Amid the sensational twists and turns in the Meghalaya honeymoon murder case, another incident has come to light from Maharashtra's Sangli, where a woman, 27, killed her husband, 54, with an axe on Vat Purnima -- a sacred occasion for housewives in the state, akin to Karva Chauth.Bearing eerie similarities to the Meghalaya honeymoon case, the murder took place barely three weeks after their marriage. An occasion meant for wives to pray for their husbands' long lives turned into a night of horror as the woman struck her husband on the head, killing him on the spot.advertisementThe victim, identified as Anil Tanaji Lokhande, was murdered on the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday, between 11:30 pm and 12:30 am, by his wife, Radhika Balkrishna Ingle, according to police officials. She allegedly struck his head and hands with an axe, police officials further revealed.
Anil lost his first wife to cancer. He is survived by two daughters, who are both married and settled outside. As he was lonely and suffering from ailments, his relative got him re-married to Radhika, who hailed from Wadi village in Satara district. The wedding took place on May 17.The woman has been taken into custody. The exact motive for the murder remains unknown at this point. In a similar incident, Sonam Raghuvanshi on Wednesday confessed to plotting the murder of her husband along with her reported lover Raj Kushwaha's help, exactly a month after their wedding on May 11.According to sources, she broke down in front of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) when she was presented with the evidence gathered against her. With inputs from Prabodhini Shivajirao ChikhalikarMust Watch

Dharmasthala's Veerendra Heggade rejects allegations, supports SIT probe into Soujanya case: Report

Veerendra Heggade, the Dharmadhikari of the Dharmasthala Manjunatha Swamy Temple, has firmly denied recent allegations linking the temple and its trust to the 2012 rape and murder of 17-year-old Soujanya, as well as to broader claims of multiple crimes allegedly covered up over the past two decades. He has welcomed the state government's decision to form a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to get to the bottom of the issue. Veerendra Heggade said he welcomes the formation of a Special Investigation Team to uncover the truth behind ongoing allegations against the temple. (ANI Photo)(Arunkumar Rao) READ | 'No hidden charges, only meter fare': Tejasvi Surya lauds new auto app in Bengaluru Heggade described the accusations as deeply distressing and 'completely unfounded' in an interview with PTI. He said the portrayal of Dharmasthala in social media has been misleading and unfair. 'We welcomed the SIT the same day. It's good that the state has formed it and once and for all the truth should come out. It's not good that allegations are made and they remain that way,' he said. He expressed concern about what he called a 14-year-long smear campaign aimed at tarnishing the image of Dharmasthala and its charitable institutions. Heggade alleged that some groups, upset with the positive work done by the temple trust, were behind the misinformation. READ | Bengaluru's Ejipura flyover work halted after concrete slab cracks and falls on auto The recent appearance of a masked individual in online videos, claiming to have buried bodies in Dharmasthala, was dismissed by Heggade as implausible and sensational. He pointed out that deaths in the area are always recorded by local authorities and carried out with proper procedure. Heggade also criticized the influence of social media, suggesting it is being used to turn young minds against faith. Addressing persistent rumours involving his family, Heggade clarified that when the Soujanya incident occurred, they immediately informed the authorities and cooperated fully with earlier investigations, including by the CBI. Allegations that family members were involved, he said, are baseless - some of the accused relatives weren't even in the country at the time, and documents have been submitted to prove it. READ | Chilly and rainy August in Bengaluru leaves residents savouring the cosy weather Regarding claims of property misuse, Heggade stressed that all assets belong to the trust, not to individuals. 'Our family owns very little personally. Everything is transparently managed by the trust, and there is documentation for all acquisitions,' he added. He further explained the distribution of responsibilities within the family: one brother oversees educational institutions in Bengaluru, another manages temple affairs and social work, and a third is involved in university administration. The institutions, he said, are all officially registered under the trust's name. When asked about a Jain family managing a Hindu temple, Heggade dismissed the controversy, pointing out that several temples in India are maintained by Jains and follow proper rituals. He also denied that the controversy had become politicized. "Congress leaders have also come here and so do the JDS leaders. Some people want to defame the temple and all parties have come in support of the temple," Heggade said, welcoming Deputy CM DK Shivakumar's remarks suggesting there could be a conspiracy at play. Heggade also appreciated Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's neutral stance that any wrongdoing would be investigated and the guilty punished. Despite the storm, Heggade maintained that faith in Dharmasthala remains strong and that public turnout has not declined. 'We carry out the puja, rituals as usual and there is no change in the crowd or customs,' he stated. Concluding on a firm note, Heggade said he believes the truth will prevail and the smear campaign will collapse under its own falsehoods. has not independently verified the authenticity of this information. Karnataka government suspends exhumation activities in Dharmasthala burial case

The Karnataka government on Monday informed the state assembly that the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the alleged mass burials in Dharmasthala has decided to temporarily suspend excavation and exhumation work until forensic analysis is complete. Karnataka government suspends exhumation activities in Dharmasthala burial case State home minister G Parameshwara, who provided an update on the case, said soil and skeletal samples had been sent to laboratories and the probe would resume only after expert reports are received. 'The SIT has decided to stop this till reports come,' Parameshwara said in the assembly, stressing that the suspension is only temporary. He added that the course of investigation could change depending on the outcome of forensic analysis. 'If chemical analysis indicates traces of human DNA, the investigation would follow a different course. The SIT has been allowed to decide. It is not the government's call,' he said. Parameshwara explained that, so far, skeletal remains had been retrieved at two different locations. 'At one location, a skeleton was found and at another, a few bones were discovered. These samples have been sent to the forensic science laboratory (FSL) for analysis. Until the report is received, the excavation work has been halted,' he told legislators. According to the minister, the investigative process has been limited to exhumation and sample collection. 'The actual investigation, including DNA profiling and further forensic tests, is still pending. Even the skull fragment produced earlier by the complainant has to undergo analysis, and we are awaiting that report,' Parameshwara said. He added that soil samples were also collected from different sites to test the impact of red stones on bone decomposition. 'The soil samples have been sent for laboratory testing. Only after the analysis is complete will the real investigation begin,' he said. The home minister also elaborated on allegations made in the complaint, which claimed forced burials and threats to the whistleblower. 'A person went to the Dharmasthala police station and filed a complaint, stating that he had received life threats and was forced to bury the bodies. He said he filed the complaint out of guilt,' Parameshwara told the House. He added that the complainant alleged that 'many people, including men and women who were sexually assaulted, were buried'. Questions were raised by the Opposition about why the complainant himself had not been arrested. In response, the minister referred to central legislation. 'There is a Witness Protection Act formed by the central government. The complainant had approached the district magistrate, and as per the committee's directions, security has been provided to him and his family. Hence, he cannot be arrested,' he said. The origins of the case traced back to a sanitation worker in Dharmasthala who filed a police complaint on July 3, claiming to have buried bodies of multiple women who were allegedly raped and murdered.
