Maruti Suzuki Escudo: Top 5 expectations from this SUV
Maruti Suzuki has tasted immense success with models like the Brezza, Grand Vitara and even the Baleno premium hatchback-based crossover Fronx. Buoyed by this and in an attempt to capitalise on the maddening SUV mania, the biggest carmaker in India is aiming to go bigger in the utility vehicle segment. The e-Vitara and the Escudo will come as part of that strategy.
Here are some key facts and expectations about the Maruti Suzuki Escudo, which aims to be positioned in a segment that has been witnessing rapid growth in demand.
Maruti Suzuki Escudo: To be sold through Arena
Maruti Suzuki Escudo will not be a model sold through Nexa premium retail outlets. Instead, unlike the Grand Vitara, it will be sold alongside the Brezza, through the Arena retail network, which will help Maruti Suzuki to pose the new SUV as a more affordable offering and not a premium one.
Maruti Suzuki Escudo: To use Grand Vitara's platform
While the Escudo is unlikely to be sold through Nexa alongside the Grand Vitara, it will use the same platform as the latter. This will allow the Escudo to have a large wheelbase, eventually ensuring more cabin and boot space, which means a comfortable experience for the occupants.
Maruti Suzuki Escudo: To get multiple powertrains
The Maruti Suzuki Escudo will have multiple powertrain options, just like the Grand Vitara. There will be a 1.5-litre petrol engine that is capable of churning out 101 bhp peak power and 139 Nm of maximum torque. Besides that, there will be a petrol-CNG bi-fuel powertrain as well. Also, just like the Grand Vitara, the Escudo will be available with a petrol-hybrid powertrain. With this multiple-powertrain strategy, the Escudo will aim to attract a larger number of consumers with variable fuel preferences.
Maruti Suzuki Escudo: To get multiple transmissions
Maruti Suzuki Escudo will come with multiple transmission options. The transmission choices of the SUV will include a five-speed manual gearbox, a six-speed automatic unit, and an e-CVT for the hybrid version. Expect the SUV to be available with both two-wheel and four-wheel drive options.
Maruti Suzuki Escudo: To come packed with features
In an attempt to come as an upmarket model, the Maruti Suzuki Escudo will come packing a wide range of features aided by advanced technology. Some of them will be a Dolby Atmos-powered audio system, a powered tailgate, and most interestingly, a Level 2 ADAS suite.

Pakistan announces Army Rocket Force Command
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan turned its Independence Day celebrations on Thursday into a carefully choreographed display of military muscle and political messaging headlined by the announcement of a new Army Rocket Force Command. The event at Islamabad's Jinnah Stadium, branded Marka-e-Haq ('Battle of Truth'), saw Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif share the stage with army chief Field Marshal Asim Munir, ISI chief Lt Gen Asim Malik, and Asifa Bhutto Zardari. Military representatives from Turkey and Azerbaijan added a touch of foreign endorsement. In his address, Shehbaz also unveiled 'Misaq-e-Istehkam-e-Pakistan (Charter for Stability)', pitched as a call for unity beyond partisan divides. The newly announced rocket force marks a first in Pakistan's military structure, signalling ambitions for precision-strike capability. But with the economy still under strain, the decision is likely to spark debate over balancing strategic aspirations with fiscal realities. On foreign policy, Shehbaz expressed gratitude to China, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Azerbaijan, UAE, Iran, and, pointedly, US President Donald Trump, for support during tensions with India. He reiterated Pakistan's firm positions on Kashmir and Palestine, indicating no softening of regional stances. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Dementia Has Been Linked To a Common Habit. Whether Marka-e-Haq becomes more than pageantry will depend on Islamabad's ability to deliver on promises of reform, stability, and economic recovery long after the parades are over.

Rajnath hails Operation Sindoor as model of precision, self-reliance on eve of Independence Day
On the eve of India's 79th Independence Day, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh praised Operation Sindoor as a 'precise and balanced' military response that highlighted India's 'new vision'. In his message to the armed forces on Thursday (August 14, 2025), he said the operation showcased India's new vision, technological advances, self-reliance, use of drones, layered air defence, electronic warfare, and network-centric operations. He said without crossing the Line of Control or harming civilians, the armed forces destroyed nine major terror camps, including those of the Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed, within minutes. Follow President Murmu's speech on the eve of Independence Day 2025 'It was a clear message from India that we are tolerant, but when it comes to the safety of our people and the dignity of our country, we unite and face every challenge boldly. Operation Sindoor is a part of India's new policy, a clear message that no matter how deep the roots of terrorism are, its complete destruction will be ensured. This operation will continue until the goal of complete destruction of terrorism is achieved,' he said. Mr. Singh said the action avenged the April 22 Pahalgam attack as well as past terror attacks, such as those on the Parliament, Mumbai's Taj hotel, and Amarnath pilgrims. He praised the more recent 'Operation Mahadev' for neutralising key LeT commanders, and recalled earlier surgical and air strikes after the Pathankot and Pulwama terror incidents. Highlighting Aatmanirbharta, he said India now manufactures 65% of its defence needs, with the defence budget rising from ₹2.53 lakh crore in 2013-14 to ₹6.81 lakh crore in 2025-26. Defence production has grown from ₹46,000 crore to ₹1.51 lakh crore, and exports from ₹1,900 crore to ₹23,622 crore, with targets of ₹3 lakh crore production and ₹50,000 crore exports by 2029. Mr. Singh highlighted platforms such as the INS Arihant nuclear-powered submarine, Rafale-Marine jets, AMCA jets, and Prachand helicopters that would add firepower to the forces, and cited the government's welfare measures such as the One Rank One Pension scheme. He also lauded the forces' role in disaster relief and global evacuations such as 'Operation Sindhu'. He thanked soldiers, veterans, and their families. He also mentioned major border projects, including the world's highest tunnel at Shinkun La in Ladakh, and women's growing role in the country's defence, marked by historic naval voyages and the graduation of the first batch of 17 women from the National Defence Academy. Mr. Singh urged citizens, especially youth, to contribute actively to building a strong, self-reliant, and united India.

Report Suggests Apple Could Unveil Tabletop AI Robot Resembling WALL-E by 2027
Apple could be on its way to releasing a novel Apple AI robot that would take the form of a tabletop companion—a clever, emotive assistant akin to WALL-E from the Pixar film. Apple AI device news by Indian Express citing Bloomberg says that the rumored device will be the 'keystone of Apple's AI efforts in the coming years' and will be released by 2027. The new machine is reportedly akin to an iPad secured on a motorized arm capable of pivoting and rotating to follow someone around a room and will have natural language capabilities. In addition, the device will also have a next-generation Siri that can 'join group conversations, and remember things that were said previously.' Apple is said to be working on a face for the Apple WALL-E robot, which could be a sticker of an animated Finder logo, or another lively mascot to embody tabletop AI assistant, and the features it'll receive to make it useful, including a more powerful in-house AI codenamed LLM Siri, run by Apple's own 'Linwood' Apple robotics 2027 with other outside engines like 'Glenwood.' Apple's reported AI push will reportedly also include smart display speakers and smart security cameras with facial recognition, infrared sensors, and controls that can make lights turn on or music play when someone enters a room. The company is also said to be developing similar features and could soon bring them to Apple devices like the Apple Watch. Apple's large language model, internally labelled LLM Siri, is said to be launching some time next spring. The AI-powered Siri will employ an in-house developed technology called Linwood, as well as outside technology called Glenwood. Apple hasn't made a final decision, but it does seem like the tech giant is currently testing Anthropic's Claude.
