Eben Etzebeth on crutches after worrying injury
Eben Etzebeth has only just returned to action after picking up an injury niggle during the Springboks' alignment camp earlier this year.
Before that, he was sidelined for nearly five months with a concussion issue, but it was finally hoped that he could begin to rebuild some fitness and form as the Springboks' 2025 season looms on the horizon.
However, the big lock unfortunately had to leave the field on a golf cart in the 27th minute of the Sharks' 29-10 win against the Ospreys at Kings Park on Friday night.
After the game Etzebeth could be seen on crutches, and he will now be sent for scans to reveal more about the injury.
After the game, coach John Plumtree said there was still hope that the injury wasn't too serious.
'Hopefully, Eben's not too bad,' Plumtree said at the post-match press conference. 'I'm hoping it's just a hematoma [a bad bruise] that might come right even before the [end of the] weekend. He's a quick healer, Eben, but we'll know more after he gets a scan.
'You could see he was just trying to push through it but it was too sore. I spoke to him at half time and he felt a bit better.'

JOHANNESBURG - South Africa coach Rassie Erasmus on Thursday named a 54-player squad for the June 28 fixture against the Barbarians, followed by Tests against Italy and Georgia. Tanzanian club name their price for Kaizer Chiefs target
Kaizer Chiefs are are looking at a number of options both locally and abroad to boost their attack for nexts season. That, according to reports proved to be a rather successful journey. But Salum appears not to have been the only target that Nabi was trying to lure to Chiefs. According to media reports both locally and in Tanzania, Simba SC star Jean Charles Ahoua. Now according to Soccer-Laduma , Amakhosi are indeed interested 'Nabi was here last month and it's believed that he said he was after Feisal Salum from Azam FC as well as Jean Charles Ahoua from Simba SC. Kaizer Chiefs cool interest in Terrence Mashego
Kaizer Chiefs are actively searching for a new left-back, but recent developments suggest that Terrence Mashego of Mamelodi Sundowns is no longer on their radar. Despite being linked with the 29-year-old, the Glamour Boys appear to have shifted their attention elsewhere. Mashego, who joined Sundowns in September 2022, may exit the club at the end of June.
