Prince Harry 'so disappointed' by Diana's sisters' blunt take on Meghan Markle

Daily Mirrora day ago

Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex, was "discomforted" with Princess Diana's two sisters after they had first met Meghan Markle, who would go onto become his wife
Prince Harry"was so disappointed" when he introduced Meghan Markle to Princess Diana's two sisters, it has emerged.
The Duke of Sussex had hoped Lady Sarah McCorquodale and Lady Jane Fellowes would similarities to his mother, who died when Harry was just 12. However, although Harry believed Diana would have been "over the moon" about his relationship with Meghan, he was upset with her sisters' reaction.

They reportedly did not see the same character traits in the two women and Harry, 40, suffered a further blow as Lady McCorquodale and Lady Fellowes "thought Meghan would not fit in with the Royal Family." Regardless, Harry married his partner soon after in 2018 and has gone onto have two children with the former actress.

The insights have come about in the book Revenge: Meghan, Harry, and the War Between the Windsors, written by royal biographer Tom Bower. He penned: "Harry assumed that Diana's family and friends would see a similarity between Diana and his fiancée. Both, he said, shared the same problems. He was so disappointed."

The biographer continued: "No one agreed that his vulnerable mother had anything in common with his girlfriend. More discomforting for him, they thought Meghan would not fit in with the Royal Family."
But the Duke of Sussex remained defiant and, in 2022, he discussed Meghan's similarities to Diana in his Netflix docuseries. According to the Express, the prince said: "So much of what Meghan is and how she is, is so similar to my mum. She has the same compassion, the same empathy, the same confidence. She has this warmth about her."
Meghan has a had a tough week, making the headlines for the wrong reasons as she lost her the chance to appear on the front cover of fashion bible Vogue. It is alleged the 43-year-old mum compiled a long list of outrageous demands, which caused the magazine to pull the plug.
Elsewhere, journalist and commentator Esther Krakue hit out at the mum of two, harshly suggesting that Meghan should lean into her status as a 'hot' woman who married a prince, rather than trying to frame herself as a thought leader with a 'particularly niche view of the world."
Speaking on The Sun's Royal Exclusive show, Krakue commented on Meghan's recent appearance on The Jamie Kern Lima Show podcast, in which the Duchess of Sussex admitted she wouldn't know what to put on a resume. Krakue said bluntly: "She's also never had to write a resume, let's be honest."
Krakue went on to critique Meghan's attempts to champion complex social issues. She said: "The lens through which she views the world is very peculiar."

A Fresh Take: Executive Chef Wesli Jacobs joins Cape Grace

If Netflix's The Bear offers any insight into the high-stakes world of hospitality, it's that a head chef sets the tone for the entire kitchen. At Cape Town's Cape Grace Hotel - recognised as one of the city's best by Time Out - a new chapter begins under Executive Chef Wesli Jacobs, who brings a fresh vision to its five-star dining experience. We were introduced to Chef Jacob's culinary creativity during a lunch hosted in Heirloom's private dining room alongside celebrated former World's Best sommelier, Philippe Faure-Brac. Jacobs rose to the challenge, plating a menu set to stand beside wines open to critique by Faure-Brac (no pressure). Faure-Brac, whose attendance was a masterstroke - aligned perfectly with the hosting of the ASI General Assembly in Cape Town for the first time in its 55-year run, a landmark for the African continent as a whole. The collaboration of this Fairmont property, under Accor's ownership, has led to significant refurbishments and enhancements at the Cape Grace, including the introduction of Heirloom Restaurant - first, under the leadership of acclaimed chef Gregory Czarnecki in 2023. Chef Asher Abramowitz later took over the reins in 2024, bringing added focus to South Africa's rich culinary heritage. Now, Jacobs and his team, including sommelier Alvezo Abrahams, showcased exactly what guests can expect in the months ahead. Think elegant dishes rooted in South African traditions of Cape Malay cooking with touches of finesse. Fine examples include the Seafood Biryani (paired with a Cape Point Reserve Sauvignon Blanc) and the Springbok Potjie (paired with Beyerskloof Reserve). Other splashes of contemporary flair included a Fynbos Sorbet palette cleanser and Baked Alaska, "not done Ouma's way" - best described as a smile-inducing dish, even before tasting it. Jacobs, formerly of Four Seasons Westcliff, where he led the award-winning pass at Flames, tells us that while he might be looking to break the mould in some instances, he and his team are pushing to put it back together in a totally unique way. Cooking from the heart and memory as odes to aunties or grannies are no longer platitudes when you consider the selection Jacobs shared. And it's not just Heirloom that are under his care - with Bascule Bar and the Library Lounge as part of his culinary canvas. The lunch menu certainly has set sizzling aspirations for the season ahead. The Cape Grace is inviting guests to join them for an adventurous pairing of chardonnays at the end of June, featuring Atlas Swift - just ahead of their new winter menu launch in July. Advanced booking is advised.

