Ilia And Gustaf Westman Collaborate: A Bold Fusion Of Makeup, Design, And Art

Westman's pieces inspired by Ilia makeup
It's fair to say that both Ilia and designer Gustaf Westman are having a moment. While Ilia's makeup and beauty products are currently on fire, Gustaf Westman isn't a household name just yet. However, his 'curvy mirror' (along with the seemingly endless number of dupes) was one of the hottest looks on TikTok in the past year. So what better combination to collaborate than Ilia and Westman?
Cafe Telegrama was transformed
During Frieze LA, the duo took over Café Telegrama in Melrose Hill to combine design and makeup in a unique and innovative way. This colorful pop-up featured several one-of-a-kind pieces to celebrate Ilia's Eye Stylus launch, which are eye shadow sticks inspired by classical art. The result was way more than coffee and conversation pieces—it was the perfect pairing, according to Westman. 'Makeup is about expressing yourself, and that's basically what I do when I design my objects!'
Ilia Eye Stylus
The brand's latest launch is one of its most vibrant yet. Featuring a variety of both shimmer and matte hues, these glide on for a natural, easy-to-blend look. The sticks are shadows, liners and even work as a highlighter in a pinch. Sasha Plavsic, Ilia's founder, tells me, 'When we began to develop Eye Stylus, we were inspired by the luminous colors of Renaissance art. When you walk by a Renaissance oil painting, the light catches the color, texture, and sheen, making it very dimensional—almost 3D-looking.'

With that inspiration in mind, they wanted to work with Westman. 'Art and architecture have always been a crucial strand of Ilia's DNA. Working with an architect-turned-designer like Gustaf Westman, who could tell the story of color and texture with us, was so natural,' she explains. 'Bringing his incredible work, characterized by vibrant shades and bold shapes, to our pop-up café in Los Angeles, we transformed the space into an immersive experience that reflected the Eye Stylus's blend of creativity and functionality.'
So when the brand approached the designer, he was incredibly excited about all of the possibilities. 'I felt drawn to both the concept and the creative freedom it offered. Saying yes felt effortless.'
Shapes and colors inside Cafe Telegrama
After all, while art, design, and makeup revolve around beauty, this approach was a true melding of inspiration. 'The entire collaboration felt like a wholly unique opportunity to bring this modern makeup innovation to life and echo the foundational vision of Ilia—to create products that beautify and embody the creativity and care we value deeply. The Eye Stylus stands as a testament to this journey, offering performance, ease of use, and a celebration of art and beauty,' says Plavsic.
Coffee but make it art
The pop-up featured a variety of pieces designed by Westman, including vibrantly colored vanities, curved chairs, and round tables with tiny tops designed to hold a cup of coffee. Westman tells me, 'The inspiration stemmed from Ilia's vision, which centered around themes of the Renaissance and flow. I wanted to design a vanity that embodied continuous movement throughout its entire structure.'
A custom vanity
While the pieces from the event are not currently for sale, Westman's Flower Mirror Micro and Chunky Plates, which are available, are an easy way to get the look—especially when paired all of Ilia's products.

Vanessa Bryant Channels Rihanna To Address Pregnancy Rumors Like A Boss

Vanessa Bryant is tackling rumors about her private life with a little help from the Rihanna playbook. The widow of NBA legend Kobe Bryant shut down online speculation she's pregnant with her fifth child by sharing a photo of Rihanna looking particularly unbothered, drink in hand, to her Instagram Stories. 'Me protecting my peace, not pregnant & having fun all summer,' Vanessa Bryant wrote, alongside a handful of cheerful emojis. A moment later, she added a second Rihanna meme with the caption: 'I'm not mean, I'm just not the one.' Rumors that Vanessa Bryant was expecting a child with an unnamed 27-year-old basketball player began popping up online late last month, though the source of the speculation is unclear. The philanthropist and former dancer hasn't publicly been in a romantic relationship since the 2020 death of Kobe Bryant and their daughter Gianna in a helicopter crash. She and her late husband also share three other daughters: Natalia, 22, Bianka, 8, and Capri, 5. Prior to Vanessa Bryant's witty response, the rumors had sparked a fair amount of discourse over the social expectations placed on widows. The implication that the 43-year-old had moved on to a new romance five years after Kobe Bryant's death drew criticism on social media, with some oddly suggesting she had an obligation to stay single to protect her late husband's legacy. 'Bashing Vanessa Bryant, Kobe Bryant's wife, for being pregnant is just insane to me. Genuinely, she is a widow,' one TikTok user said Monday. 'What do you all expect widows to do? Life keeps going, life keeps moving. Who said that she couldn't heal and she couldn't go ahead and continue to live life?' Added another: 'This lady is allowed to love again ... you all do know that a lot of men, they move on the next month, the next year, the next week, the next minute. So, really, why does it matter? It's literally been half of a decade.' New romance or not, Vanessa Bryant appeared to be staying true to her pledge by taking in a day at Disneyland. On Monday, she shared a short video on Instagram showing her with her daughters at the Anaheim, California, theme park. TikTok gives artists new tools to track and boost viral songs

