Female skier is dragged from her tent and mauled by a polar bear on Arctic island
The unnamed woman had been camping at Auyuittuq National Park on Baffin Island when she was attacked last month.
Other visitors sleeping in tents close by came to her assistance after hearing her screams.
One individual directly intervened and stopped the attack, according to local media, and administered first aid on the woman.
She was then transported to the Summit Lake emergency shelter in the Akshayuk Pass before being taken by snow machine to the nearby community of Pangnirtung.
The victim was released following a medical examination, but details regarding the severity of her injuries remain unclear.
The polar bear was identified as a young female with a broken jaw.
The animal's injury would have affected its ability to hunt, likely contributing to its aggressive behaviour, Explorers Web reported.
Parks Canada killed the polar bear after considering the animal a continued threat.
The animal's carcass was given to local hunters, who used its parts for clothing and food.
A similar incident in the Arctic also took place last month, after a lumbering polar bear was seen charging after a man.

Aug 6 (Reuters) - Former world number three Elina Svitolina said she was flooded with online abuse, including death threats, after her Canadian Open defeat on Tuesday and blamed the "shameful" behaviour on disgruntled bettors. The 10th seed from Ukraine crashed to a 6-2 6-2 quarter-final loss against four-times Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka at the Montreal WTA tournament and later highlighted the abuse directed at her and her family. Tennis players, like many athletes, often have to deal with the wrath of gamblers online despite the efforts of authorities to tackle the issue with measures that include the blocking of social media accounts. "To all the bettors: I'm a mom before I'm an athlete," Svitolina, 30, wrote in an Instagram story in which she attached screenshots of the messages that included death threats. Egyptian asylum seeker dies trying to jump onto ship to Canada
A failed asylum seeker from Egypt drowned after he attempted to jump onto the ramp of a ship at Southampton docks in a bid to travel to Canada, an inquest has heard. Walid Gomaa, who was denied asylum status when he arrived in the UK in 2021, had told a friend he intended to travel across the Atlantic after living illegally in the UK for four years. The 36-year-old Egyptian national was spotted by members of the crew of the 200-metre MV Tannhauser attempting to board the vehicle-transporter ship which was due to sail to Halifax, Canada. Mr Gomaa was said to be trying to reach the ramp's finger-flaps - articulated extensions at the end of the vessel - as it was being raised ahead of sailing, the Winchester inquest was told. The operator paused the raising and saw Mr Gomaa walk away, but as they started lifting up the ramp again, the asylum seeker ran and jumped towards the ramp despite a crew member shouting at him to stop. Mr Gomaa then hit his head and fell into the sea at Empress Dock at the Queen Elizabeth II Terminal, where he drowned before a rescue boat could reach him on April 28 this year, the inquest heard. Coroner Jason Pegg said: 'Mr Gomaa attempted a second time, warnings were shouted to Mr Gomaa but he continued despite the warnings. 'Mr Gomaa jumped off the jetty towards the vessel. On this occasion Mr Gomaa was not able to grab hold of anything and fell towards the water between the jetty and the vessel itself.' The inquest heard a post-mortem examination found the cause of death was drowning, which resulted from a head injury and a fall into the water. Mr Pegg said a friend contacted police after Mr Gomaa had not been in contact and said Mr Gomaa had told him he planned to travel to Canada. The coroner said that when the friend asked how he was going to get there, Mr Gomaa replied: 'Do not worry about it.'
