Bandi challenges Congress for debate on BC quota
Hyderabad: Union minister of state for home affairs Bandi Sanjay on Wednesday criticised Congress BC leaders for holding a rally in Delhi, stating that it was the BJP that made a BC leader the Prime Minister. Challenging the Congress leaders for a debate on BC reservations, he pointed out that no BC leader was ever appointed chief minister by the Congress govts. In a statement, he alleged, "There is a conspiracy to increase BC reservations by 5% and provide an additional 10% for Muslims. Did Congress ever make a BC leader the Prime Minister during its 50-year rule? Did it ever appoint a BC chief minister during its 48-year rule in united Andhra Pradesh? Shall we discuss how many BCs were given positions in the state cabinet and nominated posts?" he said. He further claimed that the Congress protest lacks support from BCs. "We will only support only if 42% reservations are implemented for BCs. We are ready for an open debate on what each party has done for BCs. Can you answer how many BCs have been given Lok Sabha seats? Are you the ones to lecture us about BCs?" he said. "Our stance is clear: religious reservations are against the Constitution. We have consistently opposed Muslim reservations. We will only support if 42% reservations are fully implemented for BCs. Otherwise, we will definitely block this bill. If such a poisonous tree is not stopped in Telangana, it risks spreading across the country," he said.
