NSE MD Ashish Kumar Chauhan meets Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman
New Delhi [India], May 21 (ANI): Managing Director and CEO of the National Stock Exchange of India (NSE) Ashish Kumar Chauhan on Wednesday met the Union Finance Minister and committed to supporting Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Viksit Bharat 2047 vision.
Posting on X, NSE MD and CEO Chauhan thanked the finance minister for the meeting and vowed to be an enabler and contributor to the government's mission.
'Thank you for your time Hon'ble FM @nsitharaman ma'am. Your steadfast leadership, resolve and commitment unto Viksit Bharat 2047 under PM @narendramodi ji inspires us all. We @NSEIndia are resolute to be an enabler and contributor to your vision and mission,' Chauhan wrote on X.
It was not immediately known what they might have discussed during the meeting.
Last week, the NSE reached a significant milestone: It became the largest unlisted company in India with over 1 lakh shareholders. This achievement reflects strong investor interest and confidence in the exchange's role in India's financial ecosystem.
NSE reported a 17% YoY increase in consolidated total income, reaching Rs 19,177 crore in FY25. The exchange's net profit rose by 47% to Rs 12,188 crore in FY25.
NSE contributed Rs 59,798 crore to the Indian exchequer through various levies, including STT, stamp duty, SEBI fees, income tax, and GST.
Separately, NSE is awaiting the SEBI clearance of its much-awaited IPO. NSE's IPO papers are under review.
Market regulator SEBI had flagged key issues, which include the high compensation given to key managerial personnel, technology, and ownership in the clearing corporation.
SEBI recently disposed of proceedings against the NSE in various pending cases against its former officials in the co-location case. This was seen as the end of the block for the much-awaited Initial Public Offer (IPO) of the leading exchange.
In late 2016, NSE filed the draft red herring prospectus for its Initial Public Offer (IPO), with the market regulator SEBI, looking to raise reportedly then Rs 10,000 crore. However, the plans did not go through because of various issues flagged by the market regulator and a pending co-location case against NSE's former officials.
BSE, a competitor of NSE, was listed in 2017 and became India's first listed stock exchange. (ANI)

Rahul Rupani, a product leader at Lenskart, highlighted the story of the autorickshaw driver who's built a thriving business without driving his vehicle. Notably, hundreds of visa applicants visit the US Consulate daily, only to find out that bags aren't allowed inside. With no official storage options nearby, they often face uncertainty and anxiety about where to leave their belongings. Seizing this opportunity, the autorickshaw driver started a paid bag storage service. He caters to around 20-30 customers daily, earning Rs 20,000-30,000, which translates to a monthly income comparable to that of high-level corporate professionals. In a post on LinkedIn, Mr Rupai explained the auto driver's business model: "I was outside the US Consulate this week for my visa appointment, when security told me I couldn't carry my bag inside. No lockers. No suggestions. Just: "Figure it out." While I stood clueless on the footpath, an auto driver waved at me: "Sir, bag de do. Safe rakhunga, mera roz ka hai. ₹1,000 charge hai." I hesitated. Then gave in. And that's when I discovered this guy's brilliant business." See the post here: To accommodate the volume of bags, the autorickshaw driver has partnered with a local police officer who owns a nearby locker facility. The officer provides secure storage space, allowing the driver to safely store the bags, as his autorickshaw isn't equipped to hold them all. "And while most people are sweating over US visa interviews, this guy is running a zero-mile, hyper-profitable, bootstrapped operation. No MBA. No startup jargon. Just pure hustle and street-smart product-market fit," Mr Rupani wrote. He further called it "a masterclass in solving a hyper-specific pain point," admiring the driver's ability to build trust, ensure security, and charge a premium without relying on apps, funding, or formal business education. He praised the driver's resourcefulness, saying, "Real entrepreneurship doesn't always need a pitch deck. Sometimes it just needs a parking spot." NDTV is unable to confirm the authenticity of the post and the claims presented. While some users were impressed, others raised doubts and questions, seeking more information or clarification about the driver's business venture. One user wrote, "That's not his income alone. He has to share with multiple people, including the police. Otherwise, what stops other autowallahs from doing the same at a lower price? Also, I guess they don't know that there is s locker facility inside the consulate at a charge of 500."

At Indore event, MP minister Kailash Vijayvargiya stirs row — ‘Don't like women wearing skimpy clothes'
Madhya Pradesh Cabinet Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya has stirred up the hornet's nest yet again. At a recent public event held in Indore, Vijayvargiya said he didn't 'like girls who wear skimpy clothes'. In a speech he made at the event, Vijayvargiya, a senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Madhya Pradesh's minister for urban development and parliamentary affairs, drew comparisons between Indian and Western culture, saying: 'Here in India, we consider a girl beautiful when she dresses well, wears jewellery, and adorns herself gracefully. In the West, a woman wearing fewer clothes is considered beautiful. I don't agree with that'. Continuing his comparison, he said: 'There's a saying in Western countries that a woman who wears fewer clothes is considered very beautiful, just as a leader who speaks less is considered good. But I don't believe in that. I believe a woman is a form of the goddess. She should wear nice clothes. I don't find women in revealing clothes attractive'. This is not the first time Vijayvargiya has made comments on women's clothing. While attending a Hanuman Jayanti event in Indore in 2023, he remarked: 'I won't lie on Hanuman Jayanti… but girls these days wear such filthy clothes… We call women goddesses, but they don't appear that way… They look like Shurpanakha (a demoness from Hindu mythology). God has given you a beautiful body, at least wear decent clothes. Teach your children values'.
