Prolonged roadworks in a Herefordshire town are pushing more traffic onto nearby 'rat runs', making them even more dangerous, residents claim.
Gas infrastructure firm Cadent says its work to replace mains gas cables along the A44 Bargates in Leominster will go on until August 11.
With three-way traffic lights currently impeding traffic on the main westward route in and out of the town centre, more drivers are taking the Ginhall Lane and Green Lane route to the north – despite efforts to prevent this.

'The traffic is horrendous, often queuing to the edge of town, and everyone is looking for shortcuts,' retired resident Rob Pledge said.
'There are signs up saying these roads are closed to through traffic, but everyone knows they aren't. Without enforcement, it's like the Wild West, especially during rush hour.'

Meanwhile drivers approaching along Ginhall Lane go from the national speed limit of 60 miles per hour to 30 shortly before the Green Lane junction, along a narrow stretch partly without pavements, he pointed out.
Cars can regularly be seen turning between the two streets in order to avoid Bargates altogether, though signs and the kerb layout indicate this is not allowed.

A local couple John and Joanna Kingston, regularly walk their dog on this 'nice country lane'.
'But it's got an awful lot worse,' Mrs Kingston said. 'They go far too fast.'
'There was a proposal to put in CCTV at the junction put that hasn't happened,' Mr Kingston added.
Local town councillor Allan Williams said the road works have made an existing problem 'ten times worse', with residents' emails on the subject 'filling my inbox'.

'The roadworks have to be done,' he said. 'But the roads would be less dangerous if people would just drive more sensibly.'
Police have made measurements of speeds on the affected roads at his request, he said, adding: 'A few tickets would deter people.'
A West Mercia Police road safety team spokesperson said: 'We are aware of the road safety concerns at this location and are working with our local policing team and Herefordshire Council to ensure we are doing all we can to improve road safety in this area.
'Motorists are reminded to drive at a safe, appropriate speed and adhere to road signage.'

Range Rover Electric pushed back to 2026 – delay may affect new Jaguar models

First deliveries of the Range Rover Electric have been pushed back until next year – and a report claims this could also delay the first new-era Jaguar models. Parent JLR's highly anticipated second EV, after the Jaguar I-Pace, was due to hit roads later this year with prototypes finishing late-stage testing. As recently as 15 July, the Range Rover website stated that orders would begin in late 2025, with JLR confirming the same timeframe to Autocar during our testing of the test mule earlier this month. However, the wording on the website has now changed to 2026, and a report from The Guardian claims waitlist customers – of which there are 62,000 – have been informed about the delay. This, it is thought, could also push back the launch of the electric Range Rover Velar, which was expected to arrive in the middle of next year following the full-fat Range Rover. JLR's reasoning is down to allowing more time for testing and for demand for electric vehicles to pick up – and is something which could also push back the first models in Jaguar's rebrand, the report claims. The production version of Jaguar's Type 00 concept, a £100,000 super-GT packing more than 575bhp, is pencilled to arrive next August. A large luxury saloon and an SUV were due to follow from 2027. In response to the report, a statement from JLR didn't confirm or deny the delay, but did state that it would launch its new models 'at the right time'. It read: 'By 2030 JLR will sell electric versions of all its luxury brands. Our plans and vehicle architectures are flexible so we can adapt to different market and client demands. We are committed to the highest standards of design, capability and quality, and we will launch our new models at the right time for our clients, our business and individual markets.' ]]>

Used EV expert addresses common question after putting Tesla with 225,000 miles to the test: 'Most people don't realize this'

