Commenting on the Group's performance and business outlook, EKH Chairman Loay Jassim Al-Kharafi: 'I am pleased to report that we delivered solid fourth quarter results, capping off a strong year defined by remarkable growth and expansion across key business segments.'
'Despite navigating significant headwinds throughout 2024, including currency fluctuations, gas supply disruptions, and other operational challenges, our resilience and strategic foresight have enabled us to overcome these extraordinary operating conditions and emerge stronger, laying the foundation for sustainable growth and long-term success. Our year-end results highlight several encouraging trends, including recovering prices and volumes for our core products, highlighting the resilience of our portfolio companies.'
'We remain focused on our priorities of boosting foreign currency generation, growing export potential, and strengthening our financial position, while contributing to broader regional development. In line with this objective, EKH's first investment in Saudi Arabia is expected to commence commercial operations in the coming months. In addition, we are making solid progress on our investment pipeline and expect to make our first strategic investment beyond the MENA region this year, further expanding EKH's global footprint. These milestones reaffirm our commitment to managing currency exposure, expanding to high-growth markets, and diversifying our portfolio across sectors and geographies.'
'In keeping with our commitment to our shareholders, we are pleased to propose a distribution composed of both cash and stock dividends. Delivering sustainable returns to investors remains a core pillar of our strategy as we continue to balance shareholder distributions with reinvestments for future growth.'
'Looking ahead to 2025, we will continue to optimize our capital deployment and prioritize investments that align with our strategic objectives, to maximize returns for our stakeholders.'
Commenting on the Group's performance in FY 2024, EKH CEO, Jon Rokk: 'I am proud to share that despite a challenging year marked by macroeconomic headwinds and external pressures, EKH has demonstrated remarkable resilience and adaptability, delivering a robust set of results. This achievement is a testament to the dedication and hard work of our people across all levels of the Group, whose commitment and agility have enabled us to navigate uncertainty, capitalize on opportunities, and drive growth.'
'Our fourth quarter results demonstrate strong sequential growth, with revenues and net profit up 9% and 20% q-o-q, respectively. At AlexFert, revenue grew by 26% q-o-q in 4Q 2024, driven by export urea prices continuing along their upward trajectory, coupled with rising volumes, with its plant now operating at full capacity enabled by a stable natural gas supply. Similarly, NatEnergy's revenue grew by 15% q-o-q in 4Q 2024, while Kahraba's distribution volumes surged 62% y-o-y in 4Q 2024, driven by growth from the recently introduced concession zone at 10th of Ramadan. To support this growth, we are investing in a second substation within the concession area, enabling us to effectively meet future capacity needs. Meanwhile revenues at ONS grew by a stellar 32% y-o-y in 4Q 2024, a direct result of production commencing at our two recently drilled wells, Aton-1 and KSE2.'
'Building on this solid foundation, our upcoming projects will be key to advancing our regional and international expansion, supporting both growth and diversification.'
'As part of our continued progression, we will be undertaking a corporate rebrand and identity transformation in 2025. This will not just be a facelift – it will be a bold statement of evolution. EKH is entering into a new phase, one that reflects our ambitions, our growth, and our relentless drive to build an even more dynamic and future-focused enterprise.'
Fertilizers | AlexFert
AlexFert booked USD 59 million in revenues during 4Q 2024, reflecting a 26% growth q-o-q, supported by sustained improvement in urea export prices, as well as government interventions to ensure natural gas availability, enabling AlexFert to operate at full capacity beginning December. Gross profit and EBITDA margins expanded by 1pp and 2pp y-o-y, respectively, in 4Q 2024, reflecting reduced expenses and enhanced operational efficiency. Net profit came in at USD 29 million, reflecting a 5pp y-o-y expansion in the net profit margin to 49% in 4Q 2024.
In FY 2024, revenues recorded USD 213 million, impacted by natural gas availability, while gross profit and EBITDA margins remained strong at 36% and 44%, respectively, coupled with a 2pp y-o-y expansion in the company's bottom-line margin.
The company's outlook remains optimistic, supported by steady natural gas supply secured by way of recent government interventions and sustained recovery in export urea prices, which increased 8% q-o-q in 4Q 2024 to reach USD364/ton. Global urea prices continued their upward trajectory in 2025, averaging USD387/ton during January 2025.
Petrochemicals | Sprea Misr
Sprea Misr reported revenues of EGP 1.54 billion in 4Q 2024, reflecting increases of 50% y-o-y and 16% q-o-q, driven by higher volumes and price growth across key products. Gross profit stabilised at 32%, while EBITDA margin expanded to 31%. Net profit grew 92% y-o-y to EGP 546 million in 4Q 2024, with net profit margin expanding by 8pp y-o-y to 36%.

