KTR slams govt for nudging women to carry potable water to paddy fields
The BRS leader alleged that the government had failed to repair two crucial pillars for 19 months. Comparing the current situation to 'IndirammaRajyam' bringing 'farming with water pots,' Rama Rao stated, 'What a misery Revanth has brought…!! While KCR ensured girls did not have to stand outside their houses holding pots for drinking water, Revanth Reddy has now created a situation where women fetch water with pots to protect their paddy fields? What are these new difficulties for our sisters who are already struggling for drinking water?'
Rama Rao further claimed that in Rangadhamunipalli, Gollapalli, Jagityala district, a transformer broke down and remained unrepaired for 15 days. He questioned the government's capacity, stating, 'You have not been able to repair two pillars at Medigadda for a year and a half. Do you not even have the capacity to repair transformers? You have already given up on providing irrigation facilities. Now there is so much trouble protecting crops with current motors? What else but wickedness is there to prevent the use of groundwater that increased during the BRS regime? We cannot bear to see crops drying up before our eyes. Can this Chief Minister not see the suffering of girls and children carrying buckets? God knows when he would make women crorepatis. When will this Chief Minister find the courage to end the suffering of these girls and children who carry pots for drinking water as well as irrigation water?'
The BRS leader also targeted the government over a student suicide. 'Another student commits suicide in a Gurukul hostel, very sad,' he remarked. 'The failure of the Congress government is the reason for the suicide of a fifth-grade student in the Jyotiba Phule hostel in Thupranpet, Choutuppal mandal, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district. Even though 90 students in Gurukuls have already died due to various reasons, the Chief Minister is not providing any relief. If the Chief Minister does not stop this death knell that is ringing in Gurukuls, the curses of the parents will surely fall on this Congress government.'

Elaborate security arrangements in place for bandh today
Bhubaneswar: Police have made elaborate security arrangements across the state, especially in the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, in view of the 12-hour Odisha bandh called by Congress and seven other organisations on Thursday, seeking a fair probe into the self-immolation of a 20-year-old student in Balasore. Speaking to media persons, police commissioner S Dev Dutta Singh said, "We will not allow any kind of violence or untoward incident during the bandh. Political parties have the liberty to protest in a democracy, but our top priority remain the safety of the public." Commissionerate police plans to deploy AI-based surveillance drone cameras to monitor the movement of the protesters. Additional arrangements are also being made to guard key govt installations such as Lok Seva Bhawan, AG office, and offices and residences of key ministers and officials. Looking at the growing tensions and the protest by BJD on Wednesday in Bhubaneswar which turned violent, police are taking extra caution, sources said. The home department has issued an advisory for govt employees to reach their offices before 9:30am positively. On the day, visitors will not be allowed at Lok Seva Bhawan while checks of ID cards of the employees will be intensified, the advisory added. All India Mahila Congress president Alka Lamba said it would be a peaceful protest, and the primary agenda is to "wake up a sleepy govt". by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Flexible Program BITS Pilani Digital Apply Now Undo "We seek justice for the girl and demand safety and security for the girls and women of the state. There is a need to instil fear in the minds of criminals who are responsible for such atrocities on women," Lamba said. Criticising the state govt, Lamba said the girl who bravely confronted her tormentors should be saluted. "She knocked on all possible doors for justice. If she received support on time, such a valuable life wouldn't have been lost. The brave girl was asked to compromise, but she didn't bow her head down and continued the fight," she said. Earlier, state Congress president Bhakta Charan Das said that as part of the bandh, all schools, colleges, universities and vehicular movements would be stopped. He said they had urged the transport unions, employees' federations, traders' unions, and people to cooperate in the protest for safeguarding democracy and ensuring women's safety.

2,000 fruit trees cut: Himachal Pradesh high court says continue to clear forest land
Shimla: The Himachal Pradesh high court on Wednesday reiterated that state govt authorities must ensure apple and other fruit trees planted on encroached forest land in the state were removed in equal terms. The division bench, comprising Justice Vivek Singh Thakur and Justice Bipin Chander Negi, was apprised by the state govt that officials of the forest and revenue departments, under the ongoing drive, had so far removed over 2,000 trees of apples and other fruits from encroached forest land mainly in three villages of Shimla district — Chaithla in Kotkhai tehsil and Sarahan village in Kumarsain tehsil. During the previous hearing on July 14, the court clarified that the order for the removal of apple trees from forest land was not limited to orchards where attempts were being made to reoccupy govt land. The court also directed the state govt on Wednesday to file a fresh status report on the next date of hearing about the strict compliance of the court orders for the removal of encroachment in a transparent manner. The status report must also mention the undue profit earned by encroachers by not only cutting down the forest trees but also utilising the land over the years by sowing crops and raising orchards so that recovery proceedings can be initiated against them. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo The court also observed loopholes in the status reports being filed in the court and the factual ground position pertaining to the encroachment over govt land. Minister Raises Concern Education minister Rohit Thakur, who is MLA from the apple-growing Jubbal-Kotkhai constituency, on Wednesday said it was a matter of serious concern and fruit-bearing trees should not have been cut during monsoon, which is when plantation drives are carried out. He added that though the eviction drive was being carried out on high court directions, he would take up the issue with chief minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, as it was not good to cut fruit trees when the crop was ready for harvest in just a few weeks. The minister added at least small farmers needed to be saved. In 2015-16, the then Congress govt took an initiative to come up with a policy to benefit farmers who owned less than five bighas of need-based encroachment by landless or small farmers, but the govt changed in 2017, said Thakur. Himachal Kisan Sabha and Himachal Seb Utpadak Sangh, led-by former MLA from Shimla and CPI(M) leader Rakesh Singha, have been urging the immediate intervention of the chief minister to stop the eviction proceedings. They have also given a call to gherao the Himachal Pradesh Secretariat in Shimla on July 29.
