Is it any wonder, then, that period dramas have exploded in popularity in recent years as weary TV viewers seek some respite from buzzing phones, blinding lights, and busy brunch schedules?
No, of course it's not. Who doesn't love a bit of Regency pomp, some medieval intrigue, or even 1920s glam?
But where's the discerning TV fan supposed to find these shows? Well, Amazon Prime Video has a library crammed with enough historical dramas to keep even the most voracious TV binger busy.

Boasting an impressive 95% on Rotten Tomatoes, the series is a blast featuring thrilling court intrigue, scintillating romance, and even shape-shifting magical creatures (It's an alternate reality,y just roll with it).
Is it any wonder fans have labelled the series the 'best show of 2024' or that George RR Martin has been asking Amazon to consider commissioning a second season?
For a swashbuckling adventure, binge-watch Black Sails, a TV prequel to Robert Louis Stevenson's classic novel Treasure Island.
Set in the early 18th century, the historical drama follows the pirates of New Providence Island as they hunt for the Spanish shipwreck, Urca de Lima, to uncover treasures.

Set in the Baroque era, the show is a no-holds-barred depiction of the court of King Louis XIV (George Blagden) – and the continuous rumours of sex sessions and gluttony that took place in the period.
Speaking about the show previously to Metro, George said: 'I remember hearing this incredible phrase, 'bedrooms were boardrooms at Versailles', and it's just such an amazing idea and concept to play with.'

For those who liked Vanilla Pumpkin in the past, it smells like it's back with a new name. Jada said: "I've been insisting it's pumpkin spice season all month with the Gilmore Girls theme tune seemingly permanently in the background. With pumpkin themed body products on the shelf it feels safe to say that it is officially time to lean into all things cosy. "Vanilla Pumpkin used to be a product I'd stock up on every September and I was heartbroken when it got discontinued. Luckily Sugar Pumpkin smells identical. As soon as I sprayed it I felt transported to my early university days when I'd buy enough of the body butter to last me past Christmas." She continued: "The whole range smells extremely cosy and little bit like Shea butter. It instantly puts me in a good mood. It's not the most complex scent but I don't think we always need complex. If four seasons of Clarkson's Farm have taught us anything, it's that farmers are an unflappable bunch. Even in the face of declining harvests, biblical floods, and Jeremy Clarkson's innovative (and by innovative we mean calamitous) farming techniques, nothing gets them down. It's perhaps unsurprising then that Kaleb Cooper – Jeremy's right-hand man and farm manager – remained incredibly cool-headed while his wife went into labour with their third child. Jeremy told the story in his column for The Sun, writing: 'The boy wonder Kaleb Cooper, who manages my farm, received word this week that his wife was in labour. ''Right,' he said. 'I'll be there when I've finished harvesting this field.' 'How farmerish is that?!?!' In July, Jeremy revealed that one of his cows had tested positive for TB, which meant they had to quarantine the cattle farm and one of their newborn puppies passed away.
