Police bust 'Susu Borneo' syndicate operating in three states

By: Bernama Text Size: Christopher (second left) shows some of the seized infant formula. - fotoBERNAMA MELAKA: Police have crippled a syndicate known as 'Susu Borneo' with the arrest of its four members, including a woman, on suspicion of stealing infant formula and powdered coffee worth RM12,600 from mini markets in Melaka, Negeri Sembilan, and Pahang. Melaka Tengah Police chief ACP Christopher Patit said the suspects, comprising a 50-year-old woman and three men aged between 23 and 33, were nabbed at a rented condominium in Kuala Lumpur around 12.05 am on Aug 10. "The arrests were made following two police reports lodged on Aug 2 regarding thefts at two mini markets in Taman Paya Emas and Bandar Baru Sungai Udang. "He said based on intelligence gathered, the Criminal Investigation Department (D4) team from the Melaka Tengah Police Headquarters arrested two local males, as well as a Filipino man and woman," he said in a press conference today. Christopher said a further probe led the police to locate the stolen formula milk at the condominium as well as in a car. He said that the seized items included 72 boxes and 15 packets of infant formula, 12 tins of health milk, and 22 packets of coffee drinks, as well as a car, four mobile phones, clothing, hats, and tools believed to have been used in the thefts. "This syndicate's modus operandi was to disguise themselves as customers, with the female suspect concealing the infant formula inside her clothes and trousers, while two male suspects served as lookouts on the left and right aisles of the shelves, and another waited outside the premises. "Initial investigations revealed that the syndicate from Sabah has been active since 2011, and in the week before their arrest, they were believed to have committed 12 thefts at premises across the three states," he said. Christopher added that further investigations showed three of the suspects had prior criminal records involving drug offences, theft, and causing injury. Penang cops bust heroin lab in Bukit Tambun, seize drugs worth RM75,000
NIBONG TEBAL: Police successfully dismantled a heroin processing laboratory, operated by a drug distribution syndicate, in two raids in the Bukit Tambun area here on Tuesday (Aug 12). Seberang Perai Selatan OCPD Supt Jay January Siowou said a police team from the Penang Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department conducted a raid before arresting two local men and a Sri Lankan man, all aged between 25 and 46. "In the first raid at 4.29pm at a house in Taman Tambun Permai, police arrested two local men along with 1,113gm of heroin, 641gm of heroin base, 4kg of caffeine, several chemicals, and equipment suspected of being drug processing tools. "In the second raid at a house not far from the first residence, at around 5.04pm, we arrested a Sri Lankan man with 26kg of caffeine. All the drugs seized in the two raids were worth RM74,500," he said in a statement on Friday (Aug 15). He said based the first house was used as a drug processing laboratory with one of the local suspects being the mastermind and having the expertise to process heroin. Supt Jay said that the other two suspects acted as assistants as well as couriers for the drugs and chemicals for the syndicate. With these activities, he said they were believed to live luxuriously even though they were unemployed. He said intelligence revealed that the syndicate had been engaging in the drug processing activities since January and that the heroin they processed was for the local market. The two local men who were arrested possessed previous records related to drugs and crime, while the Sri Lankan man had no previous record. He added that the total amount of drugs seized could be used by 49,500 addicts. Supt Jay said following their arrest, the police seized four vehicles, as well as two motorcycles, all valued at RM134,500. "All the drugs and vehicles seized in the raid were worth RM209,000. The three men are now remanded for seven days until Aug 19 to assist with the investigation. "The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952," he added. — Bernama

Fear of missing flight leads Chinese national to injure KLIA officer
KUALA LUMPUR: Fear of missing her flight led a Chinese national to injure an immigration officer during a departure inspection at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) on Wednesday. A source said that at the time of the incident, the woman was with family members, including her two children, at the immigration counter. "The woman and her family arrived late at the immigration counter as they were rushing to catch their flight home to Pudong, China, at 7.25pm. "At the counter, the woman was asked to step aside for further checks as there was no record of her entry into Malaysia," the source said. According to the source, anger and fear of missing the flight caused the woman to suddenly create a commotion by raising her voice, pulling the headscarf of the officer on duty, and forcefully pushing the officer's head against a pole in front of the counter. "The woman was detained after the officer sought assistance from other officers on duty," the source added. Meanwhile, Selangor police chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar, when contacted, confirmed this. "Yes… the delay was due to the need for further checks, which angered the woman. "She and her family were in a hurry as they feared missing their flight," he said. Yesterday, the Chinese national was arrested for acting aggressively and injuring an immigration counter officer during a departure inspection at KLIA. The incident occurred at about 7.40pm at the KLIA Terminal 1 Departure Hall when four Chinese nationals — two adults and two children — were undergoing immigration departure checks. The Chinese national is being investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code (obstructing a public servant), Section 332 (causing hurt to a public servant), and Section 353 (using criminal force against a public servant).

Azizah calls for detailed review of juvenile offence penalties

She said any legal amendments must be considered carefully, noting that such decisions should be based on a thorough investigation rather than a single case. Azizah was responding to a recent suggestion by the Sabah Consumers Affairs and Protection Society (Caps) to lower the age limit for juvenile offenders from 18 to under 15 in view of the rise in youth-related crime. She stressed that a comprehensive study involving experts and multiple stakeholders is needed to develop the most effective approach in addressing juvenile offences, including bullying in schools, workplaces, and within families.
