Michael Page ahead of UFC 319: Jared Cannonier powerful, but nowhere near as fast as me
Page (23-3 MMA, 2-1 UFC) meets former middleweight title challenger Cannonier (18-8 MMA, 11-8 UFC) on the Aug. 16 main card from United Center in Chicago (ESPN+, ESPN, pay-per-view).
Cannonier snapped a two-fight losing skid with a come-from-behind knockout of Gregory Rodrigues in the UFC Fight Night 251 headliner. Page says that performance proved that the 41-year-old still has plenty of fight left in him.
"Similar to myself, it's the last lap around the track, and he wants to try and get a title shot, and he's pushing for that," Page told MMA Junkie of Cannonier. "Regardless of the losses, he's still motivated and you can see that because he's turned it around, and even in that fight that he won (against Rodrigues), he didn't start so well. He took a heavy shot, got rocked, and managed to come back and turn it back around and win that fight.
"It shows his motivations and aspirations still in the sport, regardless of his age. He's still like, 'y'Yep, I still want this.' It means I'm going to be fighting somebody super motivated to move forward, which is amazing, and that's what I want. I want somebody who is as equally excited and motivated as me to make noise and push forward."
Cannonier took umbrage with the UFC offering him unranked Page, but "MVP" sees an equal amount to gain for his opponent.
"Even though he says I'm not in the division, I think a win over me for him looks exceptional, and I still think he'll be in and amongst the guys at the top five, basically," Page said. "He'll still be close to having that title fight."
Breaking the fight down, Page sees plenty of openings on the feet.
"Yeah, 100 percent he'll take me down," Page said. "It'll be smart for him to take me down. He's super powerful. He was at heavyweight at one point, then to light heavyweight, then he's come down to middleweight. He's going to carry some of that natural power that he's had from years in his career. He's super powerful, very smart in how he does certain things, and picks his shots really, really well.
"I still don't believe he's going to be anywhere near as fast as me – nowhere near, and that's what he's going to struggle in. Watching him against (Robert) Whittaker, because Whittaker's got a nice bounce, what he tried to do is like everybody: Chop your legs down first, but then leaves himself very open for jabs and shots down the middle. Every time he's gotten caught is shots down the middle because he likes to open his hands and get those big hooks and land those big shots. But for me, speed kills."

Broward County high school football teams once again have a challenging slate of games on the road to possible state championships, which will once again include tough opposition both locally and nationally. Here's a look at the best games involving Broward County teams: NOTE: All games at 7 unless noted. Chaminade vs. St. Frances Academy (Md.), 8, Aug. 23: As it has in recent years, the annual Broward Football Showcase is a perfect blastoff point for the season as three Broward teams are immediately tested against other nationally-ranked teams from around the country. The county did not fare well in last year's event, losing six of seven games so Chaminade, ranked No. 7 by MaxPreps, will be motivated heading into a matchup with fifth-ranked St. Frances Academy. The game wraps up what will be an eight-game slate over three days in this year's event, and will be one of three televised on ESPN networks. Mater Dei at St. Thomas Aquinas, 4, Aug. 23: Many consider this the main event of the weekend as the top-ranked team in the country, Mater Dei, makes the trek to Fort Lauderdale to take on the six-time reigning state champion Raiders. Aquinas has been playing national opponents going on two decades and nearly knocked off Las Vegas Bishop Gorman in this event last year so don't expect them to be intimidated by this California juggernaut. American Heritage vs. St. Joseph's Prep (PA), Aug. 22: Heritage kicks off the ESPN-televised portion of the Broward Showcase on Friday with a matchup against MaxPreps No. 30-ranked St. Joseph's. (Dillard), 4; Archbishop McCarthy at Cardinal Gibbons; Monarch vs. Jacksonville Bolles (Dillard), 8 Aug. 22: West Broward vs. Corner Canyon (UT), 4; Orlando Dr. Phillips at Dillard, 8 Chaminade at McArthur, Aug. 29: There's been plenty of buzz surrounding McArthur this offseason after the arrival of several transfer starters figures to make the Mustangs a postseason threat. Their schedule is no joke as at this point McArthur will have played American Heritage in the preseason and now another nationally-ranked powerhouse. More games to watch - Aug. 28: Cypress Bay at Flanagan; Aug. 29: West Broward at Camden County (Ga.), 7:30; Piper at Coconut Creek. St. Thomas Aquinas vs. Columbus (Tropical Park), 7:30, Sept. 5: This matchup should once again attract a big crowd with both schools home to two of the most passionate fanbases in South Florida. Aquinas quickly turned last year's matchup into a 42-6 rout. Columbus is eager to prove it is still among the state's best overall and a legit state title contender in Class 7A. This is a good early test to prove that. Chaminade at American Heritage, 7:30, Sept. 5: If both survive their early tests, this matchup could have major national championship implications. Regardless, when Heritage and Chaminade have played each of the past four seasons, they've provided