Palestinian issue: MAPIM sends urgent appeal to leaders of China, Russia and India

The Sun26-04-2025

SHAH ALAM: The Malaysian Consultative Council of Islamic Organisation (MAPIM) has sent letters to the leaders of three major world powers - China, Russia, and India - last week, seeking their attention and support for the cause of the Palestinian people.
Its president Mohd Azmi Abdul Hamid said the initiative was part of MAPIM's ongoing efforts to engage global powers in urging the Zionist regime to immediately cease its atrocities against the Palestinian people, particularly in Gaza.
'The essence of the letter primarily highlights the increasingly dire situation facing the people of Gaza. MAPIM believes that the Palestinian cause urgently requires the intervention of China, Russia, and India, whose collective influence could exert pressure on Israel and the United States.
'They must play an active role in maintaining continuous pressure, and, at the very least, insist on the immediate opening of the Rafah border to facilitate the delivery of food and medical aid,' he told Bernama here, today.
Last week, MAPIM addressed a formal letter to three world leaders - Chinese President Xi Jinping; Russian President Vladimir Putin, and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi - appealing for their attention and action on the Palestinian issue.
Mohd Azmi further said that MAPIM intends to hold a meeting with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in the near future to discuss the strategic direction of Malaysia's aid efforts for Palestine.
He said that Egypt's efforts to pressure Israel and the United States had shown signs of progress toward reopening the Rafah border crossing, and that this matter will also be brought to the attention of the Prime Minister, with the hope that Malaysia can lend its voice of support.
'To date, 500 MAPIM aid trucks remain stranded at the Rafah border, in addition to 50 containers filled with food, medical supplies, tents, and other essential items which had initially arrived in Egypt,' he said.
Earlier, Mohd Azmi attended the Aidilfitri gathering and delivered the keynote speech at the annual general meeting of the Forum Ekonomi Manusiawi (FEM), at the Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Shah Alam Mosque, here.
More than 50 participants attended the forum, which focused on the socio-geopolitical landscape of the country, particularly in light of the ongoing crisis in the cultural and intellectual leadership, among both political leaders and the community.

Dungun UiTM Student Accident: Victim's Family Grateful To Amirudin, Selangor Govt For Compensation

SHAH ALAM, June 11 (Bernama) -- The family of Ku Adib Aizad, a student of Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Dungun, Terengganu who died in an accident in front of the campus on Oct 9 last year, have expressed their gratitude to Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shahri and the state government for providing takaful compensation for their son's education loan. Besides providing compensation amounting to RM20,803.67, the state government has also waived the education loan of RM15,050.00 that the deceased had received, which freed the student's family from having to repay the loan. Ku Adib's father, Ku Azmi Saad, said the initiative shows Amirudin and the state government's concern in helping them after the sudden loss of their beloved family member.

Russia says it is ready to remove excess nuclear materials from Iran

FILE PHOTO: Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia Sergei Ryabkov attends the Iran and BRICS summit in Tehran, Iran, August 8, 2023. Majid Asgaripour/WANA (West Asia News Agency) via REUTERS/File Photo MOSCOW (Reuters) -Russia said on Wednesday it was ready to remove nuclear materials from Iran and convert them into fuel as a potential way to help narrow differences between the United States and Iran over the Islamic Republic's nuclear programme. Tehran says it has the right to peaceful nuclear power, but its swiftly-advancing uranium enrichment programme has raised fears in the West and across the Gulf that it wants to build a nuclear weapon. The fate of Iran's uranium enrichment is at the heart of the disagreement between Washington and Tehran: U.S. President Donald Trump says that Iran cannot be allowed to develop nuclear weapons, while Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei says Iran cannot abandon enrichment. President Vladimir Putin told Trump in a phone call that he was ready to use Russia's close partnership with Iran to help with negotiations over Iran's nuclear programme, the Kremlin said last week. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov, who oversees arms control and U.S. relations, told Russian media on Wednesday that efforts to reach a solution should be redoubled and that Moscow was willing to help with ideas and in practical ways. "We are ready to provide assistance to both Washington and Tehran, not only politically, not only in the form of ideas that could be of use in the negotiation process, but also practically: for example, through the export of excess nuclear material produced by Iran and its subsequent adaptation to the production of fuel for reactors," Ryabkov said. The United States wants all of Iran's highly enriched uranium (HEU) to be shipped out of the country. Tehran says it should only send out any excess amount above a ceiling that was agreed in a 2015 deal. Russia, the world's biggest nuclear power, does not want to see Iran acquire nuclear weapons, but believes it has every right to develop its own civilian nuclear programme and that any use of military force against it would be illegal and unacceptable. Moscow has bought weapons from Iran for its war in Ukraine and signed a 20-year strategic partnership deal with Tehran earlier this year. Finland summons Russian diplomat after suspected airspace violation

HELSINKI: Finland on Wednesday summoned Russia's charge d'affaires for talks, a day after a Russian military aircraft was suspected of violating Finnish airspace, the foreign ministry told AFP. Finland's defence ministry said on Tuesday that it believed a Russian military aircraft had violated Finnish airspace off the coast of Porvoo, east of the capital Helsinki. The foreign ministry said it would provide more details after the talks. The incident came only weeks after a similar incident, which was also followed by a summoning of Russia's diplomatic representative. Finland, which joined NATO in 2023 after Moscow's fully-fledged invasion of Ukraine a year earlier, shares a 1,340-kilometre (830-mile) border with Russia. 'An investigation into the alleged violation of airspace was launched immediately,' Defence Minister Antti Hakkanen said of Tuesday's incident, adding that the coast guard would head the inquiry. Moscow has repeatedly warned Finland of possible repercussions over its decision to join NATO, amid heightened tensions. Hakkanen told AFP in mid-May that Finland was 'closely monitoring and assessing Russia's activities and intentions'. He was commenting after the New York Times published satellite images appearing to show an expansion of Russian military infrastructure near the border.
