The Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office (APSO) says Kayla Jones, 33, is charged with felony theft of $5,000 but less than $25,000.

The investigation is ongoing.
Ascension Public Schools released the following statement:
'We have zero tolerance for any form of misconduct or financial mismanagement within our school system. 75 homeless camps in DC cleared by US Park Police since Trump's ‘Safe and Beautiful' executive order

Federal officials have cleared about 75 homeless camps around the nation's capital under President Trump's effort to clean up Washington, DC — and they're not done yet. United States Park Police have removed dozens of tents since the president penned the 'Making the District of Columbia Safe and Beautiful' executive order in March, the Department of the Interior told The Post Friday. Authorities have also scrubbed up to 80 graffiti sites from Capitol Hill Parks as of Aug. 6, Interior officials said. 7 Federal officials have made an effort to get rid of homeless camps across Washington, D.C. DOI 'President Trump signed the order to Make D.C. Safe and Beautiful in March, and our dedicated U.S. Park Police have been working around the clock since to enforce this directive, clean up our streets, and ensure our nation's capital is safe,' Interior deputy press secretary Aubrie Spady revealed. Exclusive photos obtained by The Post show homeless tents scattered across different parts of DC before they were removed by authorities. Interior leaders, led by Secretary Doug Burgum, are revising guidelines so there is a no-tolerance policy for illegal camping on National Park Service property in Washington, including no longer handing out warnings before vagrants are pushed off the public spaces. 7 The United States Park Police has removed 75 homeless camps near the nation's capital. DOI The feds will also crack down on vandals who spray graffiti or cause damage to federal monuments, statues or buildings. 7 Officials also reported that up to 80 graffiti sites from Capitol Hill Parks have been cleaned up. DOI The Department of Justice will pursue maximum fines of $100,000 and up to a year in prison for offenders convicted of causing less than $1,000 in damage, according to the Interior. US Park Police will also be allowed to pursue suspected criminals who are fleeing under certain situations. 7 The latest cleanup effort comes after President Trump's latest agenda to stop the spread of violent crime across the nation's capital. DOI 7 Secretary Doug Burgum, in a press conference, said the Trump administration is allowing them to enforce the law, while under President Biden, federal property was filled with homeless camps. AP The cleanup comes as the Trump administration started tackling crime in DC this week, including giving homeless people the chance to enter a shelter with the threat of jail if they refuse. 'They are so pleased, the rank-and-file [Parks police officers] that President Trump is allowing them to enforce the law,' said Burgum, during a Monday press conference with Trump and other cabinet leaders. 7 Trump recently sent in the National Guard to the city to address the ongoing crime. Getty Images 7 City officials have sued Trump for his 'unlawful' takeover of the police department, and that he is abusing his authority as commander in chief. Getty Images He said that while Joe Biden was in the White House, federal property was littered with homeless camps. 'They continue to do a great job whether it's in their vehicles, on foot or on the mounted police that you see around the National Mall,' Burgum added. Trump went ahead with federal control of the DC Metropolitan Police Department Monday while sending in the National Guard and federal agents to address safety problems that have long plagued the city. But city officials sued over Trump's 'unlawful' takeover of the police department Friday, claiming the commander in chief is exceeding his legal powers.

