The reaction on the pitch and in the dugout was one of disappointment and frustration. Bournemouth captain Adam Smith called the incident 'unacceptable,' while head coach Iraola said, 'It's a big shame, most of the news will be about this thing. Obviously, it is something that is still a big problem, not just in football. From the Liverpool side, they have identified this person,' as quoted by Sky Sports.

New Signings Reijnders, Cherki shine in Manchester City win over Wolves
Tijjani Reijnders and Erling Haaland starred as Manchester City opened its Premier League campaign by crushing Wolverhampton 4-0. On a great day for City's new signings, Reijnders played a part in the first three goals scoring one himself and Rayan Cherki came off the bench to grab a late fourth. Coach Pep Guardiola made Reijnders a priority signing from AC Milan to compensate for playmaker Kevin De Bruyne's departure. He also snapped up the technically gifted Cherki from Lyon, where he made his debut at the age of 16. Reijnders prised the Wolves defense open with a delightful flick over the defense to allow Rico Lewis the space to pick out Haaland to score his first from a low cross in the 34th minute. Three minutes later, Oscar Bobb played Reijnders in down the left and the Netherlands midfielder arrowed a superb first-time shot into the bottom right corner from just inside the penalty area. City's third in the 61st came when Reijnders expertly took down a high ball, swapped passes with Bobb down the right and pulled the ball back for Haaland to finish with a crisp drive. Just six minutes after going on, France international Cherki bamboozled the Wolves defense and picked his spot from 20 meters out. Elsewhere, Newcastle lacked a cutting edge without its star striker Alexander Isak and drew at Aston Villa 0-0. Tottenham looked far sharper, dispatching newly promoted Burnley 3-0 with Brazil forward Richarlison scoring twice. Isak was left out as he tries to push for a move to defending champion Liverpool. New signing Anthony Elanga looked dangerous on the right of Newcastle's attack, but the visitors could not make the most of their possession. Villa's Ezri Konsa was sent off in the 66th minute for pulling back Anthony Gordon as he raced through on goal. West Ham lost at promoted Sunderland 3-0, and Fulham equalized deep into stoppage time for 1-1 at Brighton. Mohammed Kudus set up Richarlison from the right flank for both of his goals, the second of which was an exquisite scissor kick in the 60th. Brennan Johnson latched onto Pape Sarr's pass shortly after to make it 3-0 for Europa League winner Tottenham, which lost midweek to Champions League winner Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Super Cup. Forward Eliezer Mayenda and center half Dan Ballard scored with headers in the second half for Sunderland before Wilson Isidor sealed the win with an injury-time goal. Matt O'Riley's penalty early in the second half for Brighton punished a foul by Fulham's Sander Berge on Georginio Rutter as he ran into the penalty box. But Brighton failed to deal with a corner and Rodrigo Muniz fired in the equalizer in the sixth minute of injury time. In memory of Jota A moment's silence was observed at those Premier League games in memory of the former Liverpool and Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Diogo Jota. Before facing City, Wolves fans displayed a giant tifo of Jota, who played two seasons in the Premier League with the West Midlands club before joining Liverpool in 2020. A banner under the tifo in his memory read We'll remember you when you walk in fields of gold, and fans at Molineux Stadium chanted his name after a moment's applause was held while a Portuguese flag was flown. They chanted his name again in the 18th minute, in reference to the jersey number he wore at Wolves. On Friday, Liverpool players and fans paid moving tributes to Jota and his brother, Andre Silva, at Anfield before and during the league-opener against Bournemouth. The Portuguese brothers died in a car crash in Spain last month. Liverpool beat Bournemouth 4-2 in a match marred by alleged racial abuse of Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo by a spectator. On Saturday, Semenyo thanked the soccer community for supporting him. Manchester United vs Arsenal: Top 5 player battles to look out for
The Premier League fixture computer has thrown up an early-season blockbuster as Manchester United host Arsenal at Old Trafford in a clash brimming with history and intensity. United, eager to bounce back after a dismal 2024/25 campaign, have splashed the cash over the summer to rebuild under new leadership. In contrast, Arsenal are looking to carry their upward momentum into the new season and finally mount a successful title charge. A win at Old Trafford would set the tone perfectly for Mikel Arteta's men. Benjamin Šeško vs William Saliba All eyes will be on Manchester United's marquee signing, Benjamin Šeško, who was once on Arsenal's radar before opting for a move to Old Trafford. Making his Premier League debut, Šeško will be keen to show what the Gunners missed out on. However, facing him is the composed and commanding William Saliba, one of the league's top defenders. Saliba's experience and positional intelligence will be vital in containing the raw threat Šeško brings, especially as the striker is still settling into his new surroundings. Viktor Gyökeres vs Harry Maguire On the opposite end, Arsenal's new forward Viktor Gyökeres will be up against United stalwart Harry Maguire. Gyökeres has had more time to integrate into Arteta's system, having featured in pre-season matches, and will be familiar with United boss Ruben Amorim from their Sporting CP days. Maguire, leading United's defence in a likely back-three setup, must either directly challenge the Swede or coordinate his teammates effectively to nullify his threat. If he succeeds, it could tip the balance United's way. Bruno Fernandes vs Declan Rice In midfield, United's creative heartbeat Bruno Fernandes remains a crucial figure despite the squad overhaul. Likely operating from a deeper role, Fernandes will need to navigate the relentless presence of Declan Rice. Rice's high-energy pressing and tactical awareness make him a key disruptor, but he's also capable of advancing the play himself. Both players will influence their side's tempo and control, making this a duel of both brains and brawn. Amad Diallo vs Myles Lewis-Skelly A less heralded but potentially game-defining match-up could unfold on United's right flank. Amad Diallo, operating as an attacking wing-back, may find space if Arsenal's Myles Lewis-Skelly inverts into midfield as expected. While Lewis-Skelly's movement can help Arsenal dominate possession centrally, it also risks leaving space behind—exactly where Diallo thrives. If the young Gunner fails to track back consistently, Diallo could be United's X-factor. Martin Odegaard vs Manuel Ugarte The Norwegian midfielder is often known for his defence cutting passes through the midfield and if provided ample space, could create multiple chances for the Gunners at Old Trafford. However, standing in his way will be Manuel Ugarte who loves to disrupt the opponent's peace and not allow then an inch of grass to operate at their best levels. With multiple mini-battles across the field, this fixture promises more than just early-season bragging rights, it's a tone-setter for both clubs aiming to reclaim their place at the top.