Sprea is ideally positioned to benefit from recovering local prices post-EGP devaluation as well as increased demand for Sulfonated Naphthalene Formaldehyde (SNF) due to the resumption and the expected pick up in construction activities in Egypt.
Utilities | NatEnergy
NatEnergy reported revenues of EGP 1.6 billion in 4Q 2024, marking a 46% y-o-y increase, primarily driven by Kahraba's growing electricity distribution businesses, in addition to the high-pressure steel pipeline executed by Fayum Gas. In 4Q 2024, sequential results witnessed both gross profit and EBITDA margins climb up by 6pp q-o-q to land at 30%, with net profit for the quarter growing 49% y-o-y to EGP 505 million.
In FY 2024, revenues grew 30% y-o-y to reach EGP 5.3 billion, while net profit grew 21% to EGP 1.8 billion.
Looking ahead, NatEnergy's outlook remains positive, benefiting from recently implemented increases in electricity tariffs, while management continues to focus on more profitable 'infill' clients to further enhance its profitability. Moreover, Kahraba is in the process of investing in a second substation in its 10th Ramadan concession area to support growing demand in the industrial zone.
Oil and gas | ONS
ONS reported revenues of USD 19 million in 4Q 2024, increasing 32% y-o-y and 25% q-o-q, driven by growing volumes owing to the commissioning of two new wells. Net profit for the quarter stood at USD 9 million, translating into a net profit margin of 47%, up 6pp y-o-y.
In FY 2024, ONS posted revenues of USD 62 million in FY 2024, up 7% y-o-y, while net profit totaled USD 31 million, yielding a solid net profit margin of 50%.
ONS is poised for growth, fueled by its recent expansions, including the commencement of production at Aton-1 and KSE2 within its expanded concession area, with the two new wells supporting sustained gas production rates at 55 MMSCFD until the end of 2026. Furthermore, ONS will capitalise on the 10-year extension of the Concession Agreement approved by the Egyptian General Petroleum Company's (EGPC) during the year.
NBFS & Diversified
In 4Q 2024, the Diversified segment reported attributable revenues of USD 25 million. Gross profit margin came in at 59%, up 4pp y-o-y and 10pp q-o-q, driven by the reassessment of insured asset values and premiums, as well as improved portfolio returns, supported by the high-interest rate environment.
Both Delta and Mohandes Insurance reported net profit growth of 72% and 27% y-o-y respectively in EGP terms during FY 2024.
Looking ahead, management is optimistic regarding the insurance sector's ability to sustain its positive trajectory, driven by continued upward revaluation of insured asset values and stable premium growth. Furthermore, Nilewood is advancing towards the production of its first MDF board, with commercial operations set to begin in 1H25.

Fed rate-cut drumbeat pegs back dollar; Asian stocks take a breather

SINGAPORE: The U.S. dollar was under pressure on Thursday as traders piled into wagers that the Federal Reserve will resume cutting interest rates next month, powering Bitcoin to a record high, while a blistering rally in regional stocks took a breather. MSCI's gauge of equities in Asia excluding Japan nudged higher and lingered near its loftiest level since September 2021, taking cues from Wall Street, where the S&P 500 and Nasdaq indexes hit new closing highs for the second straight day. The MSCI All Country World Index rose to a record high for the second straight session on Wednesday. Japan's Nikkei fell after a searing six-day rally that boosted it past the 43,000 mark for the first time. Shares in Korea and Taiwan were slightly lower as well. China's blue-chip stock index and shares in Hong Kong gained. The dollar fell to a two-week low against a basket of major peers on shifting expectations of U.S. rate cuts, with comments from the U.S. Treasury Secretary also helping bolster expectations of an outsized 50 basis point cut. The Japanese yen hit a three-week high of 146.38 per dollar in early trading. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said on Wednesday that an aggressive half-point cut was possible in September after revised labour market data from last week showed that job growth had slowed sharply in May, June and July. Goldman Sachs said on Wednesday in a research note it expects the U.S. Federal Reserve to deliver three 25-basis-point interest rate cuts this year and two more in 2026. Traders are pricing in certainty of a rate cut in September with odds of a 50 bps cut rising to 7%, up from 0% a week earlier. While a tame U.S. inflation report this week boosted the case for rate cuts, some analysts have cautioned against market complacency, saying that upcoming data may alter expectations. "We're not as convinced of a 25bp FOMC rate cut in September as financial markets, let alone a 50bp rate cut," said Carol Kong, economist and currency strategist at Commonwealth Bank of Australia. "There will be another CPI and payrolls report ahead of the September meeting that can make or break the case for a rate cut," Kong said. BITCOIN, GOLD Optimism on monetary policy easing in the world's largest economy also powered cryptocurrency bitcoin to an all-time high of $124,002.49 with analysts also pointing to recent