Kaizer Chiefs cool interest in Terrence Mashego
Kaizer Chiefs are actively searching for a new left-back, but recent developments suggest that Terrence Mashego of Mamelodi Sundowns is no longer on their radar. Despite being linked with the 29-year-old, the Glamour Boys appear to have shifted their attention elsewhere.
Mashego, who joined Sundowns in September 2022, may exit the club at the end of June. His future hangs in the balance, especially with Sundowns keen to secure the services of Stellenbosch FC's Fawaaz Basadien. However, sources close to the situation have confirmed that Mashego won't be heading to Naturena.
A source revealed that Chiefs had the chance to sign Mashego earlier this year but opted against it.
'Sundowns offered Mashego to Chiefs in January, and they turned it down,' said the source.
Despite being previously linked with the former Cape Town City defender, Amakhosi seem firmly focused on Basadien as their primary target. But with Sundowns also vying for the Stellies star, Chiefs could be forced to look at alternative options to strengthen their backline.
Mashego has struggled for regular minutes at Chloorkop, and his frustration is beginning to show. Although he has made 45 appearances since joining Sundowns, this season he has featured in only 13 matches, a drop that reportedly led to his exclusion from the Bafana Bafana squad.
Adding to the drama, Sundowns have now triggered the contract extension clause in Mashego's deal, likely as a strategic move to retain control over his future amid increasing interest from Stellenbosch FC.
With Mashego's future up in the air and Kaizer Chiefs laser-focused on other targets. The upcoming transfer window promises plenty of twists. Whether Chiefs can beat Sundowns to Basadien's signature, or are forced to pursue a third option, remains to be seen.

Orlando Pirates star offered to Kaizer Chiefs!
Kaizer Chiefs could be set for a shock transfer by signing one of the players from their archrivals Orlando Pirates. Chiefs are looking to bolster their squad ahead of the 2025/26 season and that could lead them to rivals Pirates. It is not usual that players move directly between the Soweto giants, however, it has happened in the recent past. This is usually only through free agency, with names like Jimmy Tau, Lehlohonolo Majoro and Brilliant Khuzwayo coming to mind. Those players moved between Chiefs and Pirates without the clubs being involved in direct negotiations with each other. Then last season, however, Chiefs and Pirates negotiated a historic first ever transfer between each other. Amakhosi acquired the services of Bongani Sam from the Buccaneers, with the left-back signing for a reported R3 million fee. Now according to SABC Sport, there could be another direct transfer between the two clubs involving Thabiso Monyane. Monyane, however, will see his deal at Pirates expire in June and has reportedly been offered to Chiefs! 'SABC Sport has established that Kaizer Chiefs have been presented with the opportunity to sign right back Thabiso Monyane, whose contract with Orlando Pirates runs out this month. It's understood Monyane has not put pen to paper on a new agreement with The Buccaneer, but unclear whether this is due to the two parties not finding each other on personal terms of if Pirates are ready to release the player. What the public broadcaster has gathered, however, is that Monyane has been offered to Amakhosi as a free agent. it now appears as though his time could be over as it is believed the player's camp has held talks with Chiefs to potentially bring him to Naturena effective 1 July as a free agent next season.' Wrote the publication. Chiefs fans would you be happy to sign Monyane from Pirates? Buccaneers, how would you feel about losing the 24-year-old to Amakhosi?
