‘The Pitt' director Amanda Marsalis faced ‘a wall of death and destruction' in Emmy-nominated episode
The medical drama for HBO Max stars Noah Wyle as Dr. Michael "Robby" Robinavitch. Each of the episodes chronicles a subsequent real-time hour of a shift in the emergency room at Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center. Marsalis compares the role of director to being an ER doctor, adding, 'I'm not saving anyone's lives to be very clear, but it is a lot like an orchestra. You are leading and you need to be aware of all pieces at all times. I mean, I do feel very close to Noah, you know, as the leader of our world there."

'Hamilton' to screen in theaters next month for 10th anniversary
TV Directors roundtable: 'Adolescence,' 'Last Week Tonight with John Oliver,' 'The Pitt,' 'Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story'
This year The Pitt received 13 Emmy nominations. Marsalis received one of these for Best Drama Directing. It was for her work on the "6:00 P.M" episode where the ER has to deal with a slew of patients after a nearby mass shooting. The director describes it as 'like a wall of death and destruction coming at you.' She also says, 'The biggest challenge was making sure that the emotion of what was happening stayed in the episode. Because a lot happens. There's a lot of gore and medical technical work that has to be in there. But it's really important that we care. That was the balance of telling the technical story and also what it felt like.'
On telling a story in a hospital, Marsalis reflects, 'People don't know how to deal with things. So, there is a wonderful messiness to the humanity in The Pitt. There's something about a bunch of people just trying to do good work. It's watching life struggles of people who have decided to spend their lives in service of other people. I think it's a really special show. And it's not like a medical drama is necessarily something I thought that I would find this much meaning in, but I do.'

HBO Max is setting a trap for password sharers
Anyone borrowing a password for HBO Max should start binge-watching now. Warner Bros. Discovery, the media company behind HBO Max and its many rebrands, just warned its streaming subscribers that its password-sharing crackdown is about to get serious. Compared to Netflix and Disney, WBD has been lenient on its streaming password stealers. The HBO Max parent had been gently nudging its password sharers to add another account for $8 a month or get their own subscription, but it was more of a suggestion than a mandate. That was "the first inning" of its account-sharing clampdown, WBD streaming head JB Perrette said on its second-quarter earnings call on Thursday. But the next inning is fast approaching. Starting in September, HBO Max moochers will "actually start to see some messaging" telling them to pay up or else, Perrette said. Put simply, the days of being Mr. Nice Guy are over. WBD has spent much of the last several months testing to figure out who's a "legitimate user" of the streaming service, Perrette said. HBO Max's testing happened so that when they decide to "turn on the more aggressive languaging around what needs to happen, we're actually putting the net in the right place, so to speak," Perrette said. Translation: HBO Max is springing a trap for password moochers. WBD had 125.7 million streaming subscribers as of the second quarter, up 3.4 million from early 2025. However, most of that growth came from overseas, where HBO Max is still rolling out in new countries. In the US, the HBO-centric streamer only added about 200,000 customers. But HBO Max will start to reap the benefits of this crackdown in the fourth quarter and in 2026 as their password messaging continues "in a much more aggressive fashion," Perrette said. So anyone hoping to catch up on "The Last of Us" or stream "The Yogurt Shop Murders" without paying may want to start now.

