From Learning to Lift-Off: Cultivating Egypt's Aviation Future
By Kuljit Ghata-Aura, President of Boeing Middle East, Türkiye, Africa and Central Asia
With Africa projected to need 76,000 new aviation professionals by 2043, Egypt has a unique opportunity to take the lead in this sector. Currently, the aviation industry in Egypt employs 56,100 people and generates USD 3.5 billion in economic output. Cairo International Airport is set to become a primary hub for long-haul travel, while Cairo Air Cargo City's strategic location at the crossroads of Africa, the Middle East, and Europe creates additional opportunities to enhance Egypt's logistics sector.
As Egypt modernizes its aviation infrastructure and enhances international connectivity, it is well-positioned to strengthen its role as a regional hub that not only drives economic growth but also nurtures a new generation of aviation talent.
Central to Egypt's ambitions in the aviation sector is the country's Vision 2030, which prioritizes education and training as essential components for developing a competitive and skilled workforce. This planemphasizes the importance of a robust education system, particularly in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), to foster creativity, critical thinking, and technical expertise among young Egyptians. The goal extends beyond simply preparing students for the current job market; it aims to equip them with the skills necessary to seize opportunities in the rapidly evolving global aviation industry.
Boeing shares this vision and is privileged to contribute to Egypt's talent development efforts. For nearly six decades, Boeing has partnered with Egypt, providing aircraft and services to meet its commercial and military needs. Our community engagement initiatives focus on nurturing young talent and enhancing skill development through strategic partnerships with local organizations.
Since 2007, Boeing has invested $2 million in these programs, positively impacting more than 22,000 young Egyptians and helping them unlock their potential. These efforts align with Egypt's priorities, ensuring that all students– regardless of their backgrounds– gain access to opportunities that foster both aviation-specific proficiency and essential soft skills.
Boeing's partnership with Cairo University, which began in 2016, initially focused on aeronautical engineering and has since expanded to include a wider range of STEM fields. Additionally, we have collaborated with local aviation stakeholders to prepare the next generation of pilots, maintenance engineers, and other aviation professionals with the skills necessary for Egypt's aviation and Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) servicesgrowth.
Through our partnership with Education for Employment, Boeing has helped equip young Egyptians with the employability skills needed for a seamless transition from school to meaningful careers. Additionally, we have established a STEM Center in Cairo - a collaboration with Amideast/Egypt - that has already provided hands-on learning experiences and training to almost3,000 students and teachers. Boeing is also working closely with INJAZ Egypt to deliver a course on sustainable aviation and support early-stage entrepreneurs with an interest in aerospace.
These programs are designed not only to impart technical expertise but also to foster problem-solving skills, leadership, effective communication, and a spirit of collaboration. Through these initiatives, the aviation industry is shaping a new generation of professionals empowered to drive Egypt's economic growth and enhance its global competitiveness.
As Egypt continues its journey to becoming a regional aviation hub, Boeing remains committed to expanding its workforce development initiatives to ensure the country has the homegrown capabilities necessary to support air traffic growth.

Egypt's furniture exports expected to hit $350m by year-end: Wood chamber
Alaa Nasr El-Din, Board Member of the Wood Working and Furniture Chamber at the Federation of Egyptian Industries, affirmed that Egypt's furniture industry is undergoing a significant technological transformation, driven by advanced manufacturing techniques and the growing use of artificial intelligence (AI). Nasr El-Din projected that sector exports will surpass $350m by the end of 2025, supported by strong performance in the first half of the year, which recorded $200m in exports. This figure already represents a marked improvement compared to total exports of $331m in 2024. He urged the government to intensify efforts to support the development of the furniture sector and expand its role as a vital industry employing millions of Egyptians. Strengthening the industry, he said, ultimately benefits both citizens and the national economy. Highlighting the impact of AI, Nasr El-Din explained that AI-powered tools are providing new opportunities for designers, with algorithms capable of analysing global design trends, generating creative ideas, and offering tailored suggestions to meet consumer preferences. He noted that what was once seen as imaginative has now become an integral part of the modern furniture industry, fuelling innovation and competitiveness. Nasr El-Din stressed that significant opportunities exist to boost Egyptian furniture exports to international markets—particularly the United States and Europe—by improving productivity, increasing value-added in manufacturing, and enhancing design quality to match diverse consumer tastes at home and abroad.

UK CPI rises again, inches closer to 4% - Middle East Business News and Information
By Daniela Sabin Hathorn, senior market analyst at UK inflation for July comes in higher across the board, giving the pound a mid-week boost after some downside emerged earlier this week. Both headline and core CPI come in at 3.8%, above forecasts for 3.7%, whilst the monthly readings came in at 0.1% and 0.2% respectively. Seasonal factors are likely contributing to the CPI uptick with increased travel and leisure demand putting upward pressure on prices. However, services inflation continues to be a persistent and sticky component of the UK's inflationary pressures. This sector remains a central focus, as domestic inflation has not subsided meaningfully despite weaker economic growth relative to regions like the U.S. This renewed uptick in consumer prices puts more pressure on the Bank of England. The previous meeting highlighted the difficult task of steering monetary policy in the current economic environment, with an inconclusive vote leading to a second round of voting for the first time ever. In the end, the decision leaned towards a 25bps cut, but the margin was very slim, with four members still opting to keep rates unchanged. This latest CPI reading may complicate things further, as rising inflation has been a key issue for the past few months. It is true that the GDP data came in stronger-than-expected last week, which may have eased some of the fears about stagflation, but sentiment around the UK economy remains fragile at a time when rates remain in restrictive territory, but inflation is proving hard to beat. For now, markets are pricing in just 13bps of easing from the BoE from here until the end of the year, which means not even one more 25bps cut is fully priced in right now. As a comparison, markets a pricing in two more 25bps from the Federal Reserve in the next quarter. As for the pound, the latest CPI reading provides a short-term boost as it reinforces the UK's positive carry trade against other currencies if rates are kept high. However, sentiment will depend on how the outlook for the UK economy evolves, and persistent inflation is likely to become a detriment if growth can't keep up. GBP/USD is back above 1.35 with some positive momentum coming from the release this morning, however, with the dollar regaining some ground, the pair looks like it may continue to slide in the short-term, with the 1.36 resistance level still intact. GBP/USD daily chart: Past performance is not a reliable indicator of future results.