some of the most thrilling games in South Florida. West Broward at Cardinal Gibbons, Sept. 11: West Broward took a big step forward last season, and figures to be geared up for another playoff run in 2025. The Bobcats' roster might be their deepest ever and this was the game where they made their mark last season. Gibbons would love payback and a chance to remind people it is a state title contender in Class 2A. More games to watch - Sept. 12: True North at Archbishop McCarthy; American Heritage at New Orleans Edna Karr; Piper vs. Plantation (PAL). Central at American Heritage, 7:30, Sept. 19: Echoes of the 2022 state title game continue to come up when these two meet. Heritage will be battle-tested by this point after a brutal early schedule. For a younger, but not any less talented Central squad now coached by Derrick Gibson, this is a good measuring stick game. White House to Hold UFC Fight on U.S.'s 250th Birthday
The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) will hold the first-ever professional mixed-martial arts fight at the White House during America's 250th birthday celebration next year. UFC CEO Dana White confirmed on Tuesday that the fight would take place on July 4, 2026, the 250th anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence. 'It is definitely going to happen,' he told the hosts of CBS Mornings. White said he already spoke with President Donald Trump, a long-time UFC fan and friend of the CEO, and will meet with Trump and his daughter Ivanka Trump later this month to continue planning the event. 'When he called me and asked me to do it, he said, 'I want Ivanka in the middle of this,'' White said of the President, on CBS Mornings. 'So Ivanka reached out to me, and her and I started talking about the possibilities, where it would be and, you know, I put together all the renderings.' Trump told his supporters at an event in Iowa last month that he wanted to have a UFC fight at the presidential residence. 'We're going to have a UFC fight, think of this, on the grounds of the White House. We have a lot of land there,' Trump said at the time. 'Dana's going to do it. Dana's great. One of a kind.' It is not yet clear which UFC fighters will participate in the showdown. White told The Associated Press Tuesday that it was too early to talk about the possible main event. Longtime UFC star Conor McGregor, who last fought in 2021 and visited the White House in March, expressed interest shortly after Trump spoke about a potential fight last month. 'I would be honoured! Count me in!' McGregor wrote on X. Since his last fight, McGregor was found liable for sexually assaulting a woman in a hotel room in 2018 in a civil case last year. Trump has attended UFC fights during both his first and second terms. In April, the President went to a fight in Miami with several members of his Administration, including then-head of the Department of Government Efficiency Elon Musk, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, FBI Director Kash Patel, and Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. The fight will be part of what the White House has said will be 'a full year of festivities' for the nation's 250th birthday. To plan the celebration, Trump formed a task force, called the 'Salute to America 250 Task Force.' 'Task Force 250 invites citizens to have a renewed love of American history, experience the beauty of our country, and ignite a spirit of adventure and innovation that will raise our nation to new heights over the next 250 years,' the website reads.

Dana White reiterates that UFC White House fights are 'absolutely going to happen'
President Donald Trump revealed plans last month to have a UFC card at the White House to celebrate the United States' 250th birthday next year. UFC president Dana White admitted shortly after the announcement that he had no idea Trump would mention it in a public setting, but the ball has been rolling ever since. White recently discussed potential matchups, but they don't seem to be hypotheticals at this point. "It's absolutely going to happen," White told The Associated Press. "Think about that, the 250th birthday of the United States of America, the UFC will be on the White House south lawn live on CBS." "This is a one-of-one event." White promised "the baddest card of all time" during a podcast appearance, confirming that Jon Jones, who retired on June 21 and celebrated his most recent victory with a Trump dance with the president in attendance, went back into the drug-testing pool. "Everybody wants to fight on this card. Literally everybody," White told the "Full Send Podcast." Jones all but confirmed this week he'd be fighting at the White House. "The moment I heard Donald Trump's announcement, I started training again," Jones said in a recent X post. Conor McGregor quickly showed interest in fighting at the White House, and White even said McGregor "could be" on the same card as Jones in the nation's capital. Trump has attended numerous UFC events over the years, most recently in Newark, N.J. for UFC 316. The UFC will get rid of its pay-per-view model as part of its massive $7.7 billion agreement to air its events on Paramount+ starting in 2026, its parent company TKO announced on Monday. Paramount will distribute 13 of its major events and 30 Fight Nights through its direct-to-consumer platform, Paramount+, with select events airing on CBS. There will be no additional cost for fans who want to watch UFC numbered events.
