Major auto repair chain to close 145 stores nationwide
Peter Fitzsimmons, Monro's president and CEO, said in a May 28 earnings report that the move comes after leadership identified four key areas of potential improvement.
'These include closing 145 underperforming stores, improving our customer experience and selling effectiveness, driving profitable customer acquisition and activation, and increasing merchandising productivity, including mitigating tariff risk,' according to Fitzsimmons, who was named CEO on March 31.
Fitzsimmons, partner and managing director of global consulting firm AlixPartners, replaced the former CEO Mike Broderick.
The announcement comes after the Fairport, New York-based company reported that fourth quarter sales had fallen 4.9% to $295 million.
Monro has more than 1,250 auto repair shops and tire dealers across 32 states, according to the company website. Along with its auto service and tire centers, Monro's brands consist of: Tire Barn Warehouse, Tire Warehouse, Ken Towery's Tire & AutoCare, Allen Tire Company, Monro Commercial Solutions, Car-X Tire and Auto, Tire Choice Auto Service Centers, Free Service Tire Company, Inc., Mountain View Tire & Auto Service, Skip's Tire, Lloyd's Tire, Calabasas Car Care and Bud's Tires.
Monro did not identify which locations are slated for closure. Nexstar has reached out for additional information.

Hedge Fund Schonfeld's Millennial Boss Drags It Back From the Brink
In an industry still ruled over by men of advanced middle age, and often much older, Ryan Tolkin's relative youth has always stood out. But when the 38-year-old boss of Schonfeld Strategic Advisors took to the stage at the New York hedge fund's investor day in May, his words could have come from the mouth of any of his more seasoned rivals. 'You're never as good as your best day, and never as bad as your worst,' he told the audience.

Shane van Gisbergen Just Won on Another NASCAR Road Course, First Rookie to Win Four Races
An eventful weekend at Watkins Glen ended in what feels like the inevitable for the field in the 2025 NASCAR Cup season, with Shane van Gisbergen dominating on a road course race to take his fourth victory of the year. Ryan Blaney shocked the field on Saturday when he beat NASCAR's new road course mechanic to the pole by 0.033 seconds. He would go on to thrive in clean air and take advantage of it to win the first two stages. In the second stage, Shane van Gisbergen passed Blaney for third before the duo went after the RFK teammates of Christopher Buescher and Ryan Preece, who stayed out on old tires. van Gisbergen would pit before the end of the stage, with Blaney electing to stay out and grab a second playoff point for the day. The New Zealand-born rookie ran from 12th to the lead in the final stage before being the last of the leaders to pit, giving up a 19-second lead and coming out 13th. van Gisbergen would cycle back to the lead with last week's winner, William Byron, behind. Byron grew frustrated with van Gisbergen, who stayed right in front of the Hendrick driver as he lay in wait for the 12 cars ahead of him to pit, wasting Byron's tires and burning his fuel to keep him from making a move once they cycled to the lead. Keselowski was the last to pit with 16 laps to go, and van Gisbergen moved to the lead, already two seconds ahead of Byron. Buescher took second from Byron with nine laps remaining, hoping to set up for a repeat of last year, where Buescher beat Shane van Gisbergen to become the first heel of the NASCAR Playoffs, when Watkins Glen was run at a later fall date. Buescher never had the chance to pressure van Gisbergen and in the final laps was also passed by Christopher Bell, who is the only other road course winner this year with his win at COTA. The Cup Rookie moved out to an 11.1-second lead over Bell for his fourth win of the season. Shane van Gisbergen remains NASCAR's king of the road with win at Watkins Glen
WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. (AP) — Shane van Gisbergen continued his march into NASCAR history Sunday and set a Cup Series record with his fourth victory this season, blowing out the competition again at Watkins Glen International. The Trackhouse Racing driver joined 2020 champion Chase Elliott and NASCAR Hall of Famer Jeff Gordon as the only drivers to win four consecutive Cup races on road or street courses. Unlike his prior wins at Mexico City, Chicago and Sonoma, van Gisbergen was unable to qualify from the pole position after he was nipped by Ryan Blaney. The Auckland, New Zealand, native bided his team after starting second, taking his first lead on Lap 25 of 90 and then settling into a typically flawless and smooth rhythm on the 2.45-mile road course. The rookie made his final pit stop with 27 laps remaining and cycled into first place on Lap 74 of a clean race with only three yellow flags. Cruising to a big lead while leading the final 17 laps, van Gisbergen beat Christopher Bell by 11.116 seconds. Chris Buescher finished third, followed by William Byron and Chase Briscoe. With five victories in only 38 career starts in NASCAR's premier series, van Gisbergen trails only Elliott (seven wins) and Kyle Larson (six) among active drivers on street or road courses. The win validated the decision by Trackhouse to sign van Gisbergen to a multiyear contract extension last week. Feisty Gibbs It was another frustrating race for Ty Gibbs, who spun John Hunter Nemechek late in Stage 2 and then complained about the handling and strategy of his No. 54 Toyota. Joe Gibbs Racing competition director Chris Gabehart, who recently began working as a strategist and consultant to Gibbs' team, radioed the driver to 'stay in the game' after the Nemechek wreck and later took issue after Gibbs questioned his team's strategy. 'I'm sure you've got a real good understanding from inside the car,' Gabehart told Gibbs on the radio. 'So you can call the strategy if you want, or we can keep rolling.' Gibbs, the grandson of team owner Joe Gibbs, finished 33rd and remained winless since moving into Cup after winning the 2022 Xfinity Series championship. Teammates Chase Briscoe, Denny Hamlin and Christopher Bell each have qualified for the playoffs with victories this season. Up next The Cup Series will race Saturday, Aug. 16 at Richmond Raceway, which will play host to its only NASCAR race weekend this season. The 0.75-mile oval had two annual races on the Cup schedule from 1959-2024. ___ AP auto racing:
