Polluting industries within Hyderabad ORR to be relocated beyond city limits: Dy CM
On Saturday, the minister chaired a Cabinet subcommittee meeting on revenue resource mobilisation at the Secretariat. Ministers and committee members N Uttam Kumar Reddy, D Sridhar Babu and Jupally Krishna Rao were present.
The committee instructed officials to formulate clear guidelines and a relocation calendar, including a final deadline for shifting the industries. It also reviewed the status of housing units under various stages of the Rajiv Swagruha Scheme and vacant plots under the Housing Board.
Officials were directed to ensure that the ongoing public auction process by the Housing Board is conducted transparently. The committee emphasised that the Housing Board must prioritise affordable housing for the common people and the middle class.
Reports on revenue growth achieved in the past month were also presented. The Commercial Taxes department reported a 1.8% increase, the Stamps and Registrations department recorded a 3.6% rise, and the Mines department reported a 7% growth in revenue.
Chief Secretary Ramakrishna Rao, Principal Secretary of Finance Sandeep Kumar Sultania, Special Chief Secretary of Industries Sanjay Kumar, Principal Secretary of Mines Sridhar, MAUD Secretary Ilambarthi, HMDA Commissioner Sarfaraz, Mines Commissioner Shashank, District Collectors Harichandan and Narayana Reddy, and TGTDC MD Valluru Kranti were among those present at the meeting.

HYDERABAD: Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka on Saturday said Telangana should aim to become the first state in India to fully integrate Artificial Intelligence (AI) into governance. He said training should be provided at all levels—from Principal Secretaries to village officials. The deputy chief minister made these comments while chairing a meeting of the sub-committee of the Board of Governors of the Marri Channa Reddy Human Resource Development Institute (MCRHRD). He said the state government would support efforts to develop MCRHRD into the country's leading training institute. 'The institute occupies 30 acres and is headed by a former chief secretary. Staff and officials must make full use of its services. It should also work towards self-sufficiency and financial growth,' Vikramarka said. He proposed two-day training programmes at district and mandal levels for leaders of Self-Help Groups (SHGs), aimed at supporting their economic development. He also said that MCRHRD had been neglected over the past decade and promised that the Sub-Committee would meet every six months to assess progress. The finance minister suggested that the institute should be equipped to keep pace with global technological developments. IT and Industries Minister D Sridhar Babu recommended issuing certificates to officials completing AI-related training. He also said college principals should be trained on steps needed to obtain NAAC accreditation, which could improve their eligibility for central government funding. Ministers Komatireddy Venkat Reddy and Ponnam Prabhakar, Director General and Vice-Chairperson Santhi Kumari and other officials attended.

Bhopal: The city's plan to transform its sporting infrastructure has a dual focus for now— to create 'world-class' facilities to nurture talent and to host prestigious competitions in its backyard. A new international level rowing facility is planned at Upper Lake, and the housing board is developing a sports complex on 17 acres, allocating 200 crores for the project in question. The city currently features notable sports facilities, including a SAI Centre, four prominent hockey stadiums, Faith Cricket Stadium, Shrewsbury Cricket Stadium equipped with floodlights, and Tatya Tope Stadium equipped with modern athletic track and football ground and other games. An international-grade rowing centre will be established in the Upper Lake area of Khanugaon, following the chief minister initial approval. The planned facility, with an estimated cost of 7-8 crores, will be built on 5500 square feet of land. It will include a gymnasium, administrative offices, storage for 100 boats, and other facilities. Building work is expected to begin within a month of receiving official approval. The venue will serve as a training facility for athletes and host national and international events. The organisers plan to commence hosting competitions at this location by 2026. "We will be able to start the process of building the centre as soon as we get the permission. Our plan is to organise competitions here from 2026," says deputy director, sports department, B S Yadav on the project. The MP housing board has announced plans for a substantial sports complex in Ayodhya Nagar. The sanctioned project will utilise 17 acres of former quarry land, where presently only a section is available for children's play activities. The Housing Board aims to transform this space into a comprehensive sports facility. "We will soon issue a tender for the appointment of an architect for this project. A plan is being worked out to develop facilities for all major sports here, including a cricket ground, swimming pool, and badminton court," said Rahul Haridas Fating, commissioner, housing board. The Ayodhya Nagar sports complex project represents a remarkable transformation of previously unused quarry land. Sri Lanka to extend its visa-free travel policy for 40 countries; India also on the list
In a bid to boost tourism and recover from an economic crisis, Sri Lanka has announced plans to extend its free tourist visa policy to 40 additional countries, according to a news shared by PTI. The news was confirmed by Sri Lanka's Foreign Affairs and Tourism Minister Vijitha Herath during the inauguration of the 'Hotel Show Colombo 2025'. As of now, there were only seven countries, including India which were allowed visa-free entry in Sri Lanka. The decision comes after the cabinet approved to expand the list to 40 countries. However, the Government of Sri Lanka will have to suffer an annual revenue loss of USD 66 million because of visa fee waiver, mentioned the minister. But he also said that indirect economic benefits from increased tourist footfall would be more than the loss. The initiative aims to boost tourism as part of Sri Lanka's economic recovery following the COVID-19 pandemic and the 2022 financial crisis. 'We have stabilised the economy, and through policy changes in tourism, we aim to ensure steady growth in arrivals,' the minister said.