A new test has challenged a big myth about electric vehicle performance, proving that even after 225,000 miles, a Tesla Model 3 can still hold its own in terms of efficiency. Used EV specialist Richard Symons, of the UK-based car dealership R Symons (@RSEV), tested two Tesla Model 3s, InsideEVs reported. One had 225,000 miles on its odometer, while the other had 18,000 miles. The car with fewer miles logged an efficiency of 4.55 miles per kilowatt-hour. Meanwhile, the 225,000-mile Model 3 still achieved 4.51 miles per kilowatt-hour, representing a less than 1% difference. The results provide a sharp contrast to the efficiency of gas-powered cars, as InsideEVs pointed out, "Because while most people don't realize this, internal-combustion engines get less efficient as time goes on." The test results offer another reason to consider going electric, especially buying used. The Model 3 was the top used EV in May, with prices down 1.6%, according to Cox Automotive's latest EV Market Monitor. At the same time, demand for new vehicles has slumped, with Tesla experiencing lower sales in the first quarter of 2025, while demand for used EVs has surged. As Cox Automotive detailed, the market's growth is driven by customer confidence and affordability. Choosing used EVs is becoming a smart option. It saves consumers money, reduces heat-trapping pollution created during manufacturing by minimizing the need for new production, and keeps older cars out of recycling centers. For those looking to sell their EVs, Recurrent makes it easy to show buyers that the battery is in excellent condition. This free tool can help sellers earn about $1,400 more by sharing data that builds trust. Alternatively, for those who already own or plan to purchase an EV, solar power can help lower charging costs and make EV ownership even more affordable. EnergySage lets consumers compare quotes from local installers and can help you save up to $10,000. R Symons' road test drew mixed reactions. Do you think a majority of Americans will have EVs in 20 years? Absolutely Only in some states No way I'm not sure Click your choice to see results and speak your mind. One YouTube commenter wasn't sold, saying: "I'd love to see some sort of range test on older 5/8/10-year-old Tesla with average/high miles vs how they stacked up new. Showcasing whether age plays a major impact on battery degradation." For another user, however, the test confirmed they could count on their Tesla for the long haul: "My M3 LR is [the] ~ same age (Dec 21) but with 200,000 less miles so I'm pretty sure I'll be driving happily well into the future." Tesla's Model 3 Flagship Finally Has A Serious Rival

The Ioniq 6 N packs 641-hp. Launched just over a year ago, the Tesla Model 3 Performance pumps out 510-hp from its twin electric motors and sprints from 0-60 mph in a supercar-equalling 2.9 seconds thanks to a potent all-wheel-drive system. But now, there's a new kid on the block and it's looking to knock horns with the American EV superstar. The Ioniq 6 N packs a 641-hp punch Hyundai's Ioniq 6 N is by far the hottest sedan to come along since the Model 3 Performance surfaced in April 2024. Launched at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, the world's premier motor sport gathering last weekend, the new halo car—which borrows mush of its underpinnings from the Ioniq 5 N—is expected to generate up to 641-hp and hit 0-60 mph in 3.0 seconds flat. Like BMW's high performance 'M' division, the 'N' division inside Hyundai denotes the brand's 'N' philosophy of 'Corner Rascal, Racetrack Capability and Everyday Sportscar.' The 6 N comes with all kinds of wizz-bang N-spec tech to elevate the driving experience The 6 N's battery is also carried over from the 5 N, referring to an 84kWh unit that should quick-charge from 10 to 80 per cent in under 20 minutes and deliver around 290 miles of range, or so says Hyundai. The 6 N also gets a revised 'N Battery Conditioning' system permitting the driver to choose either 'Drag', 'Sprint' or 'Endurance' modes which heats the battery to the optimum temperature for the selected driving mode. Where as performance is expected to be almost identical—as both the Tesla and Hyundai hover around the 3.0 second mark from zero to 60mph, the Model 3 Performance sells for around $56,000 where as the Ioniq 6 N is expected to land in showrooms nearly five figures more at around $65,000. The 6 N is fitted with re-engineered suspension geometry, stroke-sensing ECS dampers, and a new battery management system that's optimized for performance in a wide range of driving situations. Aerodynamics has an important role as portrayed by beefier fenders, a swan-neck rear wing and aggressive downforce modifications. Inside the car, the Ioniq 6 N employs features like the N e-Shift boasting simulated gear changes and N Active Sound+ produces simulated engine and exhaust sounds through the speakers. That's right, simply put, the 6 N is a high performance electric sedan with fake gear changes and fake engine noise. It just seems so poetic that carmakers are swapping manual transmissions for automatic gearboxes and replacing the vocal internal combustion engines from today's cars with silent electric powertrains, and then they are forced to create synthetic gearbox gimmicks because drivers miss changing gears, and add fake engine and exhaust sounds because drivers feel more at home behind the wheel with actual sound. And Hyundai is not the only one doing it. Tailored for track days and serious sideways-to-glory drifting sessions, the 6 N's 'N Drift Optimizer' now employs more settings to customise your drift initiation, angle and wheel slip. A recent 5 N update added 10 levels to the system for beginners right up to a pro setting, but we're told the 6 N goes takes that to a whole new level. But what is arguably the most fascinating aspect of the 6 N is the fact that Hyundai apparently told its engineers to just 'do it,' despite the fact their marketing types said it might be a hard sell. Hyundai's Performance Development Tech Unit head and ex-Porsche engineer Manfred Harrer told Australia's that the company was aware of the Ioniq 6's limited sales success, but that the purpose of the Ioniq 6 N is not to be a best-seller. So just how well this showcase for Hyundai's latest hot tech will sell in anyone's guess.
