Scheffler turns to fill-in when caddie Ted Scott leaves for family emergency
Scheffler began the final round two shots out of the lead.
Brad Payne, a chaplain to several PGA Tour players as president of the College Golf Fellowship, is a close friend of the world's No. 1 player and has been in this spot before.
Scheffler turned to him as a fill-in caddie for the third round of the 2024 PGA Championship at Valhalla because Scott's daughter was graduating. That turned out to be the day after Scheffler was arrested for not following police instructions during a traffic fatality investigation.
Scheffler fell out of contention with a 73 that day, which he later attributed to adrenaline wearing him from one of the more bizarre episodes at a major — the Masters champion was arrested, booked into jail, released and made it back to Valhalla in time for his tee time and then shot 66. The charges were later dismissed.
The PGA Tour did not disclose what led Scott to leave Memphis for Louisiana after the third round.

Videos circulated online by the prisoners showed the guards blindfolded with their hands bound. In one, a prisoner read a statement saying the gangs wanted their leaders returned to the prisons where they were previously housed, something Guatemala's interior minister had earlier ruled out.

Thomas Müller jokes he's missing Manuel Neuer as Vancouver adventure begins
MUNICH (AP) — Thomas Müller has a lot to adapt to with the Vancouver Whitecaps after 25 years at Bayern Munich. First up, flying without an old friend. Aboard the plane taking him to Canada and Major League Soccer, Müller joked it was the first time in 15 years he'd flown without Manuel Neuer, the goalkeeper who's been his longtime teammate for Bayern and the German national team. 'I'm on my flight to Vancouver. I'm looking for the GOAT. Can you help me? I cannot find him anywhere,' Müller said in a video on Instagram. 'It's my first flight without Manuel Neuer since maybe 15 years, I don't know. I'm very excited to come to Vancouver to play for the Whitecaps. Fingers crossed for my first games. See you there.' The 35-year-old forward admitted to feeling 'a little bit nervous' in comments to German broadcaster Sky Sport. 'It's the first time in a very long time that I'm joining a new team.'
