Texas football schedule: Every Longhorns opponent ranked in first US LBM Coaches Poll
For the first time in school history, the Texas Longhorns are the preseason No. 1 team in America in the US LBM Coaches Poll. The hype surrounding new starting quarterback Arch Manning and the newly minted top-ranked team continues to swell as the historic season opener with Ohio State draws closer.
Texas' schedule should set up very well for a run at the National Title. At least the regular season portion. While UT doesn't have the easiest schedule in the nation, it isn't the toughest either. Texas schedule ranks middle of the pack in the SEC.
The Longhorns only play four preseason ranked opponents in 2025. The bad news is, three of the four are on the road. Texas plays at Ohio State, Florida and Georgia. UT gets rival Texas A&M at home in Austin at DKR.
As we saw last year, the margin of error to get into the SEC Championship Game is small. But there should be two to three automatic bids that go to SEC teams if needed.
Here's a look at the Longhorns ranked opponents:
No. 2 Ohio State Buckeyes | Columbus, OH | Aug. 30
This will be the first time in college football history the No. 1 and No. 2 teams in the nation will face off in the opening game of the season. Of course, it was Ohio State, on its way to the national title, that knocked Texas out of the college football playoffs last year in the semifinal at the Cotton Bowl. This year the stakes are smaller but the hype is probably bigger.
No. 17 Florida Gators | Gainesville, FL | Oct. 4
Don't overlook this trip to the Swamp the week before the Texas-Oklahoma Red River Rivalry Game in early October. The Swamp is a tough road environment. If the game is at night, it will be tougher than the Noon kickoff at Ohio State. The Gators also have a possible Heisman Trophy Candidate at QB in DJ Lagway. Lagway missed the game last season in Austin due to an injury.
No. 4 Georgia Bulldogs | Athens, GA | Nov. 15
Texas lost to the Bulldogs twice last season, once in Austin and once in the SEC Championship Game in Atlanta. The Horns struggled on offense in both games. This will be the last of the three ranked road tests of the year, so Texas should be battle hardened by the mid-November.
No. 21 Texas A&M Aggies | Austin, TX | Nov. 28
A year's worth of bragging rights are on the line when the Aggies face the Austin end of the rivalry renewal. Last year, freshly reunited in the SEC, UT and A&M played for the first time in over a decade. The Longhorns came out on top 17-7 in front of a raucous turned quiet Kyle Field crowd. That game ended up being for a spot in the SEC title game. No doubt 2025 will be the same.

Athletics pitcher José Leclerc undergoes successful shoulder surgery
Athletics reliever José Leclerc, who was shut down for the season July 25, underwent successful surgery on his right shoulder, the club said Wednesday. Dr. Keith Meister performed the procedure in Arlington, Texas. The A's said Leclerc, on the injured list since April 23, will remain in Dallas to go through rehabilitation. Leclerc, 31, appeared in 10 games for the A's this season after signing a one-year, $10 million contract in January. He posted a 6.00 ERA with eight strikeouts over nine innings. Leclerc has a career record of 12-21 and 41 saves with a 3.34 ERA in 369 1/3 innings in 360 games with 481 strikeouts since breaking in with Texas in 2016. 2025 SEC Title Odds: 'There's Not A Real Standout Team'
Can you believe it: The Southeastern Conference has four teams among the top 10 in College Football Playoff championship odds. Then, two more teams are knocking on the door of the top 10, and there might be a sleeper or two in the mix, as well. So it's no surprise that, for SEC championship odds, bookmakers expect quite a battle to see who takes home the league crown and presumably a first-round bye in the CFP. "The SEC feels more competitive than in past years. It used to be just Georgia and Alabama," Caesars Sports head of football trading Joey Feazel said. "There's not a real standout team, so maybe we will get some variance this year." Feazel serves up his insights into how bettors are playing SEC championship odds. Texas' Time? Texas has been in the SEC all of one season, but it was a pretty good one. The Longhorns reached the SEC title game, losing to Georgia 22-19, though still earning an at-large berth into the College Football Playoff. From there, Texas knocked off Clemson and Arizona State to reach the CFP semifinals, where the Longhorns' season ended in a 28-14 setback to eventual national champion Ohio State. For this season, Caesars opened