Prince Harry to be 'even angrier' if latest move backfires warns expert

Prince Harry has been relatively quiet in recent weeks as wife Meghan Markle continues to bask in the limelight launching her As Ever business - but that could all be about to change. Prince Harry could potentially ignite a fresh Royal controversy with his prospective career shift, warns an expert. While Meghan has been enjoying the spotlight with the launch of her As Ever venture, Harry seems to have taken a more subdued role as the couple appear to be exploring separate career trajectories. However, rumours suggest that this could soon change as Harry seeks a 'new purpose'. Reports indicate that Harry might be launching his own commercial enterprise in the coming months, alongside focusing on his Invictus Games Foundation. ‌ Details about the potential venture remain under wraps, and figuring it out will be one of the first tasks for the Sussexes' newly assembled advisory team. But Jennie Bond, former BBC Royal correspondent, has warned that if Harry chooses to pursue a profit-making path, it could be fraught with challenges. ‌ Speaking to the Mirror, she said: "Personally, I think this commercial route opens him up to all sorts of accusations of trading on his royal status which would make him an even angrier young man than at present. I think Harry is still trying to figure out where he goes from here. By normal standards, he's a very rich man, but life in Montecito doesn't come cheap, especially with all the security costs he deems necessary. "So is he content for his wife to be the breadwinner while he concentrates on the children and charity work? There's nothing wrong with that but he might feel he needs to pursue commercial ventures too.", reports the Mirror. ‌ Prince Harry has been in the spotlight recently, focusing on his philanthropic efforts. This month, he was seen championing the Diana Award at an event in Las Vegas. Just this week, he made a surprise appearance at a travel conference in Shanghai, where he delivered a speech on sustainable travel through his organisation Travalyst. ‌ Jennie commented further: "There's nothing wrong with being a stay-at-home dad and using his influence to help charities around the world. He's brilliant at interacting with people and at just being Harry. He should perhaps stick to what he's born to, trained for and truly good at." Harry's journey to China was his inaugural visit and coincided with King Charles's arrival in Canada for a significant tour. ‌ However, Jennie noted: "Fortunately it seems not to have overshadowed Charles and Camilla's trip to Canada. In fact, it seems to have made very little news at all. If the idea was to garner as much publicity for the cause as possible, it would seem to have fallen rather short. "There was no advance information about it and not much of a splash when he was there. But he is clearly employed by Travalyst to make keynote speeches like this, and I'm sure he made a good job of it. The timing of the conference would have been coincidental to the King's trip to Canada, certainly not deliberate. "However, the irony of flying across the world to promote sustainable, environmentally friendly travel is hard to ignore. Surely a video speech would have been more ethical?". "The same criticism could be lobbed at William flying around the world to host the Earthshot Awards but sometimes it just raises the profile in a way nothing else could. I'm not sure that Harry's presence did the same."

The dramatic incident on Adam Street near Waterloo Bridge on Thursday saw the target eventually flee in a Range Rover as passersby stood open-mouthed. 9 The motorbike thugs surrounded a man as he left the Adelphi building Credit: Supplied 9 He then makes a getaway in a waiting Range Rover Credit: Supplied 9 His driver can be seen thumping one rider with a bat Credit: Supplied However, the 'victim' was actually actor Theo James - and his getaway driver ex-football hardman Vinnie Jones, on set of the second series of The Gentlemen. The footage, shared with The Sun, was filmed from an office building across the street by a big fan of the Guy Ritchie-produced Netflix series. She told us: 'I was visiting my friend in his office - it was about half nine or 10. There were a couple sections of the street barricaded off and suddenly a film crew appeared. 'There were a couple of us watching at the window and I started filming. 'I recognised it was Theo James straight away. I was like 'this is exciting - oh my God!'' In the footage, the director can be heard shouting 'action' before James, 40 - who plays lead character Eddie Halstead - emerges from the Adelphi building with three other actors. Suddenly, half a dozen thugs on motorbikes arrive from both directions as James dashes towards a waiting Range Rover and driver Vinnie Jones, who plays Geoff Seacombe. The ex-Leeds United, Chelsea and Wimbledon midfielder, 60, then attacks one rider with a bat, before the car speeds off around the corner. Further footage shows the crew focusing in on Jones thumping the thug with the bat, causing him to fall backwards off the bike. Brit acting legend admits he wants to play James Bond saying 'the world's gone crazy' if Amazon casts a US star for 007 And more video shot from the ground sees one of the riders doing a wheelie in front of James. The witness, 26 - who did not wish to be named - went on to tell The Sun: 'It was all very quick, but it was cool to watch. 'You could hear some bangs and motorbikes revving - and it grabbed everyone's attention. 'My friend's seen a few things being filmed before around there. He said 'they're definitely filming something', then I saw the mic at the side of the road, then I saw Theo James.' She added: 'I watched the first season and loved it - I love Theo James and Vinnie Jones, they're really funny. 9 Theo James stars in Netflix gangster series The Gentlemen Credit: AP 9 James and co-star Vinnie Jones (right) on the show Credit: Christopher Rafael/Netflix 9 Jones was previously a professional footballer before becoming a Hollywood actor Credit: Getty 'I read that Maya Jama's gonna be in the new series too, which should be good.' The Gentlemen is a spin-off of the Ritchie-directed 2019 film of the same name, which starred Charlie Hunnam, Matthew McConaughey, Hugh Grant and Colin Farrell. The TV show, which also features Skins and Pirates of the Caribbean actress Kaya Scodelario, follows James' Eddie after he inherits his family's estate only to discover that it's home to an enormous weed empire, dragging him into the criminal underworld. James - who also appeared in The Inbetweeners Movie - is currently among those leading the race to become the next James Bond. According to Coral, fellow Brit Aaron Taylor-Johnson, 34, is top of the betting, however, James this month overtook former favourite Henry Cavill, 42, to take second place. 9 James, who returns for season two, is among the stars being tipped to play James Bond Credit: AP 9 Jones with Joely Richardson during season one Credit: Netflix
