Baisaran Reels Videographer, Who Recorded Entire Pahalgam Attack, Is NIA's Key Witness

'This local photographer ran for his life when firing began and perched himself on a tree. But he kept videographing the entire terror attack,' a senior official told News18
A local videographer, who filmed reels for tourists in Baisaran, has emerged as a key witness for the National Investigation Agency (NIA), which began its probe into the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, News18 has exclusively learnt.
Officials revealed that the local photographer captured the entire terror attack as it unfolded.
'This local photographer ran for his life when firing began and perched himself on a tree to escape the bullets. But he kept videographing the event as it unfolded and recorded the entire terror attack," a senior official told CNN-News18.
The NIA has questioned the videographer and is analysing the videos he shot to identify the terrorists and possible overground workers (OGWs) who may have assisted them.
Initial investigations have indicated that four terrorists divided into two groups and fired from two sides of the meadow. According to eyewitness accounts, two gunmen were stationed near snack shops selling refreshments.
'Around 2:30 pm, two terrorists hiding behind the shops emerged. They first asked the non-locals snacking there for their religion. A few were asked to recite the kalma; those who couldn't were killed," the officer said.
The NIA believes this was not indiscriminate firing, as initially suspected. 'They took specific aim at the head of each identified victim," agency officials said.
Panic, according to survivors, erupted when the first two terrorists fatally shot four tourists in the head. The other two terrorists then emerged from the vicinity of the zip line and began firing at the fleeing crowd.
PHONES SNATCHED
The terrorists also reportedly seized two mobile phones, one belonging to a tourist and the other to a local. Agencies are tracking both phones, as they could provide crucial evidence regarding the terrorists' current location or movements. However, sources revealed that both devices have been switched off since the incident.
The NIA has also recovered empty cartridges of AK-47 and M4 rifles. 'M4s have been used by Pakistani terrorists since the Afghan war ended, serving as further proof of who is behind this," an intelligence agency official commented.
LOCAL TERRORIST IDENTIFIED
Investigative teams believe that at least one of the four terrorists involved was a local, Adil Thokar. According to the JK police dossier, Thokar was radicalised and joined Hizbul Mujahideen in 2018. He allegedly crossed over to Pakistan on valid documents, leaving Hizbul Mujahideen to join Lashkar-e-Taiba.
After training with Lashkar, he reportedly returned to the Valley in 2024.
It is alleged that Thokar has since assisted Pakistani terrorists with logistics and even acted as a guide in other terror attacks.

Cardinal Baselios expresses trust in court after nuns get bail in Chhattisgarh

Raipur: Hours after the NIA court in Chhattisgarh granted conditional bail to two nuns arrested on charges of human trafficking and religious conversion, the president of Kerala Catholic Bishops Council, Cardinal Baselios Cleemis Catholicos, told TOI over a phone call, "With the bail granted, the first chapter of the circumstance has come to a conclusion, but we don't think the issue is closed. The judicial process now begins and we wish the nuns to be declared innocent after the legal process." Speaking as the spokesman of the Church, Baselios said, "We all believe is that they are innocent and were trying to help the young girls. The girls are mature and not minors, they can a decision for themselves. Let the court take its act of justice and we have all confidence in the court." "We believe that the accusations against nuns have to be proved, while my apprehension is that once a crowd dictates what is right and not, things in democracy and judiciary will be in trouble. Let the court alone make the sincere investigation and find the truth," he added. "The nuns are from Kerala and we are with them on different levels as we have emotional attachment with them. They are not two simple sisters, the issue is of serious concern for us. It shouldn't happen again anywhere in the country. Else, anyone could accuse anyone and put them in jail, who will prove them innocent," Cardinal Baselios said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Taylor Swift Goes Natural, Here's How She Really Looks The Noodle Box Undo Cardinal Baselios Cleemis is a former President of Catholic Bishops Conference of India twice, and is present consultant to Pope Leo XIV in the dicastery of inter-religious dialogue. Allahabad HC directs GDA to maintain status quo on demolition notice

Prayagraj(UP), Aug 2 (PTI) The Allahabad High Court has directed that status quo be maintained with regards to the demolition notices issued by Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) over alleged illegal properties built on public land. Hearing a writ petition, a division bench comprising Justice Mahesh Chandra Tripathi and Justice Prashant Kumar granted time to the district administration and GDA to place on record how they intend to rehabilitate the old inhabitants of the properties. The court also restrained the petitioners from creating any third-party interests or undertaking any development on the disputed property. The court also observed, 'In the facts and circumstances of the case, we also find that it is not in dispute that the petitioners have been occupying the place for the last 40-50 years." 'At this stage, we find that some indulgence and reprieve is to be accorded to the inhabitants who belong to the weaker sections of society and we further direct the authorities to ensure the formulation and implementation of a rehabilitation scheme for such persons," it said. The bench said the rehabilitation scheme shall be provided by the district administration and the GDA in the next hearing. The next hearing is listed for August 22. The petitioners filed the present writ petition for quashing the demolition notice dated June 16, 2025, issued by the GDA under section 26-A of the UP Urban Planning and Development Act, 1973. The GDA initially issued notice to 172 illegal occupants of public land on September 6, 2024, which is earmarked in the master plan. Consequently, 89 persons filed their objections which were considered and the impugned order (order under challenge) was passed. During the course of hearing, the counsel for the petitioner submitted that the petitioners are old inhabitants and in absence of any rehabilitation scheme as per the law, the old inhabitants, who are occupying small pieces of land for their shelter and admittedly belong to the lower sections of society, will suffer irreparable loss, if uprooted. After hearing both sides, the court in its order dated July 31 passed the above directives and observed, 'It is informed that in response to the earlier court's order, till date the GDA has not taken any remedial measures to rehabilitate the persons who were in illegal occupation for the last 40 years." Shop owner shot at by former tenant in southeast Delhi

Agency: New Delhi, Aug 2 (PTI) A shop owner was shot at by a group of men in southeast Delhi's Nizamuddin area, police said on Saturday, adding that they have made two arrests in the case. After being hit with bullets on Friday, he was immediately rushed to AIIMS Trauma Centre, where he is undergoing treatment, an officer said. A former tenant allegedly opened fire outside Qibla Perfumes, which is run by Furkan (32), and his two brothers, Waseem (33) and Abdul Khalid (30), police said. According to officials, the victim and his brothers had recently asked Ehsaan to vacate a shop he had rented. He complied about 15 days ago, and the firing is suspected to be related to that dispute. A PCR call regarding the firing was received at the Nizamuddin police station at 10.08 pm on Friday. Preliminary inquiry revealed that around 10 pm, their former tenant, Ehsaan, arrived at the shop along with a few associates and began a quarrel with Waseem, police said. During the altercation, one of the accused pulled out a firearm and fired three rounds. Furkan suffered an injury to his leg during the incident. 'A case was registered under sections 109(1) (attempt to murder) and 3(5) (joint liability) of the BNS and relevant sections of the Arms Act on August 2 has been registered and investigation has been taken up," Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast) Hemant Tiwari said. He added that two accused have been apprehended and one of these two has fired upon the victim as confirmed by the CCTV footage. 'None of these two have any previous involvement. Few other accused are still at large. Efforts are underway to apprehend them," the officer said. An inspection of the crime scene led to the recovery of three empty cartridges and two live rounds, police said.
