Ayer Kuning voters want friendly, committed rep
TAPAH: Ayer Kuning voters want their new state representative to always engage with the constituents.
Eka Anggraini Azuardi, a 40-year-old apam balik seller, said residents want someone approachable like the late assemblyman Ishsam Shahruddin.
'We want someone responsive and grounded, not someone who is only seen during elections,' she said.
She expressed her unhappiness with the one-way traffic system and lack of parking, which are hurting traders in Bukit Baldwin.
'The one-way traffic system implemented in certain areas is not ideal.
'Traders near Bukit Baldwin are struggling, with some finding it hard to make even RM50 a day.
'There's also not enough parking, which affects both customers and traders,' she said.
Businessman Chong Thin Tuck, 53, cited poor road conditions and water supply disruptions in the area.
'The road condition here is quite bad, which I believe is caused by lorries. There are also potholes everywhere. Repair works are only done during elections,' he saids.
Street vendor Sarah Isa, 45, said the elected representative must continue working for the people beyond the campaigning period.
'Don't just show up during elections,' she said, adding that the representative should be someone who cares about the locals and can find solutions to issues.
Sarah also said that many locals were unfamiliar with Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM), whose candidate KS Bawani is contesting in the by-election.
'For PSM, most people here don't really know them, so their chances seem uncertain,' she claimed.
Retiree V. Ganesan, 65, who has met all three candidates from Barisan Nasional, Perikatan Nasional and PSM, believes Barisan is likely to perform well due to its established presence and past performance under Ishsam.
'I think Barisan will do well because the late Ishsam did a lot for the people.
'Barisan is also well-established here and many older voters like me are comfortable with the service they have provided,' he said.

Deleum expands Thai footprint with RM60m oilfield acquisition
DELEUM Bhd is expanding its regional presence with a proposed acquisition of an oilfield services business in Thailand worth RM60 million, as part of efforts to scale up its operations in the region. According to a filing with Bursa Malaysia, its indirect subsidiary Deleum Oilfield Solutions (Thailand) Co Ltd (DOST) has entered into a sale and purchase agreement with Thailand-based MPC Future Co Ltd to acquire the latter's oil and gas business and assets — excluding its e-line operations. The RM60 million consideration comprises the issuance of new ordinary and preference shares in DOST to MPC, amounting to a combined 48.34% stake in the Thai entity, and a cash payment for the remainder of the deal value. The cash portion will be funded via bank borrowings from Deleum's wholly owned unit, Deleum Services Sdn Bhd (DSSB). As part of the deal structure, DOST will also issue a 1.73% stake to a local entity controlled by Suthee Chivaphongse — who is currently a director and major shareholder of DOST — for THB10 million under a separate subscription agreement. This related party transaction is intended to retain local expertise and is not expected to materially affect the group's financial position. The target business comprises slickline, hydraulic workover and wellhead maintenance services, as well as related assets valued at about RM50 million as of June 2024. The acquisition includes operational contracts, equipment, and leases tied to the business. Upon completion, DOST's paid-up capital will rise to THB576.8 million, with DSSB retaining control by holding a 49.93% stake and the right to appoint a majority of directors. The remaining shares will be held by MPC and the Suthee-controlled entity. The acquisition is subject to several conditions precedent and completion is expected in the second half of 2025. Deleum said the acquisition is a strategic move to grow its presence in Thailand and achieve operational synergies through DOST. The proposed transaction will strengthen DOST's oil and gas services segment and is expected to be value-accretive to the group over the long term. The transaction will not impact Deleum's share capital or shareholder structure, but may raise its gearing level. Nonetheless, the board believes it remains at a manageable level. BN will field MCA, MIC candidates in GE16, says Zahid