‘Hamilton' turns 10: Lin-Manuel Miranda announces movie theater release to celebrate the Broadway musical's anniversary
The film version of the hit show will debut in theaters on Sept. 5. Rise up, Hamilton fans: The Pulitzer Prize- and Tony Award-winning Broadway musical is coming to a movie theater near you. On Tuesday's episode of The Tonight Show, Lin-Manuel Miranda announced that the feature film version of his hit musical Hamilton will make its theatrical debut on Sept. 5 in celebration of its 10th anniversary. Hamilton premiered on Broadway a decade ago today, on Aug. 6, 2015. 'I have an announcement!' Miranda, who created and originally starred in the musical, said. 'So, tomorrow is the 10-year anniversary of Hamilton, and we've been celebrating all year. But we have one more way to celebrate. We filmed most of the original cast performing in Hamilton in 2016, and we always wanted to release it theatrically, but then the pandemic hit, and so we decided to release it on streaming so that everyone could see it at home whenever they wanted. But, Sept. 5, you will be able to see Hamilton in movie theaters nationwide and in Puerto Rico.' The film will be released in theaters in the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico on Sept. 5, in the U.K. and Ireland on Sept. 26, and in Australia and New Zealand on Nov. 13, per Variety. A special screening of Hamilton, organized by the Public Theater, will take place on Sept. 3 at the Delacorte Theater in New York City's Central Park. A limited number of advance tickets will be available for purchase, followed by a free ticket lottery and free standby line the night of the event. Hamilton premiered on Disney+ in July 2020. The movie functioned as a live recording of the actual Broadway production, filmed at the Richard Rodgers Theatre on Broadway in June 2016, with much of the original cast performing. Among the original cast members included in the film In addition to Miranda are Daveed Diggs, Renée Elise Goldsberry, Jasmine Cephas Jones, Leslie Odom Jr. and Phillipa Soo. The month that it premiered on Disney+, Hamilton had the largest audience of any streaming program in 2020, Forbes reported. Celebrations for the Broadway musical's 10th anniversary — referred to affectionately as 'Hamilten' — are well underway. Tonight, at 7 p.m., an invitation-only anniversary performance of Hamilton will take place at the Richard Rodgers Theatre and will serve as a fundraiser for the Immigrants: We Get the Job Done Coalition. A fan-focused matinee took place at 1 p.m. today. Tickets were priced at $10 apiece and were distributed through a lottery. Former cast members have also used social media to commemorate the milestone. Broadway star Javier Muñoz, who took over for Miranda as Alexander Hamilton in July 2016, shared a lengthy tribute to the Hamilton creator on Instagram on Wednesday afternoon. Muñoz concluded his Hamilton run in January 2018. 'It all comes down to one relationship, one colleague, one friend; Lin Manuel Miranda. My place in this journey was singular. It was exactly where I was meant to be,' Muñoz wrote. 'The list of blessings in the form of friends, chosen family, opportunities, evolution, falling in and out of love, social change, overcoming, and becoming, is too long to spotlight each. None of it IS without Lin Manuel. I'd say yes and jump off any cliffs with you, my friend. Thank you.' Soo, who received a 2016 Tony Award nomination for Best Actress in Musical for her portrayal of Eliza Schuyler Hamilton, also shared a series of photos on Instagram. 'What a ride. 10 years. Eternally grateful. Love you all, thanks for the love. ❤️ @hamiltonmusical #hamilten,' the Doctor Odyssey actress wrote. Jones, who originated the role of Peggy Schuyler, posted several photos as well. 'Look at where you are… Look at where you started…. TEN YEARS AGO WE OPENED ON BROADWAY. Forever grateful. This show changed my life and gave me a forever family. ❤️,' she wrote. The original Broadway cast of Hamilton reunited earlier this year at the 2025 Tony Awards, where they performed a medley of tracks in honor of the show's 10th anniversary. With Miranda helming the ship, the cast serenaded audience with performances of hit songs including 'My Shot,' 'Non-Stop,' 'The Room Where It Happens,' and 'The Schuyler Sisters.' HBO's Best New Show Has A Perfect 100% Rotten Tomatoes Score
Well, Max is now back to being called HBO Max, after switching from that name years ago. So, here we are, talking about the best new show on HBO Max. Until they change it again back to just HBO, which I have to believe is coming. The show in question is The Yogurt Shop Murders, a docuseries that has landed a rare perfect 100% Rotten Tomatoes score from critics, which is not really something you see all that much in the genre. The Yogurt Shop Murders is based on a true story of a horrific crime back in 1991, one that many people may not have heard of. Here's what happened. A content warning follows: There ended up being a fire in the shop, and police discovered the victims (again, content warning for a violent crime), naked, tied up, burned, shot in the head with at least one of them having been raped. Evidence pointed toward a hardened criminal, but despite DNA evidence, they were never able to be identified, and the case remains unsolved. I am frankly surprised I've never heard of this, as it seems just absolutely horrible. Granted, I was four back when this happened. The documentary was not dropped a binge watch, and the four episodes will be out over the course of the next months. But critics who have seen it all already believe it's an effective covering of the crime. Here are some quotes: There have been some comparisons in reviews to Netflix's famed Making a Murderer series. But there is no pointing toward a specific induvial here, and the goal is not to solve the crime, but rather show its after-effects. Its interesting that this is directed by an almost exclusively film director, Margaret Brown, who has done such gripping projects like Descendant in the past, and a True Crime series is wildly different. But she's made one very much worth watching, if you can stomach the tale. Follow me on Twitter, YouTube, and Instagram. Pick up my sci-fi novels the Herokiller series and The Earthborn Trilogy.
