Patriots update on legendary players relieved of coaching duties
New England Patriots coach Mike Vrabel is reportedly establishing an open-door policy for Patriots alumni in the building.
Per ESPN's Mike Reiss, Vrabel has made it clear he wants all former Patriots players to be welcomed to the building.
Vrabel is part of that club considering he played for the Patriots organization from 2001-2008. This report comes after Matthew Slater, Troy Brown and Dont'a Hightower were relieved of their coaching staff duties.
Reiss wrote:
Former Patriots greats Matthew Slater, Dont'a Hightower and Troy Brown weren't retained on staff. Slater and Hightower initially came aboard due to their personal ties to Jerod Mayo, and it's unclear whether they still want to coach.
Nonetheless, Vrabel has told those in the organization he wants to make sure all former players are welcomed back in the building. After all, he's one of them.
Vrabel has worked hard behind the scenes to establish a new coaching staff in hopes of reigniting a winning culture in New England.
But he hasn't forgotten the importance of honoring those who paved the road for the future.

Indiana Fever Assistant Issues Statement on Stephanie White's Sudden Absence
Indiana Fever Assistant Issues Statement on Stephanie White's Sudden Absence originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Indiana Fever were dealt a significant blow ahead of their game against the Golden State Valkyries on Thursday. This came in the form of head coach Stephanie White having to leave the team to deal with a personal matter, which means that she won't be able to coach the Fever in Thursday's contest. Advertisement Stepping in for White is assistant coach Austin Kelly, who addressed the issue during his pregame press conference. Kelly, however, did not provide any details on White's situation, instead opting to focus on how the Fever are reacting to the sudden turn of events. "Steph's got some personal stuff going on," Kelly said. "... It's kinda business as usual. (I'm) just stepping in. Same message. Our team understands that." Kelly made it clear, however, that despite White's absence, the team has kept its eye on the goal. "This group's focused," he said. "We're refocused. It's our first West Coast trip of the year. We're focused on Golden State right now, and come to play, we're ready." The Fever did not reveal the nature of White's personal leave. However, this is not the first time that White has missed a game due to personal reasons. The first-year Fever shot-caller was also unable to coach her team on June 7 in their game against the Chicago Sky. Advertisement It is worth noting that White's partner, ESPN sportscaster Lisa Salters, has also already missed three games of the NBA Finals due to a "personal matter." Bills QB Josh Allen makes honest admission on Patriots QB Drake Maye
Bills QB Josh Allen makes honest admission on Patriots QB Drake Maye Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen has more than just respect for New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye. He admitted that Maye is one of his favorite young quarterbacks in the NFL. That sets the stage for an interesting rivalry with Maye and Allen facing each other twice every season. Allen is the reigning NFL MVP and the face of the league, while Maye is the promising newcomer determined to one day take the throne. "I think Drake is super talented, he's one of my favorite young quarterbacks in the league," Allen told Sports Illustrated's Liam McKeone. "I've spent some time around him and he's got his head on his shoulders the right way. He just does things the right way. I think that he exemplifies football." Maye made the Pro Bowl and teased his elite potential as a franchise quarterback for New England in his rookie season. Getting a ringing endorsement from Allen isn't something to downplay. Maye will be in a position to take things to the next level in 2025 with an improved offensive line, more weapons and a much more experienced coaching staff. The Bills are still at the top of the mountain in the AFC East, but Maye and the Patriots might finally be closing the gap. Follow Patriots Wire on Twitter and Facebook.