TikTok has boosted the careers of numerous musicians, thanks to their songs—both new and old—going viral. The latest example is Connie Francis' 1962 hit Pretty Little Baby, which is currently inescapable across For You pages. Now, TikTok is making it even easier for artists to capitalize on viral moments. The platform has rolled out its music insights tool globally, following a limited beta launch that was quietly tested with a select group of artists two months ago. TikTok for Artists offers musicians daily updates on how their songs are being used and which tracks are generating the most engagement. Metrics include the number of views, posts, and creator interactions per song, as well as insights into each post's performance. Artists also gain access to demographic data about their followers, such as age, language, and self-identified gender. 'All tiers of artists will gain insights on TikTok that they can use to take their careers to a whole new level,' said Tracy Gardner, TikTok's global head of music business development, in a statement. 'We built the platform to give artists transparent access to useful, actionable data about their music and their fans, to help them better engage with the TikTok community and supercharge their careers both on and off the platform.' One early tester, Cyril Riley, said: 'My team and I rely on TikTok for Artists daily, sometimes even hourly. In such a rapidly evolving industry, it's crucial for us to consistently monitor and review the analytics of my account.' Another musician, Jordan Adetunji, called it a 'game changer.' Alongside the analytics tool, TikTok has launched a pre-release feature that lets artists promote upcoming music on the platform. Fans can pre-save unreleased albums directly to their Spotify or Apple Music libraries, making the music instantly available when it drops. Not everyone is enthusiastic, though. Some critics view this as TikTok following in Spotify's footsteps (Spotify launched Spotify for Artists back in 2016), fostering a culture of music made specifically to go viral. As The Fader 's Jordan Darville writes, 'a massively popular app creates artist 'services' that steer the sound of music in directions more profitable for the platform, and simultaneously throttles royalties to make shareholders happy.' Perhaps these new TikTok features will inspire more unexpected comebacks from pop icons of the '60s—or maybe they'll just give us new options to soundtrack our TikTok carousels.

TikToker Sana Yousuf shot dead, man arrested in case of 'repeated rejections'

TikToker Sana Yousuf shot dead, man arrested in case of 'repeated rejections' Show Caption Hide Caption TikTok influencer Valeria Marquez shot while livestreaming in Mexico A man fatally shot a 23-year-old Mexican TikTok influencer, Valeria Marquez, while she was livestreaming. A 17-year-old social media influencer was killed in Pakistan after she repeatedly rejected a man's advances, authorities said. Sana Yousuf, who had recently celebrated her birthday on May 29, was shot dead by an unidentified man around 5 p.m. on June 2 at her home in Islamabad in front of her mother and aunt, Islamabad Police said. A day after the incident sent shockwaves across the country, Islamabad Police arrested the main suspect, Umar Hayat, a 22-year-old man from Faisalabad, a city about 200 miles from the capital of Islamabad. Police said the suspect had only done his matriculation, equivalent to high school in the U.S., and belonged to a lower-middle-income family, with 'no source of income." Pakistan's Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, in a post on X, said the accused has confessed to the murder and that the weapon had been recovered. Sana Yousuf's murder a case of 'repeated rejections' Islamabad Inspector General (IG) Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, in a press conference on May 3, said the incident was a case of 'repeated rejections." 'A monster, cold-blooded murderer is now in the law's grip,' IG Rizvi said during the press conference, noting the suspect had tried to contact Sana repeatedly and was being 'rejected by her again and again." The police chief said the culprit wanted to 'become friends' with the social media influencer and had made repeated attempts to make connections with her. He even reached her home on her birthday on May 29 and "tried to meet her for seven to eight hours but failed.' 'First, it was a cellular rejection. Now, it was a physical mode of rejection," Rizvi said. On the day of the murder, the suspect made a similar attempt for the same amount of time to meet Sana but was unsuccessful, according to Rizvi. After receiving multiple rejections and no response from Sana, the suspect then forcefully entered her home and shot her. Police said the suspect had planned the murder, and Samaa News reported he parked his motorcycle near Sana's house and fled the scene on it after committing the crime. CCTV footage shows what appears to be the suspect running away from the location on foot. According to a First Information Report lodged by the victim's mother, Farzana Yousuf, the suspect entered their home suddenly with a pistol around 5 p.m. on June 2 and fired point blank at Sana, local media outlet Dawn reported. Two bullets struck Sana in her chest, severely injuring her. While she was rushed to a hospital, she could not be revived and succumbed to her wounds. 'It was a blind murder' Rizvi termed the murder a 'very challenging case,' adding that multiple raids were conducted in a bid to nab the suspect, including three in Islamabad and eight others in other cities. 'It was a blind murder; there were no leads, and things were not clear," Rizvi said. "Attempts were made to give the incident another angle, even though the aim of taking the mobile was to wipe out the clues." Police claim the suspect had taken Sana's mobile phone with him to delete evidence. The phone and the murder weapon were recovered during the police's investigation. Rizvi said he appreciated members of the social, electronic and print media, highlighting 'many leads' came from journalists who 'offered their services in analyzing social media." Who is Sana Yousuf? How many followers did she have? Sana Yousuf was a medical student and popular TikTok creator from Chitral, in Pakistan's north, according to Dawn News. The teenager had a million followers on TikTok and more than 500,000 followers on Instagram, and she was well-known for her social media posts. A quick scroll through her social media accounts shows the young girl living life to the fullest and sharing beauty, fashion and food-related content. The last video on her account was posted hours before her murder, in which she was seen cutting a cake for her birthday. Saman Shafiq is a trending news reporter for USA TODAY.
