Led by a brilliant captain's knock from Muhammad Waseem, responded with a historic two-wicket win in the second T20I, successfully chasing down a formidable target of 206 runs – their first-ever T20I victory against Bangladesh and the highest successful run chase by an Associate nation against a Full Member.
UAE skipper Muhammad Waseem led the Emirati effort during a stiff chase with a blazing 82 off 42, and was ecstatic at the outcome.
'I have no words. I am very happy we beat Bangladesh. Very happy with the performance. I was giving hope to everyone that we can chase this score because we know the conditions (in Sharjah)," Waseem said after the game.
'We were hoping to chase it, and I tried to play my natural game," Waseem described his batting effort during UAE's first successful chase over 200 runs in T20Is.
The losing captain, Litton Das believed the side were let down by their effort in the middle overs of the chase.
'Any loss is hard, but we still batted well on this wicket. Wicket was pretty good, when they batted, they had the favour of dew. We missed a bit in the fielding and the middle-overs bowling," he said.
UAE and Bangladesh will put everyinthing on the line in the third T20I in Sharjah on May 21.

Asia Cup 2025: Five big names who missed India's flight to UAE

The announcement of India's Asia Cup 2025 squad brought elation for some and heartbreak for others. While fresh faces and in-form stars sealed their places, a few high-profile names — despite strong credentials — found themselves sidelined. Here are the five big omissions that have sparked debate: Shreyas Iyer: Runs, leadership, but no ticket Shreyas Iyer's absence is perhaps the most talked-about. Having last played a T20I in 2023 against Australia, his recent IPL heroics were expected to open the door for a comeback. Iyer piled up 604 runs at an average of 50.33 and a strike rate of 175, even guiding his franchise to the final. Yet, the selectors looked elsewhere, leaving one of India's most prolific run-getters on the bench. Shreyas Iyer batting career record Test 14 24 811 1287 105 36.86 63.02 2 94 16 5 1 ODI 70 65 2845 2845 128 48.22 100 6 262 72 22 5 T20 51 47 1104 811 74 30.67 136.13 11 90 44 8 0 IPL 132 132 3731 2798 97 34.23 133.35 23 314 152 27 0 Yashasvi Jaiswal: From World Cup reserve to Asia Cup reject The omission of Yashasvi Jaiswal raised eyebrows, too. The young left-hander was part of India's T20 World Cup-winning squad in 2024 as a reserve opener, but failed to find a place this time. He ended IPL 2025 as Rajasthan Royals' highest scorer with 559 runs at 43.00 and a strike rate of 159.71, numbers that seemed enough to warrant inclusion. Still, his name was missing when the final 15 were revealed. However, he is among the five players named as standbys for the continental tournament. All-rounder Washington Sundar's exclusion came as a shock. With his ability to control games with the ball and contribute handy runs, Sundar was seen as a natural fit in the UAE conditions. His recent showing in the Test series against England only underlined his growing maturity, but the selectors chose to go in a different direction. The pacer was in outstanding form during IPL 2025, finishing as the Purple Cap holder with 25 wickets from 15 matches. He also featured in the Test series against England, proving his versatility across formats. Still, despite being one of the most lethal new-ball bowlers this season, he finds no mention in India's Asia Cup squad. The pacer played a decisive role in India's series win against England, producing match-winning spells in the final Test. In IPL 2025, he added 16 wickets to his tally, further solidifying his reputation as a strike bowler. Yet, when the squad list was unveiled, Siraj's name was conspicuously absent. Iyer's run-machine form, Jaiswal's attacking flair, Sundar's all-round value, Krishna's wicket-taking consistency, and Siraj's Test-match heroics would walk into most teams. But India's selectors opted for balance, versatility, and present team combinations over reputations.

Asia Cup 2025: Why is Rishabh Pant missing from India's squad?

Rishabh Pant of India (Photo by) India will head into the Asia Cup 2025 without Rishabh Pant, who has been sidelined with a fractured foot. The wicketkeeper-batsman picked up the injury on the opening day of the fourth Test against England and was forced to return home, missing the fifth Test as well. Pant is now confirmed to miss both the Asia Cup and the upcoming home Test series against West Indies. Even before his injury, Pant was not in India's immediate T20 plans. Sanju Samson has been the first-choice wicketkeeper in the format, with Pant last featuring in a T20 international against Sri Lanka in July 2024 at Pallekele. His absence has only further cemented Samson's role behind the stumps, while Jitesh Sharma has been drafted in as the second wicketkeeping option. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. He endured a forgettable IPL 2025 campaign, scoring just 269 runs at an average of 24.45 and a strike rate of 133.17. The numbers were heavily boosted by a last-match century against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, with the rest of the season yielding very little for his franchise Lucknow Super Giants. Poll Who should be India's first-choice wicketkeeper in T20s? Sanju Samson Jitesh Sharma In the Asia Cup squad, Samson and Jitesh provide contrasting options. While Samson has consistently opened with Abhishek Sharma for India, the return of vice-captain Shubman Gill could push him down the order. If that happens, Jitesh's power-hitting skills in the middle and lower order could come into play. The final call on who takes the gloves will depend on how the management plans its batting combinations. Catch Rani Rampal's inspiring story on Game On, Episode 4. Watch Here!

Meghalaya partners Olympian Abhinav Bindra to promote value-based education

Shillong, Aug 19 (PTI) The Meghalaya government on Tuesday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Abhinav Bindra Foundation to implement the Olympic Values Education Programme (OVEP) in schools across the state. The MoU was signed between the department of education, department of sports and youth affairs and the foundation in the presence of Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma and Olympic gold medallist Abhinav Bindra here. Sangma, speaking at the event, said the initiative aligned with the government's youth-first policies. 'Sports is not just an activity, it shapes us, instills discipline, hard work and responsibility, and builds values that last a lifetime. The Olympic Values Education Programme complements our vision of investing in the youth and ensuring they grow into responsible and productive citizens," he said. He assured full government support for OVEP's rollout and stressed that with more than 50 per cent of Meghalaya's population below 20 years, the programme was a long-term investment. Bindra, in his address, highlighted the transformative power of value-based education. Developed by the International Olympic Committee, OVEP leverages the appeal of sport and Olympic ideals to promote life skills, character building and holistic education. Thousands of school students in Meghalaya are expected to benefit from the programme. Following the MoU, a presentation was made by Abhinav Futuristics Pvt Ltd on setting up a world-class high performance sports science and injury centre in the state, which will provide advanced training, rehabilitation and sports science facilities to help athletes compete at national and international levels. The MoU, officials said, marks a milestone in Meghalaya's mission to become a hub of educational excellence and sporting achievement.