Texas as the +280 favorite to win the SEC, and the Longhorns are now +260. That said, Feazel remains a little wary. "The Texas Longhorns are still new to this conference, but right now, they're controlling most of the money," Feazel said. Quarterback Quinn Ewers moved on to the NFL, which fully swings open the door for Arch Manning to start. That has early bettors quite enthusiastic. "They're banking on Arch Manning. He's the Heisman Trophy favorite. But is he gonna be that guy this year?" Feazel said. "He does have a high ceiling, but we don't know how low his floor is." Manning got two starts last year, when Ewers was out with an oblique injury. Those starts came against two overmatched teams: Louisiana-Monroe, in a 51-3 blowout, and Mississippi State, in a 35-13 victory. Close Behind Georgia is the +375 second choice in SEC championship odds. As noted above, the Bulldogs won the conference title last year, getting a bye to the CFP quarterfinals. That's where the season ended, in a 23-10 loss to Notre Dame. Georgia has played in the last four SEC title games and won back-to-back national crowns in 2021-22 and 2022-23. With that success, though, comes a higher calling for many players: the NFL. "Every year, Georgia loses a lot to the draft," Feazel said. "There are question marks around this team, whether it will have its dominant form." Alabama is the +400 third choice to win the SEC. But as the post-Saban era hits Year 2, bettors aren't quite as intrigued by the Crimson Tide, who didn't reach the SEC final or the CFP last season. "Alabama still has its betting faithful, but there's less action than they were getting in the Saban years," Feazel said. LSU is expected to be in the conference championship mix, as well, and in fact has seen its odds notably improve in the offseason. Caesars opened the Tigers at +1100, and they're now +650. "We have a big Louisiana betting base. That's the case every year," Feazel said, adding there's plenty of belief in QB Garrett Nussmeier. "He will be one of the top quarterbacks drafted next year. The LSU faithful are coming in." Major Mover Oklahoma is a +2500 long shot in odds to win the SEC, but that's significantly better than where the Sooners opened months ago, at +6000. Feazel and oddsmakers at other books feel Brent Venables' squad could be an SEC dark horse. "Oklahoma has one of the hardest schedules, but is getting really good action. More action than you'd expect on Oklahoma," Feazel said. "The Sooners are not the dominant offensive team we've seen in past years. They're trying to get that back. "They seem to be a value play in the SEC, driving a lot of money." IndyCar officials and Pato O'Ward shocked by ICE-related 'Speedway Slammer' post
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — IndyCar driver Pato O'Ward and series officials were shocked by a social media post from the Department of Homeland Security that touts plans for an immigration detention center in Indiana dubbed 'Speedway Slammer," and includes a car with the same number as the only Mexican driver in the series. 'It caught a lot of people off guard. Definitely caught me off guard,' O'Ward said Wednesday. 'I was just a little bit shocked at the coincidences of that and, you know, of what it means. ... I don't think it made a lot of people proud, to say the least.' The post Tuesday included an image of a IndyCar-style vehicle with the No. 5 that had 'ICE' imposed on it multiple times similar to the display of a sponsor. It appeared to be a computer-created image, with the car on a track and a prison-like building in the background. Indiana is home to Indianapolis Motor Speedway, and is where the IndyCar Series is based. 'We were unaware of plans to incorporate our imagery as part of yesterday's announcement,' IndyCar said in a statement Wednesday. "Consistent with our approach to public policy and political issues, we are communicating our preference that our IP not be utilized moving forward in relation to this matter.' O'Ward said he didn't see the post until a friend texted him about it. 'I haven't really read into it too much because I don't think I want to,' he said. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem in a separate post used 'SpeedwaySlammer' when announcing the new partnership with the state of Indiana to expand detention space by 1,000 beds. O'Ward, who is second in points in IndyCar this season, was in Texas to promote next year's inaugural Grand Prix of Arlington. That race on March 15 will be on a 2.7-mile layout that goes around the home stadiums of the NFL's Dallas Cowboys and MLB's Texas Rangers.
