Jo Whiley felt ‘tingles' when Oasis played in her studio for first time

DJ Jo Whiley has said she will "never forget" having a then-unknown Oasis on her radio show after she broadcast the band for the very first time.
Whiley and co-presenter Steve Lamacq played Columbia by Oasis on their Radio 1 Evening Session in 1993 – the first time the band was ever played on the radio.
She said she felt "tingles" when the group, fronted by brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher, then went on to play a live session in the studio.
Ahead of their reunion tour, which kicks of on Friday, Whiley reminisced about the early days of the Manchester-based band with fellow DJ Sara Cox, who was standing in for Scott Mills on his Radio 2 breakfast show.
Whiley said: "I remember our producers said (then-Oasis manager) Alan McGee has got this record. It's really good.
"He says this band are amazing, you've got to play it."

Whiley said the song was Columbia, adding: "Then they came in and did a session. It was so beautiful, you can just see the star quality.
"You could feel the charisma and the tension between the brothers.
"They did Live Forever, and it was unbelievable.
"I'm going to play that on my show tonight because we're doing this big Oasis show this evening.
"I just remember sitting there, watching them, listening to Liam singing Live Forever, and just thinking tingles, proper tingles, I'll never forget it."
Oasis, who split in 2009 after a backstage brawl between the Gallagher brothers at a festival, confirmed their long-awaited reunion in August 2024.
Cox joked about how it was down to Whiley that Oasis have reformed after she suggested to Liam when he came on her radio show in more recent years that he call Noel.
"It's basically down to you," Cox said.
Whiley said her Radio 2 show on Thursday evening will be an Oasis special, "just to get people excited about the gigs".

She asked listeners to get in touch and share their memories of the band, while she will also be playing archive clips.
"It's important because they mean so much to so many people. People have grown up with them," she added.
The long-awaited Oasis Live '25 tour kicks off in Cardiff on Friday before a run of shows in London, Manchester, Edinburgh and Dublin.

Now add Cardiff Principality Stadium 2025 to that glimmering list. Friday night's unveiling of the unforeseen Live '25 tour is right up there in the pantheon of classic Oasis shows I've been privileged to witness over the past 31 years. This is the best I've seen Oasis since 1997. I know it's a big call, but I'm making it. Let's analyse why. There is no new material to promote so this was a brazen playlist of Oasis anthems. One of the biggest worries ahead of these shows was Liam's voice. Fear not. His vocals sounded more honed than they have for many years. The outfits are the same and the swagger is still there but his engagement with the audience more courteous and respectful. Outside, it felt like the build-up to a World Cup knockout game. Lager-swilling once-lads dominated proceedings but there were also starry-eyed young men and women seduced by a Gallagher onslaught for the first time. Witnessing the feuding brothers then stepping on to the sweeping stage is something that will live long in the memory, the Cardiff roar heralding the burying of the hatchet. What a moment — and one I felt I had to witness after documenting the highs and lows of Oasis for The Sun, over 30 years. It felt like this was a climax to 16 years of soul-searching since the brothers split. And the climax of Don't Look Back In Anger, Wonderwall, and Champagne Supernova is one of the greatest closing trilogies in modern music. Kyle Walker pays tribute to Man City in heartfelt farewell message despite being made an outcast at the club - as he leaves to join Burnley in shock £5m deal
Kyle Walker has paid tribute to Manchester City after completing a £5m move to Burnley. The 35-year-old has joined the Clarets on a two-year-deal following a six-month stint at AC Milan. He will reunite with Scott Parker, having played alongside him for two years at Tottenham. Walker's move to the Turf Moor comes after he failed to be part of City's squad for the FIFA Club World Cup, alongside fellow England international Jack Grealish, and had been looking for a new club.
