The Group B clash between Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and Atletico Madrid on Monday at the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 is going to be the most high-profile game in the first round at the historic Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena. Notably, the venue hosted the 1994 World Cup final where Brazil beat Italy 3–2 on penalties.
While PSG are coming after lifting their maiden UEFA Champions League title, the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 is Atletico Madrid's last shot at silverware this season after missing out on La Liga, Copa del Rey and Champions League.
Venue: Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena, California
PSG: Donnarumma; Hakimi, Marquinhos, Pacho, Mendes; Neves, Vitinha, Ruiz; Doue, Ramos, Kvaratskhelia.
Atletico Madrid: Oblak; Molina, Le Normand, Gimenez, Galan; Simeone, De Paul, Koke, Gallagher; Griezmann, Alvarez.
The PSG vs Atletico Madrid clash in the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 will be streamed live on DAZN's YouTube channel. DAZN is FIFA's global broadcast partner for Club World Cup 2025 in the United States. There is no update on the tournament's official broadcaster in India.

I realised quickly that I will not have much influence on the team: Gary Kirsten on his stint as Pakistan coach

World Cup-winning coach Gary Kirsten has opened up about his ill-fated stint as head coach of the Pakistan white-ball team, where he submitted his resignation just six months into the job. Kirsten took over the reins of Pakistan's white-ball coaching in April 2024, with Jason Gillespie taking over the Test team. Both coaches were removed from the national selection panel after Pakistan lost the first Test at home against England. Kirsten handed his resignation a day after teams for ODI and T20I tours of Australia and New Zealand were picked last year. 'It was a tumultuous few months. I realised quite quickly I wasn't going to have much of an influence. Once I was taken off selection and asked to take a team and not be able to shape the team, it became very difficult as a coach then to have any sort of positive influence on the group,' Kirsten said on the Wisden Cricket Patreon podcast. Kirsten, however, suggested that he would be open to returning as coach if there was no 'influential noise' and if the circumstances were right. 'If I got invited back to Pakistan tomorrow, I would go, but I would want to go for the players, and I would want to go under the right circumstances,' he said. When that's not happening and when there's a lot of noise from the outside that's very influential noise, it's very difficult for leaders within the team to walk a journey that you feel like you need to walk in order to take this team to where it needs to go. 'I'm too old now to be dealing with other agendas, I just want to coach a cricket team, work with the players – I love the Pakistan players, they're great guys. I had a very short period of time with them, and I feel for them. More than any other team in the world, they feel the pressure of performance massively, when they lose it's hectic for them and they feel that. Former Pakistan cricketer Aaqib Javed took over as interim head coach after Kisten stepped down, before he was replaced in the white-ball formats by Mike Hesson.

Soccer-Italy appoint Gattuso as manager to succeed Spalletti

-Former AC Milan and Napoli manager Gennaro Gattuso has been appointed Italy national team coach, the Italian football federation said on Sunday. Gattuso replaces Luciano Spalletti, who was sacked last week following a heavy defeat by Norway in a World Cup qualifier. The former midfielder will be formally introduced as coach on Thursday at Rome's Parco dei Principi Hotel. "Gattuso is a symbol of Italian football - the blue jersey is like a second skin for him. His motivations, his professionalism and his experience will be fundamental to best face the upcoming commitments of the National Team," FIGC President Gabriele Gravina said in a statement. "Aware of the importance of the objective we want to achieve, I thank him for the availability and total dedication with which he has received this challenge, sharing the FIGC project for the overall development of our football, in which the blue jersey plays a strategic central role." Spalletti departed after a stint of under two years, overseeing his final match, a 2-0 victory against Moldova, just a day after revealing he had been dismissed following Italy's 3-0 defeat by Norway in their opening World Cup qualifier. Gattuso, who guided Napoli a Coppa Italia title in 2020, is tasked with getting Italy to next year's World Cup, after they missed out on the last two editions of the tournament. A FIGC source told Reuters the 47-year-old has been given a one-year contract, including the World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico. Gattuso made 73 appearances for Italy and was a member of the 2006 World Cup-winning squad. He recently left Croatian club Hajduk Split by mutual consent, after a third-placed finish in the country's top flight. FIGC member Gianluigi Buffon had discussed Gattuso's appointment on Saturday. Veteran Italian coach Claudio Ranieri was the FIGC's top candidate for the role, but the 73-year-old declined the offer, choosing instead to concentrate on his position as senior advisor at AS Roma. Italy, third in World Cup qualifying Group I, will host Estonia in Bergamo on September 5 before taking on Israel in Hungary three days later. Gattuso began his coaching career as player-coach at Swiss club Sion in 2013 where he finished his playing days after 13 seasons with Milan but was fired after winning two of his 10 league games in charge. Over a 12-year coaching journey, Gattuso has led nine clubs, including Milan, Spanish side Valencia, and a brief stint at Ligue 1's Olympique de Marseille.

Gattuso named Italy coach as the Azzurri aim to avoid missing out on a third straight World Cup

FLORENCE, Italy — Former hard-tackling midfielder Gennaro Gattuso was named as Italy coach on Sunday, tasked with reviving the country's already-flagging World Cup qualifying hopes. Gattuso replaces Luciano Spalletti, who was fired last week after Italy lost its opening qualifier 3-0 at Norway to spark fears that the four-time champion will fail to qualify for a third straight World Cup. Gattuso lifted one of those World Cups as a player, in 2006. "Gattuso is a symbol of Italian soccer, the blue shirt is like a second skin for him," Italian soccer federation president Gabriele Gravina said. "His motivation, his professionalism and his experience will be fundamental to best face the national team's next matches. 'Aware of the importance of the objective we want to achieve, I thank him for the willingness and total dedication with which he accepted this challenge.' Claudio Ranieri was the Italian soccer federation's top choice to replace Spalletti but he turned down the offer. Gattuso's last coaching job was at Hajduk Split but he left the Croatian club by mutual consent at the start of the month after just one season in charge. The 47-year-old had previously coached AC Milan, Napoli, Valencia and Marseille, among others. As a player, Gattuso also won two league titles and two Champions League trophies with Milan, where he made 468 appearances and scored 11 goals. His only goal in 73 appearances for Italy was a fierce 25-meter strike against England in a 1-0 win in November 2000. Gattuso's only trophy as a coach was the Italian Cup with Napoli in 2010. Italy is already nine points behind Norway in its World Cup qualifying group, albeit having played two matches fewer than the group leader. The Azzurri followed up its dismal opening loss with a 2-0 win over minnow Moldova last Monday in what was Spalletti's final match in charge. He had revealed that he was being fired the previous day. Gattuso's first match as Italy coach will be at home to Estonia on Sept. 5. Israel is also in five-team Group I. Italy hosts Norway in the final round on Nov. 16. Only the group winner advances directly to the 2026 tournament co-hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico. The runner-up enters playoff brackets to be played next March. That was the stage where Italy was eliminated by Sweden and North Macedonia and ruled out of the 2018 and 2022 World Cups, respectively. soccer: /hub/soccer
