Jaguar E-Type Restomod Keeps 'Vintage Excellence' Alive

NDTV21-05-2025
Restomods often end up drawing criticism because of supererogatory changes to iconic models. Going against the pattern, the Jaguar E-Type restomod concept is being showered with praise. Even though it is based on a model, called "the most beautiful car ever made" by Enzo Ferrari, the tinkering has made the silhouette even better. Behind the commendable job is Ian Callum, the person who was at the helm of Jaguar's design department between 1999 and 2019, and has multiple models under his belt, like the Jaguar F-Type, Aston Martin DB9, and more.
The Jaguar E-Type restomod, a creation of Callum Designs, is still a sketch. However, chances are the 3D render might soon step into the real world. Created as a part of Callum's "Portfolio Project," the design shares the space with the off-road SUV called the Grampian. This line of projects is likely to have more models in the near future.

Revered by many enthusiasts, Callum has left some parts of the E-Type untouched. It still retains its flowing lines, creating the iconic profile and proportions that spelled perfection for many. Taking a closer look reveals changes like the elimination of all chrome elements, numbers, and door handles have been replaced to sit flush. The shape of the headlight retains the shape, but is fitted with time-adapted LED light. Rear lights, however, are now slightly lower. Taking the front seat on the list of most striking changes are the wheels with a large aero-disc design.
On the inside, the Jaguar E-Type restomod concept brings its A-game with retro charm. It consists of a wooden steering wheel with an analog dial. Camouflaged well in this cabin is a transparent digital display taking the place of the center of the dashboard, forming the bridge between the occupant and the modern tech functionality of the car. Going with the overall theme is a manual shifter placed in the center.
The technical specs of the restomod have not been revealed yet. However, the presence of exhaust pipes at the rear end suggests that it is not an electric vehicle. Speculators suggest it will have a supercharged 5.0-litre V8 engine used by Jaguar for the F-type.

Maruti Suzuki Escudo: Top 5 expectations from this SUV

Maruti Suzuki is gearing up to launch at least two new SUVs in the Indian passenger vehicle market in this financial year. One of them is the first-ever electric car from the automaker, the e-Vitara . Besides that, there is the Maruti Suzuki Escudo, which is slated to launch in the market on September 3. This will come as a mid-size SUV, challenging the rivals such as Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos , among others. Maruti Suzuki has tasted immense success with models like the Brezza, Grand Vitara and even the Baleno premium hatchback-based crossover Fronx. Buoyed by this and in an attempt to capitalise on the maddening SUV mania, the biggest carmaker in India is aiming to go bigger in the utility vehicle segment. The e-Vitara and the Escudo will come as part of that strategy. Here are some key facts and expectations about the Maruti Suzuki Escudo, which aims to be positioned in a segment that has been witnessing rapid growth in demand. Maruti Suzuki Escudo: To be sold through Arena Maruti Suzuki Escudo will not be a model sold through Nexa premium retail outlets. Instead, unlike the Grand Vitara, it will be sold alongside the Brezza, through the Arena retail network, which will help Maruti Suzuki to pose the new SUV as a more affordable offering and not a premium one. Maruti Suzuki Escudo: To use Grand Vitara's platform While the Escudo is unlikely to be sold through Nexa alongside the Grand Vitara, it will use the same platform as the latter. This will allow the Escudo to have a large wheelbase, eventually ensuring more cabin and boot space, which means a comfortable experience for the occupants. Maruti Suzuki Escudo: To get multiple powertrains The Maruti Suzuki Escudo will have multiple powertrain options, just like the Grand Vitara. There will be a 1.5-litre petrol engine that is capable of churning out 101 bhp peak power and 139 Nm of maximum torque. Besides that, there will be a petrol-CNG bi-fuel powertrain as well. Also, just like the Grand Vitara, the Escudo will be available with a petrol-hybrid powertrain. With this multiple-powertrain strategy, the Escudo will aim to attract a larger number of consumers with variable fuel preferences. Maruti Suzuki Escudo: To get multiple transmissions Maruti Suzuki Escudo will come with multiple transmission options. The transmission choices of the SUV will include a five-speed manual gearbox, a six-speed automatic unit, and an e-CVT for the hybrid version. Expect the SUV to be available with both two-wheel and four-wheel drive options. Maruti Suzuki Escudo: To come packed with features In an attempt to come as an upmarket model, the Maruti Suzuki Escudo will come packing a wide range of features aided by advanced technology. Some of them will be a Dolby Atmos-powered audio system, a powered tailgate, and most interestingly, a Level 2 ADAS suite. Check out Upcoming Cars in India 2025, Best SUVs in India. Jaguar Land Rover to recall over 121,500 cars in US, blame it on a faulty suspension

Tata Motors-owned British luxury car marque Jaguar Land Rover to recall more than 121,500 cars in the United States owing to a suspension knuckle issue. The recall affected cars include the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport models in the country. The affected vehicles will be inspected by the technicians, and the faulty parts will be fixed or replaced without any cost to the customers. The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), in an official statement, has said that the potentially affected cars from Jaguar and Land Rover have faulty front suspensions. The NHTSA has stated that the aluminium front suspension knuckles, which connect the front wheels to the vehicle's critical components like the brake assembly, are at the centre of this recall. The agency has also said that the faulty suspension parts could crack and possibly increase the risk of a crash, which could be fatal if the vehicle is in speeds. The recall comes after the agency launched a preliminary investigation into 91,856 Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles over fractured front steering knuckles back in June this year. Just a few days back, Tata Motors reported a consolidated net profit of ₹4,003 crore for the first quarter of FY26, down by 62.2 per cent from the ₹10,587 crore recorded in the same quarter last year. The auto company attributed this drop in profit to lower sales volumes across segments and a dip in JLR's profits due to the US tariffs. Tata Motors has also stated that the revenue of JLR dropped by 9.2 per cent on a year-on-year basis in the last quarter of this fiscal, as compared to the first quarter of the last financial year. JLR's revenue for the quarter slumped to 6.6 billion pounds. The company attributed this decline to lowered wholesale volumes due to tariffs and the planned phase-out of legacy Jaguar models. Meanwhile, JLR is undergoing a leadership change with PB Balaji slated to take over as the new CEO from November 17, 2025. Check out Upcoming Cars in India 2025, Best SUVs in India.
