Driver charged with DUI in fatal Jefferson Hills motorcycle crash
More than four months after the death of her dad, Christine Kelley holds him close, with his ashes by her heart on a necklace and a photo of him on her wrist on a bracelet.
"This man was everything to me, to my family," Kelley said. "They took away my dad."
It was the afternoon of March 14, when 69-year-old John Wobrak was doing what he loved to do, riding his Harley Davidson, when Jefferson Hills police said a Jeep ran into him head-on, crossing from the opposite lane of traffic on Scotia Hollow near Ridge Road.
"That was literally the worst day of my life," Kelley said. "I remember just screaming, just screaming, and my oldest son, he come downstairs, and he said, 'Please tell me this isn't true.' I said, 'It's true, buddy.'"
The man behind the Jeep, 42-year-old William Haughey Jr., is now facing several charges after police said in a warrant that he killed Wobrak while drinking and driving, and accelerating his speed, never using the brake.
"This person should be ashamed," Kelley said.
In court documents, officers describe Haughey remaining at the scene, stumbling and slurring and muffling his words, with "extremely bloodshot and glassy" eyes, and the smell of alcohol on his breath.
Through their investigation, police discovered Haughey had three vodka sodas in the span of about an hour at Beer Belly's Bar and Grill in West Elizabeth. They learned by speaking with the bartender and viewing surveillance video that only three minutes went by between the time that Haughey left the business and got into the crash.
After Haughey refused multiple times to field sobriety and breathalyzer tests, police got a warrant for a blood draw. The results showed a BAC of 0.142%.
"This person will never know the hole that's been left by what they've done, because they didn't know my dad," Haughey said.
Kelley is relieved to learn about the charges and hopes justice will be served, but she remains angry, knowing this could have been prevented.
"If this person wouldn't have been drinking and driving and acting recklessly and doing the things that they did, then my dad would still be here," Kelley said.
This isn't the first time Haughey has been caught drinking and driving. Court records show Haughey pleaded guilty to DUI twice, in 2018 and 2012. In both cases, he spent months on probation.

Two former guards at the Federal Correctional Institution in Dublin pleaded guilty to sexually abusing female inmates, the latest employees to be convicted in a scandal at the now-shuttered prison. The U.S. Attorney's Office of the Northern District of California announced Thursday that 34-year-old Jeffrey Wilson pleaded guilty to sexual abuse of a ward and for making false statements to government agency. Lawrence Gacad, 33, pleaded guilty to abusive sexual contact. "There is zero tolerance for federal correctional officers who violate their positions of trust and authority. And that is especially true where they use those positions to sexually abuse individuals in their custody," Northern California United States Attorney Craig Missakian said in a statement. Wilson was a correctional officer at FCI Dublin from July 2021 to Sep. 2022, serving as a health technician / paramedic. According to his plea agreement, Wilson began to interact with an inmate after she started taking medication for her seizures. Prosecutors said Wilson encouraged the victim to transfer from the prison to FCI Dublin Camp where fewer people would see their interactions. Wilson admitted to engaging in sexual acts on multiple occasions with the victim and providing her with a prepaid card and cellphone, which she used to send naked pictures of herself to him. According to prosecutors, Wilson falsely stated that he never had sexual contact with the victim and that he never gave her contraband. Gacad was employed at the prison between July 2021 and 2022. According to his plea agreement, Gacad admitted to kissing and groping an inmate, along with exchanging notes and emails with the victim, some of which were sexually explicit. Prosecutors said Gacad resigned after the abuse was discovered. After leaving his job at the prison, Gacad continued to exchange emails with the victim and spoke with her on video chats she had with her parents. "These guilty pleas mark yet another step toward accountability for a culture of predation that thrived for far too long behind the walls of FCI Dublin. Female inmates were exploited by those with power and access when they were most vulnerable," said FBI Special Agent in Charge Sanjay Virmani. Prosecutors said Wilson and Gacad were the 8th and 9th employees who were convicted in connection with the scandal at the prison, which was once dubbed "the rape club." Among those already convicted include former warden Ray Garcia and James Highhouse, the prison's former chaplain. Garcia is currently serving a 70-month prison sentence, while Highhouse is serving an 84-month sentence, according to prosecutors. A 10th prison employee, Darrell Smith, is scheduled to go to trial in September. Despite reform attempts, the Federal Bureau of Prisons closed FCI Dublin last year. Prosecutors said Wilson and Gacad are released on bond. Wilson is scheduled to be sentenced on Nov. 6, while Gacad is scheduled to be sentenced on Nov. 18.

Bid to increase sentence of Bhim Kohli's teenage killer to be heard next week
A bid to have the sentence of a teenage boy who killed elderly dog walker Bhim Kohli increased is due to be heard at the Court of Appeal on Wednesday. Mr Kohli, 80, was punched and kicked, slapped in the face with a shoe and racially abused in an attack in Franklin Park, Braunstone Town, near Leicester, on September 1 last year, and died the next day. The teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was convicted of manslaughter and sentenced to seven years' custody in June, when he was aged 15. The Attorney General's Office (AGO) announced in July that the Solicitor General, Lucy Rigby, had referred the sentence to the Court of Appeal under the unduly lenient sentence scheme. Court listings show that the bid to increase the sentence is due to be heard at the Court of Appeal in London on Wednesday, with the boy also seeking to appeal against his sentence at the same hearing. The boy was convicted of manslaughter, but cleared of murder, following a trial at Leicester Crown Court. He was convicted alongside a 13-year-old girl, who encouraged the attack by filming parts of it while laughing. The girl had filmed a series of video clips in which Mr Kohli was hit with the shoe by the balaclava-clad boy and another where the elderly man lay motionless on the ground. Mr Kohli's children found him lying on the ground in agony when he told his daughter that he had been called a 'P***' during the attack. The girl, who also cannot be named, was sentenced to a three-year youth rehabilitation order by Mr Justice Turner, but her sentence has not been referred to the Court of Appeal. After the sentencing, Mr Kohli's daughter, Susan Kohli, said she was 'angry and disappointed' at the sentences, stating that she believed they did not 'reflect the severity of the crime they committed'. Mid Leicestershire MP Peter Bedford and the MP for South Leicestershire, Alberto Costa, also wrote to the AGO asking for the sentences to be reviewed. A spokesperson for the AGO said last month that Ms Rigby was 'appalled by this violent, cowardly attack on an innocent man'.
