When Amitabh Bachchan described ‘frightening' experience of his fame ‘withering away': ‘You go unnoticed, autograph books are snatched…'
'As you slide down on the wrong side of the hill, the few left with sincere affection, have a condescending look. The spark of instant excitement has mellowed down. You go unnoticed on occasion. If at all there is notice it is a notice with silence and a smile that has some difficulty coming on. Your autograph book could get snatched away in the middle of your signature if the younger heartthrob were to suddenly appear at same location. The hustle and bustle around you would shift there. From being the eye of all attention you are left with just an 'I'.' It was a candid admission from someone who had once commanded the nation's undivided attention. He further wrote: 'You wither away. You are out of sight and out of most minds.' The blog also reflected on the psychological toll of this transition, and the varying ways artists deal with the end of mass adoration. 'Some cleverly become the circumstances. And some, sadly never contend with the change. They believe and live in that glory forever. It requires strength and conviction and character to do that.'
This personal reckoning came not just with fading stardom, but under the weight of a financial collapse. By the late 1990s, Amitabh was grappling with major debt. His production company, Amitabh Bachchan Corporation Ltd. (ABCL), had failed, and the actor found himself in the midst of mounting legal disputes. The reported liabilities stood at Rs 90 crore. He later described the experience as humiliating, with creditors constantly at his door and his assets under threat. During this period, his son Abhishek Bachchan, then studying at Boston University, decided to return home. In a recent interview with Ranveer Allahbadia, Abhishek recalled: 'Truth be told, I left university. I was studying in Boston University… I left my education because my father was going through this really rough time, financially. He had started this business called ABCL.'

The family made difficult decisions. Properties in Mumbai, including their Juhu home, were considered for sale. Amitabhh reportedly walked to filmmaker Yash Chopra's house because he couldn't afford a driver. He refused financial assistance, insisting on earning his way back. That conversation with Chopra led to a role in Mohabbatein. Shortly after, he was cast as the host of Kaun Banega Crorepati, a move that would prove pivotal in reviving his public image and career.
Yet even with the return of work and recognition, the experience left a mark. In his blog, Amitabh described the hunger for public attention in stark terms: 'Attention is an elixir. When it is not available you shrink. A desolate traveller in search of that oasis in a turbid desert. But you never find it. An inviting mirage keeps beckoning. Only to disappoint. And then you perish.'

Box Office: Brad Pitt's F1 scores an excellent trend at the Indian box office in week one; Shows NO DROP from Monday to Thursday
The Brad Pitt led F1 has shown a fantastic trend at the box office in India, as the film refused to show any drop in collections on the weekdays. After scoring Rs 20.75 crore over the opening weekend, F1 collected Rs 3.25 crore on Monday, followed by Rs 3.50 crore each on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. With this, the 7-day total of the Brad Pitt starrer stands at Rs 34.50 crore, and the film will be aiming to hit a half century at the Indian box office much before the end of second week. F1 is scoring phenomenal occupancies at the IMAX properties, which have contributed 30 percent to the total business, and it is holding on to all the premium screens in the second week too. Interestingly, there is a drop in showcasing outside the IMAX format in India owing to competition from another Hollywood film, Jurassic World: Rebirth and a Hindi film in the form of Metro In Dino. In an ideal world, the film should have held better showcasing in week two, but internal politics of national chains have resulted in a drop in showcasing, but there the film is certain to get back a large chunk of shows over the weekend due to demand from the audiences. The film should be looking to hold itself above the Rs 3 crore mark on Friday, and then show a surge to Rs 5 crore each on Saturday and Sunday. F1 is a Bonafide HIT in India, and will now be aiming to attain the super hit tag, if it shows the same legs in week two and week three as well. These are excellent figures for a non-franchise/non IP film in India, and the trend indicates a vast acceptance from the cinema going audience. The film in all likelihood will show strong legs in the coming few weeks, and attempt to hit the Rs 70 crore mark by the end of its run in India. Here's a look at day wise box office collections of F1 in India Day Amount Friday Rs 5.50 crore Saturday Rs 7.25 crore Sunday Rs 8.00 crore Monday Rs 3.25 crore Tuesday Rs 3.50 crore Wednesday Rs 3.50 crore Thursday Rs 3.50 crore Week One Rs 34.50 crore

Director Suresha voices concern over social media influence on youth
Mysuru: Kannada film director B Suresha on Thursday expressed serious concern that excessive use of social media has caused not only distress among youths but also contributed to anxiety and low self-esteem. He was speaking after inaugurating a lecture on cinematography and photography organised by the department of Kannada and culture at Ravivarma School of Arts in the city. He said as India is gifted with a talented youth population, migrating to cities, towns, and other foreign countries in search of jobs and other greener pastures has raised a lot of hopes about their future. "Indian students were the highest in obtaining scholarships for students in the United Kingdom according to 2022-23 reports. On the other side, a grim situation like a large number of youths working for meagre Rs 400 daily wages exist in the country," he said. He also highlighted the importance of studying cinematography and photography as it helps reflect and mirror society, and also showcase India's vibrant life system in cinema. "As social media platforms exacerbate depression, youths exposed to cyberbullying and unrealistic portrayals of life, there is an urgent need to bring out youths nowadays from digital distress," he said. Theatre activist R Rashmi, Ravivarma School of Arts principal Shivakumar Kesaramadu, and senior cinematographer MR Manjunath were present.
