The New York Knicks saw a massive shift in their roster when they made a trade with the Minnesota Timberwolves to acquire Karl-Anthony Towns. Although Towns' impact was largely positive, the big man has faced a lot of criticism, bearing the blame for New York's exit from the playoffs. In light of this, former NBA player Lou Williams had to step in to defend the forward. While speaking on "Run It Back", he said:

"Get off KAT's back. We also gotta stop allowing X and Instagram to be our GMs... There ain't a lot of KATs lying around that you can just get rid of and feel like you're going to have a better opportunity to win."
"If you've got an opportunity to get a Giannis or somebody, sure. You take a look at everything. But that was his first season as a New York Knick, and they got to the ECF. There's a lot of adjustments to be made."
Williams acknowledged Towns' defensive shortcomings, a point of concern for the Knicks, but he added that this was one among many mistakes that accumulated, eventually resulting in a loss.
He then added to his statement by saying, "If it wasn't for KAT, y'all would've been sent home 72 hours earlier anyways. So give these guys credit and give them an opportunity to get better and grow."

Towns' performance in the ECF could be considered consistent. His ability to stretch the floor, along with his sustained offensive output in the paint during Game 5 of the ECF, was crucial in keeping their playoff hopes alive.
The Knicks' big man recorded 24 points and 13 rebounds for the game while shooting 50% from the field, attempting only four shots from beyond the arc.
The 29-year-old practically reinvented himself with the Knicks. While he was already considered one of the best sharpshooting big men in the league, Towns showcased an aggression that was highly beneficial for the team during the ECF series.
Towns notched an average of 24.4 points, 12.8 rebounds, and 3.1 assists per game in the regular season. Although these numbers did take a bit of a hit in the playoffs, the change wasn't drastic enough to garner the kind of scrutiny that he has.

Regardless, the Knicks find themselves in a strange position heading into the offseason. After a commendable run through the playoffs, New York will still be looking to shake things up to improve.
The Knicks are rumored to be making some personnel changes. While head coach Tom Thibodeau seems to have the support of the franchise, the team may see some major adjustments. With links to superstars in trade rumors forming the narrative of the offseason, the organization will attempt to build a roster that can secure a championship for the city.

NBA Star Jordan Clarkson Gives Reason for Big Career Decision

NBA Star Jordan Clarkson Gives Reason for Big Career Decision originally appeared on Athlon Sports. It doesn't get much attention, but Jordan Clarkson is an undisputed second-round steal when he first came to the NBA in 2014. When the Los Angeles Lakers picked him with the No. 46 pick, he became a double-digit scorer from the jump. He isn't as accomplished as some of the other NBA stars who were picked in the second round, like Nikola Jokic, Draymond Green, Manu Ginobili, Khris Middleton, and DeAndre Jordan. Still, Clarkson has proven his worth in the NBA as a scorer, as he's averaged as many as 20.8 points per game and has never dipped below a double-digit scoring average. Clarkson has also played for quite a few playoff teams throughout his NBA career, as he helped the Cleveland Cavaliers make the NBA Finals in 2018, then helped the Utah Jazz make the NBA Playoffs for three straight years from 2020 to 2022. Jordan Clarkson Explains What It Means to Join the Knicks This offseason, the Jazz waived Clarkson, which paved the way for him to join the New York Knicks, who are fresh off their first run to the Eastern Conference Finals since 2000. In an interview with New York fashion brand KITH and its founder, Ronnie Fieg, Clarkson explained what makes the Knicks special. "This is a place that everybody wakes up and wants to play, wants to be a part of it," Clarkson said (h/t New York Basketball). I think being a Knick, in that sense, you have a sense of pride. It's love around the city always for the Knicks. "I think when you go out there and be confident and show love and really play for the city and embrace it and wear it on your skin when you're out there on the floor, play with pride and know it's bigger than yourself and this team, I feel like that's when you really are engaged and want to take it to the next level. I'm ready for it all and super excited and ready to get to it." Clarkson is coming off an injury-plagued season with the Jazz, but still put up solid scoring numbers. In 37 games, Clarkson averaged 16.2 points, 3.7 assists, and 3.2 rebounds while shooting 40.8% from the field and 36.2% from three. The Knicks were dead last in bench points per game last season, averaging 21.7 points per game, per Because of Clarkson's reputation and after the season he just had, he might be just what the doctor ordered in New York. Why Mike Brown might not be the guy to turn around the Knicks

