Zelenskyy gifts Trump golf club belonging to wounded Ukrainian soldier

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy sought to underscore solidarity with Washington this week by presenting US President Donald Trump with a golf club once owned by a wounded Ukrainian serviceman, his office confirmed Tuesday.
Trump, a longtime golf enthusiast with several courses in his business portfolio, accepted the gift and in turn handed Zelenskyy symbolic keys to the White House. The exchange, according to Kyiv, reflected a markedly warmer tone compared to the leaders' strained meeting earlier this year.
Back in February, Zelenskyy cut short a visit to Washington after a heated argument with Trump and Vice President JD Vance was broadcast live. Since then, the Ukrainian leader has worked to mend relations, often praising Trump's role in promoting peace efforts.
'The president of Ukraine presented the president of the United States with a golf club,' Zelenskyy's office said in its Tuesday statement.
The club once belonged to Kostiantyn Kartavtsev, a Ukrainian soldier who 'had lost a leg in the first months of Russia's full-scale invasion while saving his brothers-in-arms,' according to the statement. Zelenskyy also showed Trump a video message from Kartavtsev.
Later that day, the veterans' group United by Golf shared footage of Trump holding the club and addressing Kartavtsev directly.
'I just watched your swing. I know a lot about golf and your swing is great,' Trump said. 'You're an amazing person, and you just keep playing golf and doing all of the other things. Your country is a great country. We're trying to bring it back to health.'
Zelenskyy also delivered a personal note to Melania Trump from Ukraine's First Lady, Olena Zelenska, who thanked her American counterpart for appealing to Russian President Vladimir Putin to safeguard children's lives.
The gesture follows a series of symbolic gifts foreign leaders have offered Trump during White House visits. In February, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer presented him with an invitation to the UK, accompanied by a letter from King Charles III.

Jordan, Russia announce visa-free travel for citizens

Jordan and Russia have agreed to abolish visa requirements for citizens of both countries, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ayman Safadi announced Wednesday in Moscow. Safadi added that Jordan is continuing to work on expanding cooperation with Russia in various sectors. In a press conference following the agreement's signing, Sfadi reaffirmed that Jordan supports Egyptian, Qatari, and American efforts to stop the war in Gaza. He called on the international community to pressure the 'Israeli' government to end its aggression on the strip. Safadi also stated that 'Israeli' Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is leading a project that is destructive to regional stability and peace and is rejecting a Palestinian state. The two ministers also discussed developing bilateral relations, increasing cooperation, and addressing tense regional situations.

Majority of Americans support UN recognition of Palestine: poll

A new Reuters/Ipsos poll reveals that a 58% majority of Americans believe every country in the United Nations should recognize Palestine as a nation. The survey, which concluded on Monday, found that 33% of respondents disagreed, while 9% did not have an opinion. The findings come as US allies such as Britain, Canada, and France have signaled their intent to recognize a Palestinian state. The poll's results also indicate a broader shift in American sentiment regarding the conflict. A significant portion of respondents, 59%, said they believe 'Israel's' military response in Gaza has been excessive, an increase from 53% in a similar poll conducted in February. This support for Palestinian statehood appears to be part of a broader trend of declining American sympathy for 'Israel', particularly among key demographic groups. A recent Gallup poll found that approval of 'Israel's' military actions has fallen to a record low of just 8% among Democrats, while it stands at 25% for Independents. This contrasts sharply with Republicans, whose approval has remained stable at 71%. A similar generational divide exists, with only 9% of Americans aged 18 to 34 approving of 'Israel's' military actions in Gaza, compared to 47% of those 55 and older. The White House has previously stated that recognizing a Palestinian state would be a "reward for Hamas". The poll which surveyed 4,446 US adults nationwide has a margin of error of approximately 2 percentage points.

The White House just joined TikTok

Ammon News - While it was President Joe Biden who signed the law that would force ByteDance to sell its stake in TikTok or face a ban, it's his successor, Donald Trump, who has yet to fulfill his promise of arranging a deal to keep TikTok running, legally, in the United States. The current deadline for a deal is September 17th. Still, it hasn't stopped Trump's administration from creating @WhiteHouse on TikTok, which published its first post on Tuesday night: a video celebrating Trump's accomplishments. The ban has only seen TikTok shut down in the US for one day, and its impact has been delayed three times. The first time was in January, when Trump took office and signed an executive order delaying enforcement of the ban for 75 days; then there was another delay in April, after a potential deal fell through due to Trump's harsh tariffs against China, and then in June, when he stated that he believed Chinese President Xi Jinping was open to a deal if a buyer emerged. While Trump tried to ban TikTok in 2020, his stance softened during his re-election campaign once his team learned how many supporters Trump had on the platform. In 2024, the Trump campaign launched its own official account, @TeamTrump, and quickly dominated the platform, getting more followers and views on their content than former Vice President Kamala Harris's now-dormant campaign account — 2.8 billion to 2.2 billion, according to journalist Kyle Tharp. A Republican digital operative close to the campaign heavily credited Trump, a former reality TV star, for his ability to generate attention-grabbing moments that could be transformed into viral content. 'TikTok is primarily an entertainment app,' he previously told The Verge, 'and our usage of it was just significantly more savvy than [the Democrats].' Although the legality of and ulterior motives behind a TikTok ban remain a serious question, the Trump administration, for now, appears to find utility in maintaining an account on the platform. 'Why would I want to get rid of TikTok?' Trump said on Truth Social in January, sharing a post about the billions of views his campaign account continued to rack up. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt repeated this stance after the government account was launched. 'President Trump's message dominated TikTok during his presidential campaign,' she said in a statement to The Verge, 'and we're excited to build upon those successes and communicate in a way no other administration has before.'