financial sector reforms as a tailwind for the asset class. Bitcoin has risen 32% so far in 2025, and the second largest cryptocurrency, Ethereum, has climbed 41% and is hovering just shy of its all-time high hit in November 2021. In commodity markets, gold prices rose 0.5% to $3,371 and crude oil prices edged up after hitting a two-month low on Wednesday as investors kept their focus on the summit between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian leader Vladimir Putin on Friday. Trump on Wednesday threatened "severe consequences" if Putin did not agree to peace in Ukraine but also said that a meeting between them could swiftly be followed by a second one that would include Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy. In the past, Trump has said both sides will have to swap land to end fighting that has cost tens of thousands of lives and displaced millions. "While lack of progress towards a ceasefire may lead to renewed threats of secondary oil tariffs/sanctions, we see limited risk of large disruptions in Russia supply," analysts at Goldman Sachs wrote in a note. Large volumes of Russian exports, the possibility of deepening price discounts to maintain demand, and the likely eagerness of key buyers India, and especially China, to continue energy cooperation with Russia are expected to avert major disruptions, they said. Trump signed an executive order last week levying an additional 25% tariff on India's exports to the U.S., saying that the country directly or indirectly imported Russian oil. He has also hinted at similar tariffs on China.

Marketers react to American Eagle's Sydney Sweeney ad: Virality vs. value

If there's one topic that absolutely every marketer seems to have an opinion on at the moment – whether spoken out loud, or silently in coffee huddles, or not verbalised but constantly thought about – it's New York Stock Exchange-listed American Eagle Outfitters' Sydney Sweeney campaign. The discussions brought back the age-old debate about how marketing campaigns ought to be judged and measured – whether success is purely based on business outcomes, brand sentiment and brand lift studies, or its social impact and effectiveness in terms of moving the needle on purpose-led conversations? At the time of writing, American Eagle shares had climbed 17 per cent since the July 23 launch of the Sydney Sweeney ad campaign, raising the apparel retailer's stock to $12.58, marking a 23.94 per cent lift month on month and sending the brand's market capitalisation soaring to $2.2bn. However, data that drives past financial milestones shows a potential reputational and brand hit, with foot traffic falling 9 per cent year-on-year for the week of August 3 to August 9, a considerable drop considering a 4 per cent decline in foot traffic the previous week, according to data shared by retail market intelligence company pass_by. Although American Eagle's mention volume rose 18 times higher following the campaign launch, according to Signal AI data, its sentiment toward the brand plummeted from +50 to -31. Meanwhile, data and insights company Consumer Edge reported that traffic to American Eagle's US website bumped up more than 60 per cent on July 28, compared with the same day the previous year, closing off the first week of the campaign's launch on a high, although several other reports indicate that sales haven't risen considerably year on year, the brand has reportedly recorded more than $2mn in sales already. Campaign Middle East kept a close eye on how brand and marketing leaders in the region have reacted, sharing their opinions on various social media channels. Here's a brief compilation of some of their thoughts: Hubert Boulos, Founder of Das Kapital, said: (sic) 'Ok loads of interpretations, like ' is this the end of woke-ism?' etc.. in the end it's just a funny clever idea that built business beyond imagination: genes sound like Jeans , a celebrity and boom… sales through the roof ( it increased the market capitalization of the brand by 400 Million USD in one day!)That's why the algorithm hates advertising… it beats it anytime and it's not even close. This is clever and light yet it did wonders. Just imagine campaigns with a little bit more creativity and depth… Ideas do actually work!' Marwa Kaabour, Group Marketing and Corporate Communications Director, Al Masaood, said: 'We've seen this before. Brands chasing attention, not intention. Provocation over purpose. And it shows. Advertising can be funny. Yet, it can even be polarising. But it must, at the very least, be aware. Aware of timing. Aware of tone. Aware of the cultural moment we're all living in. Not this jeans, not for me, not for many. There's something profoundly unsettling about American Eagle's latest campaign featuring Sydney Sweeney — and no, it's not just the awkward wordplay. Let's forget the controversy for just a second. Strip it back to the core idea. Even then — it doesn't hold. It's not that the campaign is offensive by design. It's that it's creatively thin. A hollow concept dressed up in celebrity gloss. A tagline that leans on legacy ideals of beauty and genetics. And a moment of silence where cultural insight should've been.' Mazen Hayek, an advisor to senior officials and C-suite executives in