Two children die on migrant boat in Mediterranean crossing
The two children were estimated to be around three and four years old and the adult a man in his 30s. More than 50 other migrants were rescued from the same vessel on Saturday.
The rubber boat's engine had failed on the open sea, leaving those on board adrift and exposed to the elements for an extended period, the rescue workers said in a press release.
It is believed that the three victims died of thirst, exacerbated by the heat and lack of shelter, only a day before the dinghy was found. (DPA)

March covers 120 kilometres in honour of fallen German soldiers
DPA Potsdam Trekking 120 kilometres to symbolize each German soldier killed on foreign missions since 1955, around 150 soldiers and reservists from across Germany are taking part in a commemorative march this week. The four-day event began on Monday in the north-eastern state of Brandenburg and is set to end on Thursday in Berlin, the Bundeswehr's regional command in Potsdam said. Now in its eighth year, the march is the only major event of its kind in Germany. Each participant wears the name tag of a fallen soldier on their chest. In addition to the 120 kilometres, which represents the 120 Bundeswehr personnel who have died during deployments abroad, an extra 3,429 metres were added to honour those who lost their lives in other service-related circumstances. This year's march coincides with the 70th anniversary of the German Armed Forces, which were founded on November 12, 1955.'Almost everyone taking part here has a special connection to one of the missions,' said Lieutenant Colonel Detlef Schachel. 'It is very important to all of them to be here.' The route leads from the military training area in Kloster Lehnin, passes through the city of Potsdam, and ends at the Bundeswehr Memorial in Berlin.

Fuel switches cut off before Air India crash: Probe
Fuel supplies to the engines of the Air India jet that crashed last month, killing 241 people on board, were cut off apparently without either pilot having switched them off, a preliminary report into the disaster said. The Boeing 787 Dreamliner crashed shortly after take-off on June 12 in what is one of the deadliest plane accidents in terms of the number of British nationals killed. The report from the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau said the jet was carrying 54,200 kilograms of fuel, which was within the 'allowable limits.' The report said: 'The aircraft achieved the maximum recorded airspeed of 180 Knots IAS at about 08:08:42 UTC and immediately thereafter, the Engine 1 and Engine 2 fuel cutoff switches transitioned from RUN to CUTOFF position one after another with a time gap of 01 sec.'