Yahoo Sports senior NBA analyst Kevin O'Connor is joined by Wosny Lambre to discuss the offseason moves in New York and where they would grade the decisions heading into next season. Hear the full conversation on 'The Kevin O'Connor Show' and subscribe on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube or wherever you listen. View more Video Transcript The Knicks fired Tibbs, hired Mike Brown, and added Garrett Yabusele and Jordan Clarkson. Give me a grade for the Knicks' offseason. I give it a B. I give it a B. On a B. I give it a B. What's holding it back from being higher than that? The only reason I give it a B is I just don't know if Mike Brown has the gravitas that these guys are going to actually allow him to coach. The Knicks played this very deliberate, unimaginative style of offensive basketball. Mike Brown's offense in Sacramento was legitimately a well-run, very smart, way more egalitarian type of offense that you could tell was very influenced by Steve Kerr and his time with the Warriors. But I don't know that Mike Brown has the sort of cultural within the game, within the league amongst the players, cachet for them to come in and be like, yo, Brunson, you're going to get off the ball. In crunch time, you're going to let other people do stuff and achieve stuff in crunch time, whether it's Bridges, whether it's Anunoby, or what I would like to see Caris LeVert. Like, I wonder if Mike Brown has the respect in order for him to go out and explain to these guys that they need to do it completely different than they did before. I think if these guys, I think one of the reasons why I give this an A, as long as Mike Brown, to your point, is allowed to install elements of that Kings offense that was so great and so fun to watch, then yeah, like this, this could really work well, especially when considering, I mean, they added an upgrade over Cam Payne and Jordan Clarkson. And then Garrett Yabusele, who's become a knockdown shooter, adds even more frontcourt flexibility. Excellent, excellent job by the Knicks front office. And the reason, and people would say like, oh, you said all these great things about Mike Brown. He's obviously a good coach. He's obviously, um, super accomplished. Why are you so down on the hire? 'Cause to me, if you're in a position that the Knicks are in where like, you can taste the NBA Finals, it's right there for you. To be in this position, I would have liked to see the Knicks actually exercise some of the market power that they possess. There's no salary cap on coaches. Go all out. Whoever it is that is at the top of the profession, bring him to New York, because you are on the precipice of the NBA Finals. They should have gone balls to the wall to get a guy at the top of the profession in there. And that's why I'm more down on the Mike Brown move than everybody else's. Close

New York Knicks Tabbed Landing Spot for Future Hall of Famer

Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The New York Knicks made it all the way to the Eastern Conference Finals this past season, representing their longest playoff run in two-and-a-half decades. However, during their series loss to the Indiana Pacers, it was clear something was missing. The Knicks could definitely afford to add some depth, and given how close they just were to reaching the finals, they may be able to lure some veterans in search of a ring. More news: Houston Rockets' Striking Trade Slammed for Poor Optics That could include future Hall-of-Fame guard Russell Westbrook, who remains available in free agency with training camp creeping closer and closer. Bleacher Report's Andy Bailey envisions New York as a potential destination for Westbrook, noting that the Knicks already expressed interest in Westbrook last month. Head coach of Mike Brown of the New York Knicks speaks to media during his introductory press conference at Knicks Training Facility on July 08, 2025 in Tarrytown, New York. Photo by"Particularly in lineups with lots of shooting from Karl-Anthony Towns, Mikal Bridges and OG Anunoby, Westbrook's ability to get to the rim could be dangerous," Bailey wrote. "Russ himself would obviously benefit from time surrounded by so much shooting, too. It's tough for defenders to cheat off the three-point line when all those options are on the floor, which would certainly widen Russ' driving lanes." Westbrook spent the 2024-25 campaign with the Denver Nuggets, playing in 75 games and making 36 starts. During that time, he averaged 13.3 points, 6.1 assists, 4.9 rebounds and 1.4 steals over 27.9 minutes a night on 44.9/32.3/66.1 shooting splits. It actually represented his most efficient season since 2019-20. More news: Chicago Bulls Urged to Make No-Brainer Trade Involving Star Player Of course, Westbrook is an acquired taste. He is not the dynamic scoring threat he once was, and his tendency to shoot teams out of games could absolutely torpedo a team's championship hopes. But on the other side of the coin, his ability to score in bunches is inherently valuable. That being said, the Knicks kind of already have that in recent signing Jordan Clarkson, who Bailey mentioned in the article. Perhaps Westbrook would have been a better fit in the Big Apple had New York not already signed another high-volume scoring guard.