the region, pointed out how American Eagle 'doubled down on its controversial ad campaign'. He said, 'American Eagle's ad featuring actress Sydney Sweeney has ignited a new brand-driven culture war about beauty standards, race and representation. While the campaign first went viral on social media, it also garnered coverage in roughly 3,000 news articles. Those generated more than 50 million readers, according to Memo readership data shared with Axios.' Fatima Shaikh, Director – Strategy, Content and Innovation – AI, Radix Media MENA, highlighted viewpoints of many others who sat on the fence, saying, 'For once, I don't seem to have an opinion. Not sure if it was good or bad. Well intended or cheeky. Smart or just bizarre.' Globally, Chelsea Burns, CEO, The Marketing Psychologist, shared, 'The campaign was engineered for outrage. Not resonance. Not representation. But reactivity. And that's exactly what happened. Over 200 million impressions in 48 hours. A dopamine spike for the brand. A cortisol crash for the audience. But here's the thing: 📉 Attention doesn't equal alignment. 📉 Nostalgia doesn't equal trust. 📉 And virality doesn't equal value.' Sharing a directly opposing viewpoint to 'virality doesn't equal value', Rhonda Swan, CEO, The Unstoppable Branding Agency, said, 'Virality beats vanilla. Was it controversial? Absolutely. Was it intentional? No question. Was it genius? 100 per cent. American Eagle didn't just drop a campaign … they dropped a cultural bomb. And it worked: ✅ $2M+ in sales ✅ Thousands of shares, stitches, and headlines ✅ Everyone talking…whether they loved it or hated it They didn't sell jeans. They sold attention. They sold a moment. They sold emotion …and the world clicked, commented and converted.' The jury's still out on whether the marketing world is going to reach a consensus. The sukuk, issued under Binghatti's USD 1.5 billion Trust Certificate Issuance Programme, was oversubscribed five times, attracting over USD 2.5 billion in orders from a diverse pool of regional and global investors. The issuance was priced with a profit rate of 8.125%, reflecting investor confidence in Binghatti's robust financial position. The company is rated BB- by Fitch and Ba3 by Moody's, both with stable outlooks. Founder Dr Hussain BinGhatti, Chairman Muhammad BinGhatti and Chief Executive Officer Katralnada BinGhatti, accompanied by other senior executives and lead arrangers, rang the opening bell at the London Stock Exchange to celebrate the listing. The Sukuk will also be listed on Nasdaq Dubai. Muhammad BinGhatti, Chairman of Binghatti Holding, commented: 'The listing of our sukuk on the London Stock Exchange is a clear signal of Binghatti's commitment to engaging proactively with global investors and operating at the highest standards of transparency and governance. The landmark sukuk issuance enjoyed strong international demand, allowing us to close the books ahead of schedule and reinforcing market confidence in our credit profile, operational resilience, and growth strategy. As we scale our business and diversify our development portfolio, access to deep, liquid, and global capital markets is central to our financial strategy. Today's listing marks another important step in broadening our investor base and strengthening our global footprint.' Katralnada BinGhatti, Chief Executive Officer of Binghatti Holding, commented: 'Binghatti's sukuk programme reflects our commitment to diversifying the company's funding base, extending our maturity profile, and efficiently deploying capital to capture emerging opportunities. The five-times oversubscription and strong demand from institutional investors across Europe, Asia, and the Middle East signal a clear endorsement of our vertically integrated business model. With close to 50% of allocations going to non-GCC investors, we are pleased to see growing global recognition of Binghatti's unique positioning in Dubai's real estate sector. As we grow our portfolio and redefine luxury living in Dubai, we will continue to maintain prudent leverage and strong corporate governance.' The successful issuance and the strong demand come on the back of Binghatti Holding's strong H1 2025 results. During the first half, the company's net profit more than tripled to AED 1.82 billion, driven by resilient demand for Dubai real estate. The Group's total sales reached AED 8.8 billion, with revenue climbing 189% YoY to AED 6.3 billion. The Group launched seven new projects and delivered five developments in H1 alone, handing over 15 projects in the last 18 months. Its AED 12.5 billion revenue backlog and over AED 70 billion development portfolio position it as one of Dubai's leading developers. Binghatti currently has approximately 20,000 units under development across 30 projects in prime Dubai locations including Downtown, Business Bay, Jumeirah Village Circle, and Meydan, as well as its flagship branded residences in collaboration with luxury partners Bugatti, Mercedes-Benz, and Jacob & Co. The company's development pipeline was further reinforced by the recent acquisition of approximately 9 million sq. ft. megaplot in Nad Al Sheba 1, which will host Binghatti's first master-planned community, with a projected development value of over AED 25 billion.
