Diddy Just Scored a Rare Legal Win, But It's Not All Good News
On Monday, a New York judge decided to dismiss partial claims lobbed against the disgraced hip-hop mogul by Rodney 'Lil Rod' Jones back in February 2024. The bombshell sexual assault lawsuit was one of the first that came out against Diddy that triggered his eventual downfall.
In the suit, Jones made a myriad of horrendous accusations against the Bad Boy producer including, but not limited to: sexual harassment, drugging, violations of the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO) and Trafficking Victims Protection Act (TVPA).
Diddy, his company Combs Global; his son Justin Combs; his chief of staff Kristina Khorram; Universal Music Group CEO Sir Lucian Grainge; and former Motown Records CEO Ethiopia Habtemariam were all named as defendants in the suit.
Now however, per PEOPLE, it was revealed that the judge decided to dismiss Jones' claims of RICO violations against Diddy and the rest of the defendants—signaling a rare, major win for the heaviest charge of them all. The TVPA violations were also dropped against Combs Global, but Diddy and Khorram still face those charges. The judge also dismissed Jones' claims of emotional distress and breach of contract. But Diddy will still face charges of sexual assault and the 'premises liability claim' which argues that Jones was sexually assaulted multiple times on Diddy's property.
Additionally, the judge also issued a warning against Jones' lawyer Tyrone Blackburn and his 'unsettling' conduct.
'Blackburn's filings are replete with inaccurate statements of law, conclusory accusations, and inappropriate ad hominem attacks on opposing counsel,' the judge wrote.
But Blackburn remains unfazed.
'We view this as a win,' Blackburn said in a statement to USA Today on Tuesday. 'Defendants wanted a total dismissal and they failed to get it. [Combs and Khorram] 'do not want me to do discovery...I know where all of the bodies are buried and I have a HUGE shovel. Time to start digging!'

The R&B singer had previously alleged that Combs had physically abused and raped her in a 2023 lawsuit that was quickly settled. At the federal trial, Mescudi testified that Combs broke into his home and destroyed his Porsche after finding out he was dating Ventura in late 2011. A former employee also claimed that Combs threatened to kill the "Pursuit of Happiness" rapper. Mescudi said on Call Her Daddy that he was going through his own personal issues at the time, including coping with cocaine addiction. When the incident with Combs began, the "Day 'n' Nite" rapper said he was "willing to walk into the fire" for Ventura. "In the moment, it was just crazy," Mescudi said. Searchlight strikes Chord with $400m deal for ZZ Top music-owner
The owner of song catalogues produced by artists such as ZZ Top and Ellie Goulding is raising hundreds of millions of dollars in a deal with the private equity firm Searchlight Capital. Sky News has learnt that Chord Music Partners has struck an agreement for Searchlight to invest $400m in the company, which is backed by Universal Music Group (UMG), the world's leading record label. Industry sources said the deal was likely to be announced this week. Chord, which also owns the rights to songs made by Lorde, The Weeknd and John Legend, recently bought a stake in the catalogue of Morgan Wellen. The company is jointly owned by Dundee Partners, a family office, and UMG, with KKR, the private equity giant, having been a shareholder until last year. The sale of KKR's stake took place at a valuation of $1.85bn. It is the latest in a glut of deals involving prominent music rights, with a land grab for valuable entertainment content continuing to drive prices higher. Chord was formed in 2021 and is expected to announce further catalogue acquisitions in the coming months. Sir Lucian Grainge, chairman and chief executive of UMG, said at the time of its Chord stake purchase: "Finding partners who share our passion for identifying iconic songs and recordings that will stand the test of time and deliver long-term growth is essential. "We look forward to creating maximum commercial and creative value for the songwriters and artists in Chord and building for the future." UMG declined to comment, while neither Chord nor Searchlight could be reached for comment.

A Catholic priest is under investigation for allegedly starting a years-long relationship with a 17-year-old stripper — and paying her hundreds of thousands of dollars to keep quiet about it. Robert Sullivan, 61, is on leave as pastor of Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Homewood, Alabama, after he was publicly accused of initiating a relationship with Heather Jones, now 33, when she was a vulnerable teenager in 2009.
