Dungun UiTM Student Accident: Victim's Family Grateful To Amirudin, Selangor Govt For Compensation
SHAH ALAM, June 11 (Bernama) -- The family of Ku Adib Aizad, a student of Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Dungun, Terengganu who died in an accident in front of the campus on Oct 9 last year, have expressed their gratitude to Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shahri and the state government for providing takaful compensation for their son's education loan.
Besides providing compensation amounting to RM20,803.67, the state government has also waived the education loan of RM15,050.00 that the deceased had received, which freed the student's family from having to repay the loan.
Ku Adib's father, Ku Azmi Saad, said the initiative shows Amirudin and the state government's concern in helping them after the sudden loss of their beloved family member.

Anwar said the government had allocated approximately RM486,000 for the visit after receiving a formal application from Dr Mahathir. "There are existing provisions for former prime ministers to apply for government support for official travel, and if the sitting prime minister approves, the government will bear the cost, including for Tun Mahathir, who recently requested to attend the Nikkei conference in Japan. He applied, and I approved it. I believe the delegation comprised around seven people. "People ask me why we paid for him. He is entitled to apply, but the decision lies with the sitting prime minister. I decided to approve the RM486,000 for him to go to Japan. "I just don't want anyone to misunderstand. I don't want to take a negative attitude. Despite his daily criticisms of the government, we still approved his travel application," Anwar told reporters here today. On May 30, Dr Mahathir was reported to have attended and delivered a speech at the annual Nikkei Future of Asia conference, a platform he has attended regularly over the years. In a separate development, Anwar said he was giving time to two cabinet ministers who recently submitted resignation letters, encouraging them to reconsider their decisions. The prime minister said he had received letters from the two ministers applying for leave and resignation, but had only approved their leave for now. "Let them think about it. Personally, I would prefer that they rejoin the cabinet," he said. The ministers in question, Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli and Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, reportedly submitted their resignations following defeats in recent party elections. Anwar was speaking after attending an organisational empowerment seminar and a closed-door meeting with PKR leaders here today. Also present were PKR vice-presidents Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari and Datuk Seri R. Ramanan, secretary-general Senator Fuziah Salleh, Wanita chief Fadhlina Sidek, Youth chief Muhammad Kamil Abdul Munim, and Hang Tuah Jaya division chief Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin. During the seminar, Anwar urged PKR members to heal internal rifts and put aside dissatisfaction following the party polls last month. He also emphasised the need for unity and maturity for the party's greater mission. "Imagine this, I can work with Umno, even hugging it out. Surely, we can move past our internal disagreements too. Let's move on for the bigger agenda," he added.

No details from China after Trump announces "done" trade deal
BEIJING: (Bernama-dpa) The United States and China have made progress in resolving differences on their economies and trade, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian said in Beijing on Thursday (June 12) without providing details, German Press Agency (dpa) reported. Lin was speaking after US President Donald Trump said that a trade agreement that would include Chinese supplies of magnets and critical rare earth minerals had almost been finalised. Lin said China hoped that the two sides could work together to implement the consensus agreed in London. Trump announced an agreement on Wednesday on his Truth Social platform. "Our deal with China is done, subject to final approval with President Xi and me," Trump posted after US and Chinese negotiating teams wrapped up two days of talks in London. "Full magnets, and any necessary rare earths, will be supplied, up front, by China. Likewise, we will provide to China what was agreed to, including Chinese students using our colleges and universities (which has always been good with me!)," he posted. Trump also said there had been a deal on tariffs, with US tariffs on imports from China at 55 per cent and Chinese reciprocal tariffs at 10 per cent. Following talks in London on Monday and Tuesday, delegates said they planned to implement the consensus agreed in Geneva in mid-May, where agreement was reached to cut import tariffs by 115 percentage points on both sides for a period of 90 days. Details of the Geneva and London agreements have not been released, with US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick saying in London that the text of the agreement would not be published. - Bernama-dpa
