Karnataka lowers SSLC pass marks to 33 per cent from 2025-26

Bengaluru, Jul 25 (PTI) The Karnataka government has issued a notification reducing the pass percentage for SSLC exam from 35 to 33, effective from the academic year 2025-26 The draft Karnataka Secondary Education Examination Board First Regulations (Amendment) 2025 was notified on Thursday.
'Candidates shall secure an average of 33 per cent marks in internal assessment and external examination combined and shall be declared pass if they secure at least 206 marks out of a total of 625 marks, including at least 30 per cent marks in each subject out of the total marks of the respective subject,' the notification issued by the Department of School Education & Literacy stated.
According to the notification, 15 days have been given to public to file objections to this new proposed rule. PTI AMP ROH

Telangana plans to implement focused welfare schemes for the underprivileged
HYDERABAD: Equipped with data from the Socio, Economic, Educational, Employment, Political and Caste Survey, the Telangana government is now planning to implement focused welfare schemes, particularly for communities that have largely remained underprivileged. Speaking to TNIE, sources revealed that caste-wise data on state government employees is also being collected to identify which communities have been underrepresented in government jobs. In March this year, the state government constituted an expert committee to conduct a detailed analysis of the data collected from the recently concluded caste survey with an objective of formulating inclusive and evidence-based policies for the welfare of all communities in the state. The government also plans to ease the work of those practising various caste-based occupations like dhobi, carpentry and pottery by providing latest technology-enabled machinery. Recently, the Telangana government announced wage incentives for handloom weavers under the Telangana Nethannaku Bharosa (assurance to weavers) scheme. A budget of Rs 48 crore was released for the initiative. Sources revealed that more such schemes are in the pipeline. The Telangana government passed two legislations — the Telangana Backward Classes, Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Reservation of Seats in Educational Institutions and of Appointments or Posts in Services under the State) Bill, 2025 and the Telangana Backward Classes (Reservation of Seats in Rural and Urban Local Bodies) Bill, 2025 — in the Assembly on March 17, 2025. As these two Bills remain under scrutiny by the Union Home Ministry, the state government has sent The Telangana Panchayat Raj (Amendment) Ordinance to Governor Jishnu Dev Varma. This ordinance aims to facilitate the enhancement of 42% reservations for BCs in local body elections. It is learnt that the Governor has sought the opinion of the Attorney General of India on the proposed Bill. Meanwhile, the Cabinet meeting, scheduled for Friday, was postponed as the Governor's nod for the Telangana Panchayat Raj (Amendment) Ordinance is still awaited. It appears that the government is firm on issuing 42% reservations to BCs in the local body elections, based on the caste survey data.

Agency: PTI Last Updated: Thiruvananthapuram, Jul 26 (PTI) The 26th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas was observed at Pangode Military Station on Saturday, with Kerala Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar paying tribute to the soldiers who died in the 1999 Kargil war. Arlekar, the chief guest, laid a wreath at the war memorial and interacted with veterans, according to a Defence release. 'Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar visited the Pangode Military Station in Thiruvananthapuram on the occasion of Kargil Vijay Diwas and offered floral tributes to the brave martyrs of the Kargil war," the Raj Bhavan said in a Facebook post. Kargil Vijay Diwas is observed annually on July 26 to mark India's victory over Pakistan in the 1999 conflict. 'The day is dedicated to the eternal memory of all armed forces personnel who laid down their lives in defence of the nation during the Kargil war," the release added. Gajapathi Raju takes oath as Goa governor
Agency: PTI Last Updated: Panaji, July 26 (PTI) Former Union minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju was sworn in as the governor of Goa on Saturday, succeeding P S Sreedharan Pillai. Raju was administered the oath of office at Raj Bhavan by Chief Justice of Bombay High Court Alok Aradhe. Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and other dignitaries attended the event. Raju, 74, said he would follow the Constitution of India while serving the people. 'We all work as a team, and I am very delighted that I am associated with Goans," he said. 'Though I don't understand the local language and this is my first assignment in this (gubernatorial) office, I have had a long innings in the political set-up. I was a seven-time legislator in Andhra Pradesh before it was bifurcated into two states," he said. Referring to his political career, Raju said he had a short tenure in Parliament. 'I have been in and out as a minister in the government and also sat in the opposition. I have wide experience," the governor added. A veteran Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leader from Andhra Pradesh, Raju served as the civil aviation minister between May 27, 2014 and March 10, 2018. He has also held ministerial posts in the Andhra Pradesh government. Later, addressing reporters, Raju said he was looking forward to working with the people of Goa. 'I am looking forward to working for you, or rather, I should say 'working with you. 'For' is a mind terminology, but (I prefer to say) 'with you' because if people don't work with the government, democracy suffers. We don't want that situation. We want everyone to work unitedly," he added. He appealed to people to take India forward by working together. 'India will be second to none in the world". Pillai had completed four years in the gubernatorial position in Goa. He was accorded a farewell on Thursday.
