Neighbors say City of Atlanta needs to pave ‘extremely dangerous' gravel road
The City of Atlanta has been paying thousands of dollars monthly to re-gravel a road that neighbors say should have been paved more than a decade ago.
Channel 2′s Tyisha Fernandes was on Ewing Street on Friday, which city officials say isn't on the list to get paved despite how rough it is.
'I've torn up my car. MARTA Mobility, they can't come in and out,' neighbor Micah Beverly said.
Neighbors say they have spent the last 15 years dealing with the gravel road.

Beverly says when she moved in four years ago, city officials assured her that they would pave the road.
'Now it's become a huge issue for kids. This is the bus stop at the very top of the hill where students can't even walk or stand. Elderly can't get out of their home. It's just extremely dangerous at this point,' Beverly said.
She says every time it rains, a huge puddle forms right in front of her home.
'I can't even walk out of my home because I have a puddle of water that sits right in front of my mailbox. We don't have drainage,' she said. 'The city throws it off on watershed, watershed throws it off on someone else, and it never gets done.'

Councilwoman Marci Overstreet, who represents that section of the city, says Atlanta Department of Transportation keeps telling the neighbors they will pave the road, but instead keep laying down more gravel.
'When I say regularly, I mean like monthly, and there's a charge to it,' Overstreet said.
The Dept. of Transportation says there is no money allocated to pave the street. They added that 'a stormwater engineering study would need to be completed for accurate scoping and cost estimates.'
'We pay taxes like everyone else, I would like for the city to take responsibility, give us basic infrastructure,' Beverly said.

The owner of a German Shepherd is facing charges after investigators said the dog attacked a Pomeranian, nearly killing it. Investigators told Channel 2 Cobb County Bureau Chief Michele that if the attack hadn't happened right outside of the veterinary hospital, the Pomeranian likely would have died. The attack happened outside a veterinary hospital on Austell Road and is one of the most disturbing cases for Cobb County Animal Services. 'Looking at the pictures … they are that horrific. 'Had they not been right at the vet's office, the dog likely would have died. They were able to stabilize it and get it over to an emergency vet,' Hammond said. Valeria Vasquez owns the German Shepherd. According to the warrant, she ran off with her dog after the attack. She is now charged with reckless conduct. Newell stopped by her house on Wednesday, but no one answered the door. 'If you try to get into the middle of a dog attack, animal-to-animal attack, and you're trying to separate those two animals, you're very likely to be injured. That's where the reckless charge comes in. In this particular case, because the dog did not die, thank goodness, we are not able to classify the German shepherd as a dangerous dog,' Hammond said. The German shepherd was impounded by animal control following the attack last month and is likely back with the owner. This is the second time a dog has attacked the Pomeranian in recent months. He is out of the hospital, doing much better.

Men told woman her PayPal account was hacked, needed $55K for ‘secured account'
Two men were arrested after trying to swindle a Newnan woman out of thousands of dollars. [DOWNLOAD: Free WSB-TV News app for alerts as news breaks] In April, a woman came to the Newnan Police Department to report a possible fraud incident. The woman told officers she received a text message from someone she believed to be PayPal. The message stated that someone hacked into her account and tried to transfer $49,500 from her account. The victim said she called the number that texted her, and 'PayPal' transferred her to their fraud department. The woman then made contact with a man named 'John.' John told her she needed to create a secure account that was 'essentially unhackable.' John then told her to go to the bank and withdraw $25,000. According to officials, the bank did put a hold on her money but released it after three days. The victim then met with the person she believed to be John and gave him the cash. She told police she was able to see what vehicle the man got into and said John tried to contact her again the following day to give him another $30,000. Newnan investigators told the woman not to withdraw any more money from her bank account and to stop communicating with John. Yu was charged with purchase/possession and criminal attempt to commit a felony. Channel 2 Action News is working to learn Bandari's list of charges.

Police search for shooter who injured 2 at crowded park during graduation
Police say surveillance cameras captured an incident where two people were shot near a Forest Park soccer field where kids were about to practice. Investigators hope those at Kiwanis Park cameras will lead them to the gunmen. It's amazing more people didn't get hurt, with a soccer practice and a Tee-ball game going on nearby, as well as a graduation at Kiwanis Stadium. Channel 2's Tom Jones was at the park Wednesday as officers came back out to the scene where two people were shot near this soccer field. Parent Juan Pargo told Channel 2 a day earlier he had just dropped his kids off at soccer practice. 'I hear about six or seven shots going,' he said. The gunfire sent everyone scrambling for cover, including Pargo. 'Of course I ducked down inside my truck,' he said. Police say a 40-year-old man and a victim 18 years old were hit but survived. The 2 shooters got away. Councilwoman Latresa Akins-Wells came right after the shooting. 'For this to happen in our community is very unfortunate,' she said. Police say they don't know what sparked the shooting. But officers say this city surveillance camera captured what happened. 'So if you got away last night, you won't get away for long,' Akins-Wells said. One of the victims was grazed by a bullet, the other shot in the arm. Police are asking anyone with information about this shooting to contact them. Wells also wants those bent on causing mayhem in Forest Park to know police will hunt you down. 'If you want to commit a crime, go elsewhere,' she said.