False Flags, Fake Flags: Propaganda Muddles the Trump-Putin Meeting

The meeting in Alaska between President Trump and President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia has spawned a miasma of propaganda and disinformation, online trolling and unhinged conspiracy theories. Russia's Defense Ministry warned this week, without evidence, that Ukraine was planning to stage a false attack on its own soil for the benefit of 'Western reporters' and blame it on the Russians in an effort to disrupt the talks. The claim, posted in English by the Foreign Ministry on X, spread widely in Russian media and online, according to Alliance4Europe, an organization that tracks disinformation. (A Russian drone did strike Sumy, in northeastern Ukraine on Friday, according to Ukrainian reports, but the attack did not cause the 'large number of casualties' the Defense Ministry claimed would happen in a provocation.) False claims by Russia about the war have become routine, but in the United States, a website with a history of spreading disinformation also echoed Russian efforts to disparage Ukraine ahead of Friday's meeting by fabricating the foiling of an assassination plot. The website claimed on Tuesday that the United States Army's 10th Special Forces Group had killed a would-be Ukrainian assassin in Wasilla, a town north of Anchorage, according to NewsGuard, a company that tracks disinformation online. No such killing took place, but the conspiratorial theme spread across social media platforms including X, Instagram, Substack and Rumble, NewsGuard said. One post on X from a user that previously promoted the QAnon conspiracy claimed there were two assassins who intended to kill 'both Trump and Putin.' Want all of The Times? Subscribe.

Special Attorney Ed Martin checks out Tish James' ‘mortgage fraud' home

Department of Justice Special Attorney Ed Martin was spotted in Brooklyn Friday inspecting Tish James' multi-family residential property that is at the center of a federal mortgage fraud investigation. Martin, conspicuous in a beige trench coat, visited the Clinton Hill brownstone a week after being appointed by Attorney General Pam Bondi to run parallel mortgage fraud probes into the New York attorney general and her fellow Trump-deranged Democrat, California Sen. Adam Schiff. Grand juries in Virginia and Maryland are currently weighing criminal indictments for James and Schiff respectively over allegations they falsified property records to secure favorable loan terms. 3 Department of Justice Special Attorney Ed Martin was seen at the Clinton Hill section in Brooklyn, NY, inspecting the home of New York Attorney General Letitia James. Gregory P. Mango James' Brooklyn property at 296 Lafayette Avenue is classified as a five-unit dwelling, but James is alleged to have misrepresented the building on mortgage applications, building permits, and filings for government assistance as having only four units. The alleged misclassification allowed her to qualify for loans with better interest rates and lower down payments through Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, which are only available for properties with four or fewer residential units. Every week, Post columnist Miranda Devine sits down for exclusive and candid conversations with the most influential disruptors in Washington. Subscribe here! At the time Martin was inspecting the property on Friday afternoon, there was one doorbell visible at the main entrance and an additional four door bells at a side entrance, with weathered labels signifying '1 Floor,' '2 Floor,' '3A,' and '3B.' A neighbor confronted Martin and an unidentified colleague as they were standing out the front of the property and asked them what they were doing. You're here because of who lives here. It's my neighborhood. It's my block. I have a right to know what you guys are doing.' Martin replied: 'I'm just happy to be on a block looking at houses . . . I'm just looking at houses, interesting houses. It's an important house.' 3 James' property located at 296 Lafayette Avenue is classified as a five-unit complex, but James allegedly misclassified the unit on mortgage applications, claiming the building only had four units. New York Post 'It's not,' retorted the neighbor. 'It's just like every other tract house on this block that was built by developers.' 'They're beautiful, beautiful neighborhood,' Martin told her, before walking away. The investigation into James' real estate holdings began in April when Federal Housing Finance Agency Director Bill Pulte sent a criminal referral to the Justice Department. Pulte alleged James may have 'falsified bank documents and property records to acquire government backed assistance and loans and more favorable loan terms' by claiming a Norfolk, Virginia, home she bought in 2023 would be her 'principal residence' while acting as New York AG, and that the property she owns in Brooklyn was her second residence. 3 The misfilings have led James to be granted loans with better interest rates and lower down payments. New York Post The case also includes allegations that James and her father signed mortgage papers listing themselves as 'husband and wife' to meet lending rules. Both James and Schiff deny any wrongdoing. 'Bill Pulte and his FHFA team got this started with his criminal referral,' Martin said last week. 'And as Tish James and Adam Schiff always say: 'Nobody is above the law.' ' Special attorneys are empowered to conduct criminal proceedings, including grand jury investigations and prosecutions, usually in sensitive or high-profile cases, and can operate outside the district where the case is pending.
