Parneet Kaur settles for silver after narrow loss in archery final
Parneet, who had topped the qualification round, started strong and shot flawlessly in the first two ends (three arrows each), opening up a two-point lead against her third seed rival.
However, she lost momentum in the third end, dropping two points as Moon stepped up with a perfect round of 30 to draw level.
There was no looking back for the Korean thereafter as Moon shot another flawless round of three 10s in the fourth end to gain a one-point lead.
That meant Parneet needed a perfect score in the final end to keep her hopes alive for the gold.
But despite scoring an impressive 29, Moon matched her with another 29 to seal the title 147-146.
Earlier in the semifinals, Parneet edged fifth seed Kim Sooyeon of South Korea by just one point (145-144) in a tense contest.
She began with a perfect round of 30 to take a one-point lead, and extended it to two points in the second end (58-56).
A third successive perfect round gave her a four-point cushion as Kim managed only 28.
However, Parneet slipped in the fourth end, shooting 28 to Kim's perfect 30, reducing the lead to two.
In the final end, Kim again shot 30, but Parneet's 29 was just enough to hold on for a one-point win and book a final clash with Moon.
With this, Indian archers have so far claimed four medals including a mixed team gold, men's team silver, and women's team bronze at the Games. PTI TAP AM TAP AM AM

ED records Raina's statement in illegal betting probe
New Delhi: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Wednesday recorded the statement of cricketer Suresh Raina in connection with its larger money laundering probe against several illegal online betting platforms, which use multiple platforms for surrogate advertisements and collect funds from their users, officials said. Raina's statement was recorded under the prevention of money laundering act (PMLA) for endorsing a sports betting app, which indulged in illegal practices. An officer, without naming the player, said 'another former Indian cricketer has also been asked to appear before the agency.' ED is calling several celebrities to understand their links with the betting apps, any endorsement fee earned and the mode of communication between them. Earlier, the agency had called the representatives of Google and Meta for questioning as part of this probe. The financial crimes probe agency is probing multiple illegal online betting platforms and has questioned tech firms, media houses' representatives who have received money in the form of advertisements from them. Several platforms hosting illegal betting and gambling links, including instances of advertisements placed for them on various social media outlets and app stores, are under the ED scanner. In 2023, the Union ministry of information and broadcasting issued four advisories to newspapers, broadcast news channels, entertainment channels, publishers of online news and current affairs content, online advertisement intermediaries (like Google and Facebook), and social media platforms to not advertise online betting platforms. Despite these instructions from the Centre, eminent personalities in the field of entertainment and sports endorsed them. These actors and sportspersons are also under the ED's scanner and they could be summoned soon, according to an ED officer. According to the information gathered by ED over the past several months, multiple betting platforms, which have been banned over the years, still run their operations by changing names and are promoted by celebrities and social media influencers. 'These platforms are in violation of multiple laws and directions by the Indian government, including tax evasion, money laundering, and Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) as money is transferred out of the country illegally. It is estimated that around 220 million Indian users are currently engaged on various betting apps, and 110 million of these are regular users,' said the officer. In just the first three months of 2025, more than 1.6 billion visits were recorded on illegal betting websites or apps and it is suspected that the online betting market in India might be worth around $100 million, the first ED officer said. 'The estimates also suggest that top betting apps are evading ₹27,000 crore in taxes every year,' the officer said. The government has issued 1,524 blocking orders against illegal gambling websites and mobile apps between 2022 and June 2025, as revealed in a response from the ministry of electronics and information technology (MeitY) in the ongoing monsoon session.

Venkatesh Iyer's IPL 2025 season with Kolkata Knight Riders was dismal by his standards. Purchased for a record ₹23.75 crore, he faced intense public scrutiny and constant comparisons between his price tag and returns, even while battling a painful webbing injury. He scored 142 runs in 11 games at n average of 20.29. Despite the noise, Iyer insists his preparation and effort remain the same, regardless of the money involved. A selfless team player, he often shifted batting positions and even played through injury in the Ranji Trophy to help his skipper. He believes 'impact' matters more than raw statistics, with contributions under pressure carrying special value. Eyeing a return to the Indian team, he aims to rebuild his bowling workload, though he feels the Impact Player rule has limited his IPL growth. Responsibility is not just in terms of runs to be scored or wickets to be picked, it's about the role in the team and how you can create a bigger impact. So I did have that in mind. Also, with regard to my preparation, nothing changes. Be it ₹20 lakh or ₹20 crore, preparation won't change. You have to do double the hard work as the previous year, regardless of the money. That day was very hectic but, post that, things were kind of back to normal.' Many fans questioned the ₹23.75 crore figure, piling on unnecessary pressure. His response is simple: 'People who had these questions are not even on my contact list. So why do I have to even think about what they are thinking? It's my life, my game, my career. And it's my team that has chosen to spend so much on me. So these things don't phase me... there are a lot of eyes on you, but it's important to know what to pay heed to. People who have had a direct impact on my life, I am answerable to only them.' Support From KKR Management According to Iyer, KKR shielded him from much of the noise: 'They know the magnitude of it, obviously from experience... They have made a team, they wanted the team to do well, and I am part of a team. And it is my duty to do well for them. Unfortunately, it didn't happen. But my aim is always to try and win as many games as possible for KKR.' He also sees the price tag as recognition of his journey: 'I would like to think so. But it's not about just the money, it's about where I fit in their scheme of things. Venky sir once told me something, which I felt made a lot of sense. He said, 'At the end of the day, you are given 120 units to build a team. Once the team is built, it doesn't matter how many units you have spent on what. It is a team that has been made now, that's it.'
