Kristen Stewart's directorial debut at Cannes leaves her feeling like a proud parent

CANNES, France (Reuters) - Kristen Stewart said on Saturday that making her directorial debut with "The Chronology of Water" at the Cannes Film Festival felt like sending a child off to school for the first time.
"I'm so proud of it. It's like watching your kid go to school," Stewart told Reuters the day after her film's premiere.
"It feels like all of a sudden the things that I've wanted to do for just so long happened all at the same time," said the actor who rose to fame with the "Twilight" series and received an Oscar nomination for her performance as Britain's Princess Diana in the film "Spencer."
"My head is spinning, but in the best way," she added.
Her film is adapted from Lidia Yuknavitch's 2011 memoir of the same name that chronicles the author's attempt to escape an abusive household through competitive swimming in the 1980s and eventual path to becoming a respected author.
British actor Imogen Poots, known for "Green Room" and "28 Weeks Later," stars as Yuknavitch in what The Rolling Stone lauded as an "all-or-nothing type of performance."
"There's a line in the book that made me want to make it a movie, which is like, 'Can you hold life and death in the same sentence?' And that's what cinema can do," said Stewart.
"With this movie, we can just speak to the fact that the things that happen don't matter as much as how you process those things and define them within your own body," she added.
Stewart's film is competing in the second-tier Un Certain Regard section, where actors Scarlett Johansson and Harris Dickinson are also marking their first time as directors.
"The Chronology of Water" was met with positive reviews, with Deadline calling it a "raw and intricately constructed take on a biopic" and The Guardian giving it three out of five stars.

Legendary Superman villain actor Terence Stamp has died at the age of 87. Stamp's family made the announcement of his death August 17, telling Reuters, "He leaves behind an extraordinary body of work, both as an actor and as a writer that will continue to touch and inspire people for years to come. We ask for privacy at this sad time." His cause of death has not yet been made public. In the film, Stamp's delivery of the line, "Kneel before Zod!" became one of the most famous phrases in the franchise's history. Stamp returned to the world of Superman decades later when he voiced the character of Jor-El, Superman's father from Krypton, on Smallville from 2003-2007. Stamp's career spanned decades, and he was also in Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace in 1999 where he played Chancellor Finis Valorum, the leader before Palpatine. At one point, he shared a living space with Michael Caine, who said, "In the sixties, everyone you knew became famous. My flatmate was Terence Stamp." Stamp was also once in the running to succeed the role of James Bond after Sean Connery, but did not land the part. Among his other films were The Adjustment Bureau with Matt Damon in 2011, Valkyrie with Tom Cruise in 2008 and a range of Tim Burton projects. Superman fans took to social media following the news of his death to remember Stamp and his work as General Zod, with many quoting the famous "Kneel before Zod!" line. 'Reacher' Season 4's Streaming Status is Safe. For Now

While there's not yet a release for Reacher Season 4, one of the major corporations behind the show, Paramount, has undergone a major shakeup. Following a merger between Skydance Media and Paramount, certain aspects of how shows produced by Paramount will be streamed might change. But it seems Reacher will stay the same, at least for now. Although Reacher is distributed by and co-produced on Amazon Prime Video, the show is also produced by Paramount Television Studios. And now that Paramount has merged with Skydance, some behind-the-scenes stuff will change. But, according to Deadline, that shouldn't impact the viewer experience in the short Reacher still stream on Amazon Prime Video? As of this writing, the Paramount and Skydance merger will not impact the streaming distribution of Reacher Season 4. As pointed out by Screenrant: "It seemed apparent that, given its success, the merger wouldn't negatively impact the series' fate. However, it does mean CBS Studios will no longer be in charge, the baton passing to PTVS as the franchise continues. But this doesn't negatively impact the show." In the first half of 2025, Reacher easily made it into the top 10 most-streamed shows, according to several metrics, including the Nielsen ratings. Overall, Reacher is one of the biggest hits for Prime Video, meaning a switch to another streamer, like Paramount+, seems Season 4 and Neagley release dates Reacher Season 4 began production in June 2025. Meanwhile, the Reacher spinoff show, Neagley, finished filming on June 7, 2025. Both Reacher Season 4 and Neagley Season 1 will likely be released in 2026, though it's possible Neagley could debut later this year. 'Reacher' Season 4's Streaming Status is Safe. Source: ione nicole thomas / IONE, VIA NICOLE THOMAS Denzel Washington dropped some real talk on the state of sports media, and, as expected, he didn't hold back. The iconic actor coined the term 'opinionaires' to describe the current wave of commentators flooding sports media. According to him, too many of these so-called experts are people who have never played the game but love criticizing those who have. 'Those who can't, talk about those who can,' Denzel remarked. 'Those who haven't [played] don't know what they're talking about. Period. Come get in the gym with me; let's find out!' Now, that's the energy we didn't know we needed! But Denzel didn't stop there. He bluntly added that some people in media just need to 'shut up.' Yes, Uncle Denzel said it, and honestly, we've all been thinking it. The Oscar-winning actor has become somewhat of an OG voice lately, keeping it real on everything from Hollywood to headlines, and now, the world of sports. Fans are here for Denzel's unfiltered opinions, with many hoping he'll start a podcast to share even more of his wisdom. Could you imagine a weekly mic drop from Uncle D? The streets would be talking. Until that happens, though, Denzel remains a voice of reason we can count on to call it as he sees it.
