Steer's 2-run triple in 8th helps Reds beat Dodgers 5-2 after Ohtani's outing cut short
Ohtani left the mound accompanied by a trainer during the fourth inning with no outs and a 2-0 count against Spencer Steer. The Dodgers' two-way superstar threw six straight balls, including two consecutive wild pitches.
Ohtani was making his seventh mound start in his comeback from Tommy John surgery on his right elbow, which occurred after the 2023 season. The Dodgers' plan for Wednesday was for Ohtani to throw four innings. He threw 51 pitches, including 32 for strikes.
After Austin Hays and Tyler Stephenson walked in the eighth against Emmet Sheehan (0-3), Steer drove a ball to deep center on the 11th pitch of his at-bat. James Outman, who had just entered to play center field, nearly made a leaping catch at the wall, but the ball popped out of his glove, and Hays and Stephenson scored.
Will Benson singled to drive in Steer, his second RBI of the night.
Scott Barlow (4-0) got the final two outs in the eighth and Tony Santillan worked the ninth for his third save.
Freddie Freeman had a two-run homer for Los Angeles in the fourth inning.

Sheehan looked like he was going to get out of the inning earlier in Steer's at-bat, but left fielder Andy Pages dropped a fly ball in foul territory after trying to make a jumping catch.
Key stat
The Reds have not been swept in any of their 34 series this season. That is the longest run in club history, surpassing the 1970 NL championship team's 32-series streak. Cincinnati is the only team not to have been swept this season.

Tyreek Hill: Tua Tagovailoa's comments were needed
Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has made some pointed comments at training camp about needing to hold wide receiver Tyreek Hill accountable, and Hill says he accepts those comments. Hill said today that he's trying to hold himself accountable as well and appreciates Tagovailoa's leadership. "I think Tua's comments were needed," Hill said. "He's obviously the leader of our team so he sets the standard, so I'm just trying to be the best teammate, best version of myself I can be. Showing up to meetings, coming out here every day and busting my tail in practice, I think it's important. If you want to be able to leave a legacy, you've got to be able to consistently do those things." Hill said he knows he needs to be a good presence in the locker room and on the practice field, and not just a playmaker on game days. "I think it's very important because football is a team sport," Hill said. "It is important." Getting Tagovailoa and Hill on the same page will go a long way toward getting things moving in the right direction for the Dolphins this season.

Wrigley Field, Chicago Cubs to host MLB's 2027 All-Star Game
Wrigley Field, the home field of the Chicago Cubs, will host the 2027 All-Star Game, Major League Baseball announced Friday. The 97th edition of the Midsummer Classic will be played Tuesday, July 13, 2027. The 2026 game is set for Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia on July 14, 2026, and will be broadcast nationally by FOX. "I applaud the Ricketts family, the entire Cubs organization, the City of Chicago and the Chicago Sports Commission for presenting an impressive vision for 2027 All-Star Week," MLB commissioner Rob Manfred said in a statement. "The hard work put in to transform all of Wrigleyville into an outstanding destination deserves to be celebrated and shared on a national stage. We look forward to bringing the Midsummer Classic back to historic Wrigley Field and working alongside the Cubs, city and state officials, and the local organizing group to bring an extraordinary experience to the baseball fans of Chicago." The 2027 game will be the fourth time the Cubs host the All-Star Game and Chicago's eighth time playing host to the game. Wrigley Field was the site of the game in 1947, 1962 (the second of two All-Star Games played that year), and 1990, and it will become the third stadium in history to host the All-Star Game for a fourth time, following Cleveland's Municipal Stadium and the old Yankee Stadium in New York. The American League has won all three of the previous All-Star games over the National League played at Wrigley Field. The Junior Circuit won 2-1 in 1947, 9-4 in 1962, and 2-0 in 1990, with the NL being held to just two hits in that game. The AL leads the all-time series 48-44-3.
