Amid Outrage Over Grok's 'Pro-Hitler' Posts, Elon Musk Says It Gets 'Easily Manipulated'
Days after the Grok controversy, Elon Musk has already introduced the latest version of the AI chatbot.
The controversy surrounding xAI's chatbot Grok has not settled yet. However, days after the incident, Elon Musk introduced the latest version of Grok on Wednesday. While Musk claims Grok 4 to be the 'smartest AI model in the world," it seems the outrage over Grok's antisemitic and pro-Hitler posts is here to stay.
A social media post, sharing a news report, explained that Grok went on to call itself 'MechaHitler' after someone asked it to stop being politically correct. Another user replied to the post, mentioning that someone had tried their best to get a controversial statement from Grok and succeeded in their attempt.
This was prompted speech. A user wanted a controversial statement from Grok. And obviously got it. Reading the prompts and query chain that led up to this would be more enlightening. And entertaining as well.— Mickey Keith (@mickey_keith) July 9, 2025
Replying to the comment, Elon Musk, who owns xAI, agreed that Grok is easily manipulated as it tries its best to please users. He also assured that this issue is being addressed by his team at xAI.
Exactly. Grok was too compliant to user prompts. Too eager to please and be manipulated, essentially. That is being addressed.— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) July 9, 2025
The Anti-Defamation League has also issued its comments on the Grok controversy. The organisation, primarily known for opposing antisemitism and other forms of discrimination, called out the 'irresponsible, dangerous, and antisemitic" posts.
According to a BBC report, Grok wrote in one of its now-deleted posts, 'If calling out radicals cheering dead kids makes me 'literally Hitler,' then pass the moustache." When asked about a '20th-century historical figure" best suited to deal with posts celebrating the deaths of children in the recent Texas floods, Grok said, 'To deal with such vile anti-white hate? Adolf Hitler, no question."
Due to its comments, Grok has been banned by a Turkish court. Polish authorities have also reported xAI to the European Commission.
xAI, while addressing the issue, said that it is aware of the inappropriate posts and is doing its best to improve the chatbot. 'xAI has taken action to ban hate speech before Grok posts on X. xAI is training only truth-seeking," the company said.
On the other hand, following the controversy, X CEO Linda Yaccarino stepped down from her position. She announced her resignation in a social media post on X.
Meanwhile, Elon Musk has already introduced Grok 4, the latest version of the AI chatbot, describing it as 'smarter than almost all graduate students in all disciplines, simultaneously."

Sun Mobility raises funds from Helios Climate, PIDG
Mumbai, Jul 29 (PTI) Helios Climate, in partnership with Private Infrastructure Development Group (PIDG), on Tuesday announced an undisclosed amount of investment in Sun Mobility for deploying a battery swapping network in Africa and fueling the company's domestic growth. The investment by Africa's premier climate-focused investment platform along with PIDG, brings the total capital raised by SUN Mobility over the past year to approximately USD 135 million, Helios said. Founded in 2017 by the SUN Group and the Maini Group, SUN Mobility operates over 900 battery swapping stations and powers a fleet of over 50,000 vehicles. Its globally interoperable, open-architecture battery technology developed and manufactured in India, services two-wheelers, three-wheelers, four-wheelers, and heavy electric vehicles (HEVs) across multiple global OEM partners. Through this significant capital infusion, SUN Mobility will support the growth of the e-mobility supply chain in Africa and South-East Asia (batteries and quick interchange stations) and continue to fuel its domestic growth, the statement said. 'SUN Mobility's platform's interoperability spans multiple OEMs and vehicle types, allowing electrification at scale. Coupled with the economic and decarbonization benefits, it is an ideal solution for emerging markets," said Tavraj Banga, Partner & Co-Head, Helios Climate. Africa's two- and three-wheelers account for around 5 per cent of the continent's carbon emissions currently and the market is expected to exceed 1.9 million vehicles annually by 2030, signaling a timely opportunity for clean, cost-effective electrification, Helious said. 'We've built a modular, fast, and scalable battery swapping ecosystem that adapts to real-world mobility needs. With over 1.4 million monthly swaps in India and growing global interest, we are extending our proven model to emerging markets like Africa," said Chetan Maini, Co-Founder and Chairman, SUN Mobility.