PORT DICKSON: All Barisan Nasional component parties, including MCA and MIC, will continue to be given opportunities to contest in the 16th General Election (GE16). Barisan chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said that this decision has been set by the coalition, including using its own symbol in the upcoming election, reported Sinar Harian. "I mentioned that in GE16, we will continue to use the scales as BN's symbol. "The parties within BN will continue to be given seats to contest. Although the election is still far off, that is the decision we have made," he said during a press conference after officiating the Port Dickson Umno division meeting here on Sunday (June 15). Also present were Negri Sembilan Umno chairman, Datuk Seri Jalaluddin Alias, and Port Dickson Umno division chief, Datuk Mohd Faizal Ramli. He added that the contributions and sacrifices of MCA and MIC, in particular, should continue to be remembered as these parties were instrumental in Barisan's existence during Umno's split in 1987. Ahmad Zahid, who is also Umno president, said it would be inappropriate for Barisan to abandon those parties when they are facing difficulties now. "During Umno's split into two in 1987, when there were Teams A and B, our friends in BN, especially MCA and MIC, were instrumental in BN's existence. "In GE14 and GE15, they faced issues as they could not retain their seats. Therefore, Umno must support our friends when they have problems, and this is the BN spirit that we must strengthen," he said. Ahmad Zahid also expressed confidence that Barisan's current component partners will continue to strengthen the party. When asked about the 'Himpunan Turun Anwar' expected to be held by PAS Youth on July 26, he said the opposition would continuously try to topple the government by any means. "The current government will not fall just because of demonstrations. "The opposition's attitude has always been like that. So, we should not worry about such attitudes (bringing down the government) and I think it's easy to criticise, but doing the work is hard,' he said. Ahmad Zahid urged the component parties in the unity government to continue strengthening the existing unity, thus ensuring that the current government remains until GE16.

Contractor ordered to refund client RM25,000 for delay in Mersing dream home construction
Mohd Najib's dream bungalow in Mersing was only 37% completed. FOR a Johor Baru lorry driver, the joy of seeing his family's single-storey bungalow completed might not come for a while. Last year, Mohd Najib Mohd Yunos, 45, from Taman Pulai Indah, hired a building contractor to construct his dream home. He entrusted plans for the 25ft by 32ft house with 800sq ft built-up floor area to the contractor whose registered business address is in Endau. The bungalow, costing RM108,000 and situated in Kampung Air Puteri, Mersing, about 126km from Johor Baru, was to have been built using pre-fabricated construction. According to the claimant, the construction agreement was signed between him and the contractor on Sept 23, 2024. 'The contractor had to finish building the house by Sept 23 this year,' he said when met outside the Johor Consumer Claims Tribunal in Menara Ansar, Johor Baru. Mohd Najib made two progressive payments of RM40,000 and RM24,800 respectively on Sept 20 and 21, 2024, on the respondent's claim that 60% of the house had been completed. He made another payment of RM21,600 on Oct 23 after the contractor said 80% of the house had been completed. Mohd Najib said a few weeks after that, the contractor called to borrow money, but he did not entertain this request. 'The contractor sent a reminder via message on Dec 22, asking me to settle the final payment of RM21,600 in order for him to finish the project.' He added that the contractor claimed that construction was progressing well. Upon a site inspection, however, the claimant found that the house was less than 50% completed and building progress was behind schedule. Having lost confidence in the contractor, the claimant refused to make the final payment. In February, Mohd Najib filed a case with Tribunal, demanding the contractor refund RM50,000 for failing to finish the project. The case was heard on March 20, 2025, before tribunal president Hafez Zalkapli who ordered both parties to hire registered quantity surveyors to assess the project's progress. 'It is necessary to hire a quantity surveyor as the RM50,000 claimed by the claimant is the maximum and we need an independent third party to evaluate the project,' Hafez had ordered. When the hearing resumed on May 14, the quantity surveyor report submitted by the claimant showed that the project was only 37% completed. The respondent asked the tribunal for more time to engage a quantity surveyor. Hafez rejected the respondent's request and ordered him to refund RM25,000 to the claimant within two weeks.
