Funfair owner insists ride was tested just hours before teen suffered life-changing injuries after ‘getting hair caught'
The horror at Netley Marsh Steam and Craft Show near Southampton, saw the teen's hair caught in a ride.
Charles Cole, owner of the funfair, has now spoken out to say he sympathises with the 18-year-old.
He called the horror a "freak accident" and went on to insist his ride is 20 years old but it "had been tested that day."
The incident on Saturday prompted a large emergency response with the Health and Safety Executive becoming involved.
An 18-year-old girl was left with serious head injuries when her hair was caught in a ride at the funfair, she was raced to hospital and treated by medics.
The girl was taken away on a stretcher and fire crews reportedly had to cut away a section of the ride.
Mr Cole said that the walk-on ride had been subject to daily checks.
Speaking to the Daily Echo he added: "Approximately 50 people had been on the ride before the 18-year-old, and there were no issues.
'The ride is 20 years old but it had been tested that day. This was a freak accident.
'Somehow, the girl's hair got caught and she could not grab on to the handrails.
"Nobody wants to hurt anyone, and we are a family business. Last night was very upsetting, especially for the man who owns the ride.
'Safety is our priority, and we sympathise with the girl and her parents.
'It is under investigation and the ride is closed.'
The ride has now been closed for the duration of the event as the Health and Safety Executive probe the "freak accident."
A full inspection of the site was carried out on Monday.
A Hampshire Police spokesperson said: "We were called at 10.53pm on July 26 with reports that an 18-year-old woman had sustained potentially life-changing injuries to her head while on a ride at Netley Marsh Steam and Craft Show.
"She was taken to hospital for treatment.
" Police attended and have liaised with the Health and Safety Executive."
Meanwhile, the fair announced today: "Good morning from day three of the show."

Sheep dies ‘after being chased off cliff'
A sheep was killed when it was allegedly chased over a cliff edge in Cornwall, police have said. Members of the public confronted a man following the incident in Polly Joke, near Newquay, on July 27, according to Devon and Cornwall Police, who added that it was alleged the man reacted aggressively. In a statement, the force said: 'We know this incident has had a huge impact on the local community and we can't imagine why anyone would willingly chase or harm an innocent animal. 'Behaviour like this is unacceptable and we will continue to work alongside the investigating officers to bring the offender to justice. 'We believe there were a number of people who witnessed this incident who are yet to come forward but who may be able to assist us in our investigation. It was claimed on social media that Mr Haylett and his two teenage sons had chased the sheep, but while he admits he was there, he said another man was responsible. Children 'upset' by shouting man Mr Haylett said: 'Just to set things straight. Yes that is me in the picture that everyone has been sharing around and yes I was down in Cornwall. 'I went away for a week with my whole family to spread my grandma and grandad's ashes at their special place. 'We stopped at a few spots and took lots of beautiful pictures, there were lots of sheep running around the fields and below us.' Mr Haylett said his children became 'upset' because they thought the sheep were stuck, before a man came 'shouting and swearing', accusing his children of chasing the sheep. He said: 'This made the children even more upset! I told him to stop swearing at the children but he continued to shout and said 'How the f--- would you like it if I threw you off the cliff?' to which I replied, 'You would be going first.' Mr Haylett claimed that the man walked towards the single sheep on the edge, which made the sheep run and then slip. He said: 'I'm not sure if it fell down as we were further up and it's very dangerous along there, the man was still shouting so we walked off. 'There was another couple at the top of the path who both said that the man was out of order for shouting at the children and they weren't chasing the sheep.'

Stoke Newington murder victim named
The victim of a fatal shooting in north London has been named by police. A murder investigation was launched after Erdal Ozmen, 45, was killed in Stoke Newington, the Metropolitan Police said. He was found with gunshot injuries by officers who were called to an address in Dynevor Road on Tuesday at 12.18am. The father-of-one was 'deeply loved by his family' detectives said on Wednesday as they appealed for witnesses to help find his killer. Residents said they woke to the sounds of gunshots. Mr Ozmen was pronounced dead at the scene. Detectives say the motive for the murder remains unclear. No arrests have been made. Detective Chief Inspector Dave Whellams, who is leading the investigation, said: 'We continue to appeal for witnesses to come forward following the fatal shooting of Erdal. 'He was a father-of-one and was deeply loved by his family. 'Today, we are asking the public for assistance. Were you in the Dynevor Road area late on Monday night into early Tuesday morning? Did you see anyone acting out of the ordinary? 'Did you hear anything at all which perhaps seemed unusual – maybe people shouting, or a loud vehicle? 'The smallest piece of information could play a significant role in our investigation.' A post-mortem examination has not yet been carried out. Mr Ozmen's family are being supported by specialist officers. Liza Dodds, 58, a youth worker who lives opposite Dynevor Road, said: 'My husband woke up and said there was gunshots. The instant reaction was 'how do you know?' 'We both got up and had a look. A police officer was doing CPR where the person fell. It seemed like they were going forever.' Another resident said: 'I heard a few gunshots and the first thing I thought was that it was fireworks, because you don't expect it to be a gun. 'I was trying to sleep but then later I heard sirens from the police cars.' One resident, who asked to remain anonymous, said: 'We were out when it happened so we didn't hear or see anything. 'But when we came back at around 1am, the whole area was cordoned off and the police officers told us that it will be a crime scene for a couple of days.' Forensic officers in scrubs and masks were at the scene on Tuesday afternoon, alongside several police officers.
