Two schoolgirls claim trial to injuring, confining classmate in school toilet

SUNGAI PETANI: Two Form One schoolgirls pleaded not guilty in the magistrate's court here today to charges of injuring and confining a classmate in a secondary school toilet last month.
The 13-year-old defendants entered their plea after the charges were read to them before magistrate Mohamad Azlan Basri.
For the first charge, they were jointly accused of causing hurt to a female schoolmate of the same age in the Form Six block toilet of the school about 6.40pm on July 14.
The charges were framed under Section 323 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 34 of the same, which carries a maximum jail term of a year, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both, upon conviction.
For the second charge, they were accused of wrongfully confining the victim at the same place, date and time, under Section 342 of the Penal Code, also read together with Section 34.
Deputy public prosecutor Nur Hazwani Md Nor offered bail at RM4,000 for each accused.
However, their lawyer, N. Nagaratnam, sought a lower amount, citing that both are still in school and have cooperated fully with the police.
The court allowed bail of RM2,000 with one surety each and ordered them not to disturb the victim throughout the proceedings, then fixed Sept 23 for mention.
It was previously reported that the victim had been found with her hands and feet bound and her mouth gagged with a handkerchief.

Christopher stated that intelligence led the Criminal Investigation Department (D4) team to track down the suspects, including a Filipino man and woman. Police recovered stolen formula milk at the condominium and inside a car during the operation. Seized items included 72 boxes and 15 packets of infant formula, 12 tins of health milk, and 22 packets of coffee drinks. Authorities also confiscated a car, four mobile phones, clothing, hats, and tools believed to be used in the thefts. The syndicate disguised themselves as customers, with the female suspect hiding stolen items in her clothes while male accomplices acted as lookouts. Investigations revealed the Sabah-based syndicate had been active since 2011 and committed 12 thefts in the week before their arrest. Three suspects had prior criminal records involving drug offences, theft, and causing injury. Suhaimi Abdullah, 37, from Taman Gilbert here made the plea before Magistrate Ashok Linggam after the charge under Section 324 of the Penal Code was read to him. The Section provides for imprisonment of up to 10 years or a fine or whipping, or any two of the punishment, upon conviction. Suhaimi was charged with intentionally causing injury to a Chinese national using a cane at a restaurant on Jalan Sim Cheng Key here at around 1am on Aug 1, 2025. The court fixed Sept 11 for case management and granted the accused bail of RM2,500 with two local sureties. In a separate case in the same courtroom, a 35-year-old woman from Sarikei claimed trial to a charge of possessing methamphetamine. The charge against Uta Seripa was framed under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, punishable under Section 12(3) of the same Act. She allegedly committed the offence in front of a public toilet on Jalan Cynthula here at about 2.50pm on Aug 11, 2025 by having in her possession 0.65g of methamphetamine. If convicted, Uta could be fined up to RM100,000 or imprisoned for a term not exceeding five years, or both. Magistrate Ashok set Sept 29 for case management and set bail at RM2,000 with two local sureties. "The arrests were made following two police reports lodged on Aug 2 regarding thefts at two mini markets in Taman Paya Emas and Bandar Baru Sungai Udang. "Initial investigations revealed that the syndicate from Sabah has been active since 2011, and in the week before their arrest, they were believed to have committed 12 thefts at premises across the three states," he said.
