Tired Of Overspending Via UPI? Sania Mirza's Sister Has A Surprisingly Simple Fix
Last Updated:
Anam Mirza, sister of tennis star Sania Mirza, shared that she has stopped using UPI apps like Google Pay to avoid overspending.
Apps like Google Pay have made payments incredibly convenient, eliminating the need to carry cash. From shopping to dining, you can pay for almost anything with just your phone, anywhere in the country. However, this convenience has a downside; many people find themselves spending more than they intended.
Recently, Anam Mirza, sister of tennis star Sania Mirza, revealed that she has stopped using UPI apps like Google Pay in an effort to curb unnecessary spending and manage her finances more mindfully.
At first, it was difficult because she would go to cafes without any cash or cards and had to ask friends to pay for her. After initial challenges, she got used to it and saw that without the app, she wasn't spending money without thinking.
Taking to her Instagram, Anam said, 'This year, I stopped using Google Pay. No UPI, no instant payment. So this year, I emptied my UPI account, deleted my UPI apps, no balance, nothing to scan. At first, it was annoying. I have walked into cafes without a card or cash. I have asked my friends to buy me coffee. Honestly, we've all forgotten what it's like to carry wallets. Over time, I adjusted and realised I wasn't spending randomly anymore."
'The physical act of paying, handing over cash or cards, made it feel like an expense. UPI made it too easy to detach. Little changes made me conscious of what, where and how much I spent. No UPI life meant more control, less guilt. Small changes, bug impacts," Anam Mirza explained.
Reacting to the post, a user wrote, 'Really a great change to have at this era of time."
Another shared, 'I totally agree with her. Absolutely correct. With UPI, you lose track of how much you spend. Even something like 10 rupees makes a lot of difference. I completely stopped and have better control and awareness of my expenses."
'Makes a big difference, been doing this for 6 months and oh boy we don't overspend now," a comment read.
An individual stated, 'Only middle-class people like us could relate, how convenient it is to have UPI. People should definitely think before doing unnecessary expenses, but deleting the UPI a/c for that is too much."
One more added, 'Absolutely correct to keep control of expenses."
While Sania Mirza has made her mark as a tennis sensation, her sister Anam Mirza has carved her own path as a successful entrepreneur. She runs her fashion brand, The Label Bazaar, and has built a strong presence in the industry. Anam was previously married to Akbar Rasheed, but the two later parted ways. She is now happily married to Mohammad Asaduddin, son of former Indian cricketer Mohammad Azharuddin. The couple has a daughter named Dua.

In contrast, 52 stocks touched 52-week lows, with notable mentions like Axita Cotton Ltd, Digitide Solutions Ltd, Vikram Kamats Hospitality Ltd, Ola Electric Mobility Ltd, Uma Exports Ltd, and V R Films & Studios Ltd. The Indian stock market concluded the day with a positive trend, showcasing investor confidence due to reduced global tensions and encouraging local factors. The BSE Sensex rose by roughly 303 points, finishing close to 84,058, while the Nifty50 increased by around 88 points to close near 25,637. This upward movement in the market was largely fueled by robust performances in sectors like Oil & Gas and PSU Banks, with the Nifty Oil & Gas index climbing over 0.5%. Vaibhav Vidwani, a Research Analyst at Bonanza, noted that the favourable conclusion was driven by expectations of possible delays in US tariff deadlines, enhanced global market confidence, and a reduction in geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, all of which increased investors' willingness to take risks. Furthermore, the Indian rupee appreciated against the dollar, trading approximately at 85.51, which also contributed to positive market sentiment.

Nifty Financial Services Index Becomes Best-Performing Sector, Surges 15.5% In H1 2025
New Delhi: The Indian financial services sector emerged as the top-performing space in the first half of 2025, as the Nifty Financial Services Index rose nearly 15.5 per cent year-to-date (YTD), according to latest data from Nifty on Friday. This strong rally outpaced other sectoral indices and reflected growing investor confidence in the sector's strength and improving economic conditions. On Friday, the index hit an all-time high of 27,305.6 during intra-day trading, marking an approximately 22.19 per cent jump from its 52-week low of 22,320.85. A 1.5 per cent rise in the Thursday session further boosted its upward momentum, supported by easing geopolitical tensions, falling crude oil prices, and a softer US Dollar Index. These factors are attracting foreign portfolio investors to Indian markets. Domestic institutional investors (DIIs) have also played a key role in supporting the rally. Investor sentiment is also being lifted by hopes of strong corporate earnings in the April-June quarter of FY26, especially in banking, insurance, and other financial services. The Nifty Financial Services Index has delivered a steady performance over the past year, gaining 15.4 per cent. In the past four months alone, it rose 3 per cent in June, 1.3 per cent in May, 6.5 per cent in April, and 9.2 per cent in March. The only weakness came at the beginning of the year, with slight declines of about 1.7 per cent in January and 0.6 per cent February. A major reason for the recent optimism is the Reserve Bank of India's final guidelines on project finance. The central bank softened its earlier draft norms, easing concerns around asset quality. According to Motilal Oswal Financial Services (MOSL), the new rules reduce the amount of money lenders need to set aside for under-construction projects. Also, the guidelines won't apply to older loans where financial closure is already complete. MOSL said that under the new rules, standard provisioning for such loans has been reduced to around 1–1.25 per cent from the earlier proposed 5 per cent. Once the projects become operational, the provisioning can go down further to as low as 0.4 per cent, depending on the type of project.
