Marcus Freeman listed among top 10 college football head coaches
Pro Football Focus has named Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman to its top 10 of college football coaches.
Freeman is listed fifth, behind Georgia's Kirby Smart, Ohio State's Ryan Day, Clemson's Dabo Swinney and Oregon's Dan Lanning.
Freeman is ahead of Steve Sarkisian (Texas), Kalen DeBoer (Alabama), James Franklin (Penn State), former Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly (LSU) and Curt Cignetti (Indiana).
Although Freeman's first two seasons as the head man at Notre Dame were marred with some inexplicable upsets, his third season saw the Fighting Irish get all the way to the national championship game, despite another hard-to-explain loss at home versus Northern Illinois.
Even though the Irish lost to Ohio State in the national title game, getting to the championship and following that up with strong recruiting efforts have helped Freeman raise his -- and his program's -- profile.

'Trey Zuhn is the other': Texas A&M HC Mike Elko provides interesting O-line update
Mike Elko on why starting left tackle Trey Zuhn III has split practice reps at center. On Tuesday afternoon, Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko, alongside OC Collin Klein and DC Jay Bateman, took questions from the media after the program's fifth preseason practice on Monday night, and outside of general progress updates regarding several notable players, Elko revealed potential changes across the Aggies' veteran offensive line. On paper, senior left tackle Trey Zuhn III, who stands at 6'7", is only considered a tackle at the next level by many, but in today's age of position versatility, Elko and O-line coach Adam Cushing are focused getting every offensive lineman on the roster ready for anything that comes there way this season, including injury or poor play that will result in shifting things around. Elko confirmed that Zuhn has been working out at center with Mark Nabou and Koli Faaiu. Again, this does not mean changes are coming before the 2025 season opener vs. UTSA. Still, it does prove that Zuhn is much more versatile than previously thought, which is good news regarding any potential setbacks at center. "We want competition across the offensive line, and I think we're getting it. We have three kids who can play center for us. Mark (Nabou) and Koli (Faaiu) are the two obvious ones. Trey Zuhn is the other." Thanks to Gigem247 beat writer Carter Karels for getting Elko to provide more clarification, he further stated that tackles Dametreous Crownover and veteran Rueben Fatheree could start at both tackle spots, providing more flexibility for the coaching staff to field what they believe is the best offensive line. "We move kids around a lot so that we can always ensure the top five kids are out there." "There is certainly a need to have some flexibility with Trey (Zuhn), and that has been a two-year process." Again, this does not mean that Trey Zuhn won't be the program's starting left tackle once the season begins, but this is just more proof that the coaching staff is wholly focused on fielding the best team possible to help starting quarterback Marcel Reed thrive, and open holes in the running game. Texas football schedule: Every Longhorns opponent ranked in first US LBM Coaches Poll
Four opponents ranked in the preseason US LBM Coaches Poll highlight Texas schedule For the first time in school history, the Texas Longhorns are the preseason No. 1 team in America in the US LBM Coaches Poll. The hype surrounding new starting quarterback Arch Manning and the newly minted top-ranked team continues to swell as the historic season opener with Ohio State draws closer. Texas' schedule should set up very well for a run at the National Title. At least the regular season portion. While UT doesn't have the easiest schedule in the nation, it isn't the toughest either. Texas schedule ranks middle of the pack in the SEC. The Longhorns only play four preseason ranked opponents in 2025. The bad news is, three of the four are on the road. Texas plays at Ohio State, Florida and Georgia. UT gets rival Texas A&M at home in Austin at DKR. As we saw last year, the margin of error to get into the SEC Championship Game is small. But there should be two to three automatic bids that go to SEC teams if needed. Here's a look at the Longhorns ranked opponents: No. 2 Ohio State Buckeyes | Columbus, OH | Aug. 30 This will be the first time in college football history the No. 1 and No. 2 teams in the nation will face off in the opening game of the season. Of course, it was Ohio State, on its way to the national title, that knocked Texas out of the college football playoffs last year in the semifinal at the Cotton Bowl. This year the stakes are smaller but the hype is probably bigger. No. 17 Florida Gators | Gainesville, FL | Oct. 4 Don't overlook this trip to the Swamp the week before the Texas-Oklahoma Red River Rivalry Game in early October. The Swamp is a tough road environment. If the game is at night, it will be tougher than the Noon kickoff at Ohio State. The Gators also have a possible Heisman Trophy Candidate at QB in DJ Lagway. Lagway missed the game last season in Austin due to an injury. No. 4 Georgia Bulldogs | Athens, GA | Nov. 15 Texas lost to the Bulldogs twice last season, once in Austin and once in the SEC Championship Game in Atlanta. The Horns struggled on offense in both games. This will be the last of the three ranked road tests of the year, so Texas should be battle hardened by the mid-November. No. 21 Texas A&M Aggies | Austin, TX | Nov. 28 A year's worth of bragging rights are on the line when the Aggies face the Austin end of the rivalry renewal. Last year, freshly reunited in the SEC, UT and A&M played for the first time in over a decade. The Longhorns came out on top 17-7 in front of a raucous turned quiet Kyle Field crowd. That game ended up being for a spot in the SEC title game. No doubt 2025 will be the same. ESPN's Holly Rowe provides promising Caitlin Clark injury update
While Caitlin Clark missed her seventh straight contest during the Indiana Fever's road date at the Seattle Storm, ESPN reporter Holly Rowe provided an encouraging update on Clark's injury recovery. "Well, Stephanie White did give us a small update on Caitlin that she has started some full-court running, full-speed running the last four or five days. Still not doing full basketball activities, but there has been some progress made recently," Rowe reported. That's significant progress for Clark. Fever coach Stephanie White also provided an update on Clark during her pregame media session. "Yeah, we have updates and her recovery's going well. It's just, I think for us, staying the course, and making sure that we're really diligent about each step that we take and that we don't have setbacks and that we're patient with it. "I know she wants to be out here on the floor and we want her out here on the floor, but making sure that she's ready is the most important thing. I still don't know how far we are. We're going to take it one step at a time, one day at a time and go from there,' White said. Last Sunday, Rowe shared an injury update on the Indiana Fever star and provided a possible window for Clark to return. According to Rowe, Fever coach Stephanie White indicated Clark didn't get enough practice and conditioning time with the team when she made her return from a left groin injury. The Fever intend to be much more patient in this return from a right groin injury. With this injury return, the Fever want more of a ramp-up with more practice and conditioning time. That led Rowe to suggest later in August might make sense as a timeline for Clark's return from this right groin injury. Indiana has a break during the third week of August, between the Fever's Aug. 17 road game against the Connecticut Sun and their Aug. 22 home game against the Minnesota Lynx. In 13 games played, Clark is averaging 16.5 points, 8.8 assists, 5 rebounds and 1.6 steals per game on 36.7% field goal shooting and 27.9% 3-point accuracy.
