Penang cops bust heroin lab in Bukit Tambun, seize drugs worth RM75,000
Seberang Perai Selatan OCPD Supt Jay January Siowou said a police team from the Penang Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department conducted a raid before arresting two local men and a Sri Lankan man, all aged between 25 and 46.
"In the first raid at 4.29pm at a house in Taman Tambun Permai, police arrested two local men along with 1,113gm of heroin, 641gm of heroin base, 4kg of caffeine, several chemicals, and equipment suspected of being drug processing tools.
"In the second raid at a house not far from the first residence, at around 5.04pm, we arrested a Sri Lankan man with 26kg of caffeine. All the drugs seized in the two raids were worth RM74,500," he said in a statement on Friday (Aug 15).
He said based the first house was used as a drug processing laboratory with one of the local suspects being the mastermind and having the expertise to process heroin.
Supt Jay said that the other two suspects acted as assistants as well as couriers for the drugs and chemicals for the syndicate.
With these activities, he said they were believed to live luxuriously even though they were unemployed.
He said intelligence revealed that the syndicate had been engaging in the drug processing activities since January and that the heroin they processed was for the local market.
The two local men who were arrested possessed previous records related to drugs and crime, while the Sri Lankan man had no previous record.
He added that the total amount of drugs seized could be used by 49,500 addicts.
Supt Jay said following their arrest, the police seized four vehicles, as well as two motorcycles, all valued at RM134,500.
"All the drugs and vehicles seized in the raid were worth RM209,000. The three men are now remanded for seven days until Aug 19 to assist with the investigation.
"The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952," he added. — Bernama

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 16 (Bernama) -- The visa status held by foreigners does not grant them immunity to break the law in this country. Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said firm and stringent action will be taken against any foreign national who violates Malaysia's laws, including breaching pass conditions, posing a security threat, or disturbing public order. He said actions taken include pass cancellation, blacklisting, and deportation to the country of origin, and this principle is applied consistently, irrespective of the individual's background or status. "Visa status, whether as a student, investor, long-term visit pass holder, or participant in the Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) programme, does not provide immunity from the laws of this country. "The safety of Malaysians and the sovereignty of the nation are non-negotiable priorities," he said in a statement tonight. Saifuddin said the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) consistently carries out its enforcement duties in a professional manner, without discrimination or exceptions based on race or country of origin, particularly in cases involving foreigners. He added that the law investigates all reports involving foreign nationals and takes appropriate action to ensure public safety, including in cases that receive media coverage. "Recent incidents involving foreigners that have gone viral have drawn public attention, but it must be emphasised that each case will be handled properly through existing laws," he said. He further said that Malaysia has specified that the recruitment of low-skilled foreign workers is permitted only from 15 officially designated source countries, and China is not among them.

'Buli' pocket talk at Perlis Connect educates students on dangers, laws
PADANG BESAR: The government's commitment to tackling bullying has been translated into action through a pocket talk session titled 'Buli' (Bullying), held as part of the Perlis Connect programme at Padang Besar Street here on Saturday (Aug 16). The session, conducted by Inspector Harris Md Noor, Senior Investigating Officer of the Padang Besar District Police Headquarters (IPD), covered the definition of bullying, its various forms, the root causes of such behaviour and the legal provisions related to the offence. Students from several institutions of higher learning who attended said the programme provided them with greater awareness of behaviours that could lead to bullying and how to address them. Nurul Syafiqah Narul Hisam, 19, a Diploma in Manufacturing Engineering student at Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP), said the talk deepened her understanding of bullying and made her more alert to such acts among her peers. "This session gave me exposure to the dangers of bullying. From now on, I will be more aware, and if I detect any bullying elements, I know the appropriate actions to take. "I can report it to the Student Representative Council (MPP) for further action, and if it is a serious case, it can be reported directly to the police,' she said. Another participant, Muhamad Haziq Ziqrie Mohamad Aziz, 18, a Foundation in Management student at Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), Sintok, Kedah, said the talk not only informed him about the punishments for bullying but also served as a reminder for youths to stay away from such behaviour. "What I learned is that we should avoid jealousy or inciting our peers to bully those who are weaker. Police and MCMC track TikTok user over fake Zara Qairina post-mortem claims
KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) are tracking a TikTok user who falsely claimed to be a surgeon involved in the post-mortem of Zara Qairina Mahathir. Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil stated that the individual falsely asserted his presence during the procedure on Aug 10. The Health Ministry confirmed the person was neither a specialist nor a staff member. Fahmi said the TikTok user spread misinformation during a live session, misleading the public. The false claims went viral, causing widespread confusion. He addressed the issue after launching the National Month and Fly the Jalur Gemilang 2025 campaign at the Teacher Education Institute (Malay Language Campus). Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad verified the false claims through an official report. Deputy director-general (Medical) Datuk Dr Nor Azimi Yunus confirmed the forensic team had no such specialist involved. The TikTok user has since set his account to private, complicating investigations. Fahmi warned the public against believing unverified social media content. Spreading false information is punishable by fines of up to RM500,000. Zara Qairina was pronounced dead at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Kota Kinabalu on July 17.
