Netflix's 'Assassin's Creed' Live-Action Series Gains Momentum With Multiple Veteran Writers
Netflix's live-action TV adaptation of Ubisoft's flagship game series, Assassin's Creed , has finally received its first substantial update five years after its initial announcement in 2020, with the project tapping multiple veteran writers and set for debut during the upcoming 2025-2026 TV season.
As reported by Nexus Point News, the project's writers' room will encompass a team of experienced writers and producers such as Emily St John Mandel ( Station Eleven ), Sam Reynolds ( The Walking Dead: World Beyond ), Tom Hemmings ( Halo ), Jaquén Castellanos ( Good American Family ), Claire Kiechel ( Watchmen ) and Sanaz Toossi ( A League of Their Own ). The series will be helmed by Roberto Patino ( Westworld ) and David Wiener ( Halo ), taking over the reins from Vikings: Valhalla creator Jeb Stuart, who left the project in 2023. This project isn't the first time the popular gaming franchise has seen a live-action adaptation, previously receiving a 2016 feature film of the same name by 20th Century Studios, which was directed by Justin Kurzel and starred Michael Fassbender ( X-Men: First Class, Prometheus ). Unfortunately, the movie failed to capture the essence of the beloved franchise and received poor reviews from critics and fans alike, so all eyes are on Netflix's latest attempt to see if they can create a live-action adaptation that's worthy of the Brotherhood.
Apart from the reveal of its writing team, no official plot description for the show or any news on its cast has been revealed, and with the time it took to assemble its writers' room, it also remains unclear if the Assassin's Creed Netflix series will even hit its current 2025 to 2026 release window, so fans will just have to keep the faith and wait for more information to come as the year progresses.

'Deadpool' Director Wants To Helm 'X-Men' Movie
Almost 10 years after his debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) with the critically acclaimed 2016 anti-hero blockbuster Deadpool , director Tim Miller is ready to return to the superhero feature film scene, with ambitious goals to helm the MCU's X-Men movie. 'If DC ever gets around to doing The Authority, that's my favourite comic ever — it's the Justice League if they killed people. But there are always a select few headliners for the yearly slate, and 2025 is no different, led by the highly-anticipated return of Squid Game , One Piece , Stranger Things , and Wednesday . The quartet enjoyed their fair share of the spotlight at this year's Tudum, an annual celebration of the streamer's original films and television series, joined by other projects like Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery , Frankenstein , and newly-announced reveals. Hosted by Sofia Carson ( Purple Hearts , Carry-On ), the event was held on 30 May (or 1 June, depending on timezone) in Los Angeles, making it the first iteration to be streamed on Netflix. 'Sesame Street' Rescued By Netflix After HBO Ends Partnership
Five months after Warner Bros. Discovery opted not to renew its deal for the iconic children's program Sesame Street on HBO and Max, streaming giant Netflix has stepped in to save the beloved show, signing a deal with Sesame Workshop to air new episodes on both the streaming platform and PBS. According to The Hollywood Reporter, this new deal will differ from the one made with HBO as new episodes of Sesame Street will air concurrently on Netflix, PBS and the PBS Kids app in order to make it accessible to all. Previously, episodes would only debut on PBS months after first arriving on HBO and its Max streaming service. 'This unique public-private partnership will enable Sesame Workshop to bring our research-based curriculum to young children around the world with Netflix's global reach, while ensuring children in communities across the U.S. continue to have free access on public television to the Sesame Street they love,' said Sesame Workshop CEO Sherri Westin in a statement to the media. Netflix's deal with Sesame Street will begin later this year with season 56 of the show, which is set to be a reimagining of the program's format, dropping its long-running 'magazine'-style format in favour of longer narrative-driven segments. In addition, a new animated segment called Tales From 123 will be incorporated into the episodes amidst its traditional live-action portions, with Netflix adding that the new season will be released in three batches. Netflix is also set to provide expanded access to the program for free, ensuring that the legacy of the long-running TV show remains secure for years to come.
